Im/Ex in September, 2010: Export Continued to Surge

On October 13, 2010, General Administration of Customs of the People＇s Republic of China （GAC） released the profile of China＇s import and export in September and the first nine months of this year. China＇s foreign trade in the first nine months totaled US$2.15 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 37.9 percent, according to the GAC. Trade surplus for the first nine months of the year totaled US$120.6 billion.

February 8 witnessed the construction of 2010 World Expo＇s China Pavilion completed after two years＇ work. The pavilion, in the shape of an oriental crown, showcases the spirit of traditional Chinese culture. 1.1 The slowing of the growth in total energy consumption
In 2008. Beijing＇s total energy consumption reached 63.437 million tons of standard coal, an increase of 586.6 thousand tons compared with the previous year. The increasing range was 1%, dropping 5.45% compared with the previous year, as shown in Figure 1.

According to the announcement released by the National Bureau of Statistics on July 12th,China's annual summer grain output in 2010fell for the first time in 7 years to123.10 million tons,a drop of 0.3%,or 0.39 million tons less than the previous year.

Estimating a Local Food Waste Baseline

ABSTRACT

This article estimates the amounts of food that is discarded, diverted, and landfilled in Minnesota by comparing and applying approaches and statistics from selected national, regional, and local studies. Our preferred estimates suggest 2.1 million tons of food is discarded in Minnesota, of which 60% is diverted through recovery and recycling efforts. The remaining 834 thousand tons are landfilled. This landfilled amount, considered as “food waste,” is smaller than the 1.3 million tons calculated using the ReFED (2016) methods, but its estimated distribution across the food supply chain is similar. Residential losses account for the largest proportion of food waste landfilled (43%). The processing and manufacturing stage discards the largest proportion of food (36%), but generates the smallest amount landfilled because of a high diversion factor. The range of estimates obtained from various methods highlights the complexities in choosing appropriate assumptions, factors, and datasets when calculating food waste baseline amounts.
