Learning Through Interactions: Improving Project Management Through Communities of Practice

Communities of practice are a possible mechanism for improving knowledge sharing among project managers, both within and between organizations. Based on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, we theorize a model of participation intensity in communities of practice by project managers and explore the use of Web 2.0 technologies to increase this participation. Using structural equation modeling, we test the research model and find that the factors of reputation, enjoyment, and management support impact the participation intensity of project managers in communities of practice. However, we do not find support for the impact of Web 2.0 technologies on participation intensity. This study provides evidence that participation in communities of practice can result in individual benefits for the project manager, as well as in more far‐reaching organizational benefits.

Understanding Leadership Through Leadership Understandings

In 1992, Margaret Wheatley urged leadership scholars to search for “new ways of understanding” (Wheatley, 1992/2006, p. 160). The search, with some exception, has stalled. Leadership studies remains mired in a philosophical understanding grounded in positivism. Within the current paper, an exploration of how an understanding is informed by its core philosophical assumptions is presented. An alternative framing for understandings is explored through the reconstruction of these same core philosophical assumptions. The benefits of dwelling within the alternative framing are sketched.

交通能耗定量化研究尝试:城市微循环交通能耗模拟

减少城市交通能耗是建设低碳机动化的核心目标之一.城市交通能耗和城市密度、交通模式等多因素相关.研究在假设短期内城市密度、交通模式恒定的前提下,提出通过提高城市微循环交通运行效率,减少车辆延误时间,减少特定城市地块的交通能耗的尝试.以杭州市西湖区某地块为例,采用vissim仿真模型模拟地块内微循环交通系统运行,通过调整地块内部的支路间距和单行交通,减少地块内车辆延误时间,从而达到减少该城市地块交通能耗的目的.     

风冷节能装置对风冷式机房空调节能作用的研究——风冷节能装置的应用

本文提出了一种新的风冷式机房空调节能设备,该设备通过提高风冷式机房空调的性能来降低机房空调的能耗,并通过理论计算证明风冷节能装置可以有效地提高风冷机房空调的EER,节能效果明显。     

Leader Development Through Reading and Reflection

The current investigation serves to assess the usefulness, lessons learned, and leader development of eight male students in a senior level university leadership class based on reading and reflection. Thematic analysis of participants’ responses revealed three major themes to explain students’ lessons learned in leader development through journaling: (a) Relationship Development, (b) Technical Skill Development, and (c) Awareness Development. Support exists for the effectiveness of reading and reflection as a pedagogical tool for leader lesson development with a college‐age sample.
