Learning cyber trust using a triadic functioning analysis: a qualitative approach

The issue of cyber trust has been scattered in several different fields, including computer science, information science and some social sciences. Although social informatics has been a subject of systematic analytical and critical research for more than three decades, previous research has rarely noted the importance of social informatics on cyber trust. Therefore, it is essential to establish a research framework that applies in cyber trust from a perspective of social informatics so that cyber trust may be achieved by different professionals and researchers. This study presents the factors under which cyber trust thrives from a perspective of social informatics. Social informatics research pertains to e-commerce from a perspective of both social and technical changes that shed some light on cyber trust for business professionals and researchers.     

Big data for cyber physical systems in industry 4.0: a survey

ABSTRACT

With the technology development in cyber physical systems and big data, there are huge potential to apply them to achieve personalization and improve resource efficiency in Industry 4.0. As Industry 4.0 is the relatively new concept originated from an advanced manufacturing vision supported by the German government in 2011, there are only several existing surveys on either cyber physical systems or big data in Industry 4.0. In addition, there are much less surveys related to the intersection between cyber physical systems and big data in Industry 4.0. However, cyber physical systems are closely related to big data in nature. For example, cyber physical systems will continuously generate a large amount of data which requires the big data techniques to process and help to improve system scalability, security, and efficiency. Therefore, we conduct this survey to bring more attention to this critical intersection and highlight the future research direction to achieve the fully autonomy in Industry 4.0.     

Security in the cyber supply chain: Is it achievable in a complex,interconnected world?

The Cold War, with its symmetry and certainties that shaped the way we make sense of the world, is over. We now live in a time when the unimaginably complex and inextricably interconnected systems of the cyber domain make nations, societies, and institutions highly vulnerable to disruption. A deep-rooted sense of denial prevents many of us from acknowledging just how vulnerable the cyber supply chain really is. We must act, or risk catastrophe—but any actions we might take must be rooted in the reality of the world as it is, rather than in the world we once knew.

Research letter: Issues of cyber supply chain security in Korea

Cyber supply chain security is important for many businesses these days. In this paper, we investigate cyber supply chain (CSC) security issues in four Korea-based global companies (Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motors, LG Electronics, and POSCO) with effective CSC security. No significant technological differences are evident between these companies and other global companies. Although most managers at all levels agree that security is important, security at Korea-based global companies tends to be the responsibility of non-executive managers. The well-established security policies in these companies are not always adequately enforced. Security in these Korean companies depends upon their relationships with the IT companies who develop and maintain the CSC. A balance between hierarchical integration and strategic outsourcing seems to be a unique advantage of Korean companies.

Social Ecological Economics: Understanding the Past to See the Future

The attempt to provide insight into the interactions between the economy and the environment has been an on‐going struggle for many decades. The rise of Ecological Economics can be seen as a positive step towards integrating social and natural science understanding by a movement that aims to go beyond the confines of mainstream economics towards a progressive political economy of the environment. However, this vision has not been shared by all those who have associated themselves with Ecological Economics and there has been conflict. An historical analysis is presented that shows the role of mainstream theory in delimiting the field of environmental research. The argument is put forward that rather than employing a purely mechanistic objective empirical methodology there is a need for an integrating interdisciplinarity heterodox economic approach. In order to distinguish this approach—from the more mainstream multidisciplinary linking of unreconstituted ecological and economic models—the name Social Ecological Economics is put forward as expressing the essential socio‐economic character of the needed work ahead.
