语言的表达途径是声音,目的是表现人们相互之间的情感动作和行为动作等。语言可分为主体语言(也叫母语)和客体语言(也叫外语)。人类掌握母语的过程即我们所说的习得,特点是在自然环境下便可无意识就获得,而外语的掌握则需在特定的学习环境下有意识的学习。虽然习得母语与外语学习有本质的区别,但在根本却有着共通之点——人是语言的学习者。如何把语言习得规律运用到外语教学中,从而调动学习者的主观能动性是一个值得探索的问题。  相似文献

Learning and teaching of English language in foreign contexts is usually associated with possible economic gains that it may bring. However, there are other and possibly more immediate implications of such instruction, especially on the way young people interact in schools where English is the medium of instruction. Using Bourdieu’s framework of capitals, the current study aims to explore how English language is perceived and used among young people from Turkish language backgrounds in a private school in the northern part of Cyprus where English is the medium of both instruction and communication. It also investigates whether students’ attitudes towards this language have any impact on the building of communities and tolerance when it comes to cultural diversity in and outside the classroom. Analysis of the data, which was collected through in-class ethnographic observations and informal chats with young people, showed that students who possessed a higher amount of linguistic capital in English were also perceived as popular and academically superior by all of the participants in this particular school. While linguistic abilities in English played a significant part in determining the access rights to certain peer groups, students whose first language was Turkish tended to capitalize on this skill to support each other to achieve academic success. Thus, language appeared to be a dividing factor rather than a bridge, which affected the school’s culture of tolerance negatively.

Business process re-engineering (BPR) was a leading form of organizational restructuring from the late 1980s until the late 1990s. This paper seeks to contextualize its development and account for its particularly bellicose language by reflecting on its historical antecedents in the west and its contemporary competitors in the east. We suggest that one way of reading BPR is as a form of ‘inverse colonization’ in which US managerial discourse both assimilated and revolted against the growing domination of Japanese thinking and practice. We conclude with some speculative comments on related causes of the rise of violent managerial rhetoric.  相似文献

Hayek famously claimed that he would prefer a “liberal” dictator to “democratic government lacking in liberalism.” While Hayek's views of the Pinochet regime have generated much controversy, surprisingly little has been written about Hayek's defense of transitional dictatorship. Making use of previously un‐translated foreign language archival material, this paper helps shed light on Hayek's views of authoritarianism, totalitarianism, transitional dictatorship, and the Pinochet regime as well as helping to separate Hayekian ‘fact’ from Hayekian ‘fiction’.  相似文献

This study aimed at investigating the perceptions of teachers and intermediate level students on the use of creative activities integrated into an EFL curriculum at Foreign Languages English Preparatory School (FLEPS). The study has qualitative nature that data was gathered through teachers’ daily diary and students’ semi-structured interviews. The study included 20 intermediate level students studying at the FLEPS. As a result, it was worth stating that the approach to the English language through creative activities or tasks was more effective in developing students’ critical thinking skills and boosted their self-esteem in foreign language learning than the traditional methods being applied at the FLEPS. The research study provides useful findings such as increasing teachers’ positive attitudes and students’ self-esteem and made related implications for the institutional development for further research.

This paper provides a commentary on the article in this Special Issue on “The meaning of ‘talent’ in the world of work”, welcoming its analysis of the definition, meaning and conceptualisation of talent and seeking to develop further its research recommendations. In particular, it argues that the relationships between talent and gifts should be further explored, proposes that exploring its use in other languages than English would be useful, and suggests comparing its identification and development in management and other fields, especially sport and the arts. It also proposes multidisciplinary research and research into talent and talent management in various contexts, including sectorial, cultural, institutional and structural contexts. Finally, it proposes that factors which influence how talent is identified need further analysis, and perspectives from resource-based theories, ethical theories, development economics, and social capital theories should be utilised.  相似文献

Abstract

This essay is intended as a self-reflective, auto-critique of the ‘social accounting community’. The essay is directed at the academic community of accountants concerned with social accounting. This `community' is predominantly concerned with English language accounting journals and is preoccupied with the social and environmental practices of the larger private sector organisations. The essay is motivated by a concern over our responsibilities as academics in a world in crisis and a concern that social accounting is losing its energy and revolutionary zeal. This community's social accounting endeavours have taken place in almost complete ignorance of the activities and developments in non accounting communities and, in particular, developments in the public and third sectors. The essay reaches out to the public and third sector work and literature as an illustration of one of the ways in which ‘our’ social accounting can try to prevent itself from becoming moribund.  相似文献

This qualitative study investigates and reveals the difficulties experienced by a dyslexic 7 year-old child learning English as a foreign language in a state elementary school. Aiming to advance the understanding of challenges dyslexics experience in English as a foreign language classes, a qualitative case study was designed. Thematic analysis of the interview data revealed that a dyslexic child struggles with linguistic difficulties, such as pronunciation, spelling, reading and writing. In addition, short and long term memory are impaired, which causes problems concerning word finding, memorization and naming objects. Contrary to the findings of most research, the participant of this study was found to be highly motivated towards learning English and that she had positive affectivity due to her personality. This study is expected to contribute to the teaching of English language to elementary school children with dyslexia and serve as a means to increase service quality of foreign language classes offered for dyslexic children.
