China imports 50% more autos in first 7 months China's auto import grew faster in the first seven months of this year, as world auto giants turned to the Chinese market after the U.S. economic slump and rocketing oil prices drove sales down on U.S. and European markets, the General Administration of Customs said on August 24. Domestic demand for large-engine vehicles also strengthened as many people bought in advance of a consumption tax hike that is due to take effective on September 1.

I LOVE CHINA,I LOVE INDONESIA

In July 1940, JACKSON Sze Man Leung （here-in-after called Jackson Leung） was born in an oversea Chinese family in West-Java, Indonesia. During 18 to 24 April 1955, the world famous Asian-African Conference was held in Bandung, Indonesia. At that time, Jackson Leung, a 15-year-old Indonesian born Chinese and a girl Xie Cai Yue were chosen to greet the Chinese delegation on behalf of the local Indonesian Chinese community. This historic moment of presenting bouquet to Premier Zhou had made a deep, lifelong impact in Jackson Leung＇s life. Even today, he said, ＂It was the softest part of my heart that was touched at that moment, the part of my heart that belongs to China and belongs to Indonesia.＂

Corporations as Intentional Systems

The theory of corporations as moral persons was first advanced by Peter French some fifteen years ago. French persuasively argued that corporations, as persons, have moral responsibility in pretty much the same way that most human beings are said to have moral responsibility. One of the crucial features of French's argument has been his reliance on the idea that corporations are "intentional systems," that they have beliefs and desires just as humans do. But this feature of French's thought has been left largely undeveloped. Applying some philosophical ideas of Daniel Dennett, this article provides support for French's contention that corporations are intentional actors by analyzing what is meant by the term "intentional system," and showing why corporations should be thought of as, in many important ways, indistinguishable from humans.     

Competitivity of the Automobile Industry: The French Way

The French auto industry is now one of the most successful in the world and has developed markets in other European countries and further afield. The intriguing background to this has been that the French manufacturers, Renault and PSA, have developed strategies based largely upon homegrown employment cultures. While the companies have spent considerable time in Japan, the specificity of French employment practices and employee relations have intervened to block or significantly moderate outside practices. Perhaps the most important lesson is that any organizational system cannot be separated from its social, historical and economic context, in which the interests of different actors impact upon the process of innovation.     

Peter French, Corporate Ethics and The Wizard of Oz

For more than two decades, Peter French has been arguing in books, articles and symposia that corporations are genuine actors in the moral universe. Like adult human beings, they can and should take moral responsibility for their actions and be held accountable by the other actors in this universe. I have always argued with my students that the position is both metaphysically incorrect and practically harmful. Now (1995) French has redeveloped his position through 380 pages in Corporate Ethics, probably the most challenging and original Business Ethics textbook yet to appear. It is a work of intellectual sophistication with real world applications. Using the metaphor invaders throughout the book, French argues not only that corporations are moral agents, but also that their moral agency has made the business world of the late twentieth century and of the coming century different from anything of preceding epochs. It is, in his argument, an agency of great potential danger and of great potential benefit, one in terms of which we can address every ethical problem of business. In the essay, I explore Corporate Ethics both on the metaphysical and the practical level.     

《法国商法典》2000年修订的差异化特征及其再发展述评

与1807年《法国商法典》相比,2000年《法国商法典》立足法国商事活动的发展变化而不断丰富实践,充分汲取两百余年的实践经验,已经形成一套体例完备、原则清晰、运作规范的法律体系,成为欧洲民商立法的典范。立法者在该法的概念界定、适应场域等方面几经思考沉淀,在立法原则方面,该部法典也是历经商主体主义到商行为主义再到折中主义的不断演进。但是由于时代更迭的现实需要,20年来,《法国商法典》的再发展与最新修订与时俱进、效果明显。本文尝试通过对比1807年和2000年《法国商法典》,评述2000年《法国商法典》的特点,并对2000年以来的再发展特征加以描述性解释,介绍其最新成果,以期为中国民商事立法提供有益的“法国经验”。

China pledges to sustained growth
Wen Jiabao, Premier of the People＇s Republic of China, opened the World Economic Forum＇s Annual Meeting of the New Champions, laying out an ambitious agenda to reinvigorate China＇s economy while meeting social goals. He explained the nation＇s stimulus plan and called for increased cooperation to meet collective challenges as the world recovers from the recent financial turmoil. ＂Over the past year, the world economy has experienced the most severe challenge since the Great Depression,＂ said Wen. ＂Thanks to the concerted efforts and active measures of the entire world community, the world economy has started to recover.＂     

Forecasting Internet Penetration in China: The Effect on E-Commerce

ABSTRACT

It can be seen that the Internet penetration rate in China has undergone a dramatic increase in the past three years. Beginning in June 2002 China became the third largest user of the Internet in the world following the U.S. and Japan. The Internet penetration rate in China has increased 61.0 percent from June 2001. This study provides a language comparison of Chinese versus non-English speaking Internet users by comparing Chinese Internet usage to: Spanish, Japanese, German, French, Scandinavian, Italian, Dutch, Korean and Portuguese. The four forecasting models to predict future Internet penetration in this study are: the Linear Trend Model, the Quadratic Trend Model, the Exponential Trend Model, and the S-Curve Trend Model. The study provides various forecasts of Internet penetration in China including dial-up and leased line Internet users. The forecasted results indicate that the Chinese speaking Internet user population will be the largest population by the end of year 2005 among all of the selected ten non-English speaking language Internet users' populations. The forecast of nearly 16 million leased line users reveals the necessity involved with choosing the correct leased line connection in China. These forecasts should be useful with respect to conducting electronic commerce with the China Internet market. The design of multi-language Web sites in order to conduct international Internet commerce is also analyzed.     

中国与世界经济波动的相关性研究

本文针对中国与世界经济波动的相互作用与影响这一日益重要的问题进行了一系列的计量检验。检验结果表明，自改革开放以来，中国经济的持续性比世界经济稍强。但中国经济的波动幅度较大；中国经济与世界经济的相关性经历了由强到弱，再逐步转强的过程，但总体上相关性程度较低；中圆经济波动滞后于世界经济波动，表明中国经济对世界经济存在较强的依赖性；在10％显著性水平下二者互为格兰杰因果关系，但世界经济对中国经济的影响更大；中国经济与世界经济、中国经济与中国对外贸易、中国经济与FDI流入之间有较强的相互冲击效应；中国对外贸易对世界经济波动的影响力较大，而世界经济对中国对外贸易的影响力却有限。
