Abstract

This paper proposes a new generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator for spatial panel models with spatial moving average errors combined with a spatially autoregressive dependent variable. Monte Carlo results are given suggesting that the GMM estimator is consistent. The estimator is applied to English real estate price data.  相似文献

Marshall-Olkin bivariate semi-Pareto distribution (MO-BSP) and Marshall-Olkin bivariate Pareto distribution (MO-BP) are introduced and studied. AR(1) and AR(k) time series models are developed with minification structure having MO-BSP stationary marginal distribution. Various characterizations are investigated.Acknowledgements. In this paper, the problem of estimating the precision matrix of a multivariate Pearson type II-model is considered. A new class of estimators is proposed. Moreover, the risk functions of the usual and the proposed estimators are explicitly derived. It is shown that the proposed estimator dominates the MLE and the unbiased estimator, under the quadratic loss function. A simulation study is carried out and confirms these results. Improved estimator of tr (Σ −1) is also obtained.  相似文献

The Heckman Correction for Sample Selection and Its Critique   总被引:17,自引:0,他引:17
This paper gives a short overview of Monte Carlo studies on the usefulness of Heckman's (1976, 1979) two-step estimator for estimating selection models. Such models occur frequently in empirical work, especially in microeconometrics when estimating wage equations or consumer expenditures.
It is shown that exploratory work to check for collinearity problems is strongly recommended before deciding on which estimator to apply. In the absence of collinearity problems, the full-information maximum likelihood estimator is preferable to the limited-information two-step method of Heckman, although the latter also gives reasonable results. If, however, collinearity problems prevail, subsample OLS (or the Two-Part Model) is the most robust amongst the simple-to-calculate estimators.  相似文献

Summary For multiparameter exponential models a short and direct proof is given that the maximum likelihood estimator is a maximum probability estimator with respect to a certain sequence of convex and bounded sets inR (k) that are symmetric about the origin; asymptotically these sets are allowed to be unbounded.  相似文献

In this paper we study the weak convergence of the generally normalized extremes (extremes under nonlinear monotone normalization) of random number of independent (nonidentically distributed) random variables. When the random sample size is assumed to converge in probability and the interrelation between the basic variables and their random size is not restricted, the limit forms as well as the sufficient conditions of convergence are derived. Moreover, when the random sample size is assumed to converge weakly and independent of the basic variables, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the convergence are derived.Acknowledgment.

This article deals with the prediction problem in linear regression where the measurements are obtained using k different devices or collected from k different independent sources. For the case of k=2, a Graybill-Deal type combined estimtor for the regression parameters is shown to dominate the individual least squares estimators under the covariance criterion. Two predictors ŷ c and ŷ p are proposed. ŷ c is based on a combined estimator of the regression coefficient vector, and ŷ p is obtained by combining the individual predictors from different models. Prediction mean square errors of both predictors are derived. It is shown that the predictor ŷ p is better than the individual predictors for k≥2 and the predictor ŷ c is better than the individual predictors for k=2. Numerical comparison between ŷ c and ŷ p shows that the former is superior to the latter for the case k=2.  相似文献

Summary In this paper it is investigated whether robust estimation procedures for the parameters of a regression model are also applicable when the observations are generated by the errors-in-variables model. Specifically, attention is paid to bounded-influence estimators, i.e. estimators that are constructed in such a way that the influence of a single observation on the outcome of the estimator is bounded. Both the classical errors-in-variables model and models with contaminated observational errors are considered. The authors are indebted to a referee for his valuable comments on an earlier version of this paper.  相似文献

A one-sided testing problem based on an i.i.d. sample of observations is considered. The usual one-sided sequential probability ratio test would be based on a random walk derived from these observations. Here we propose a sequential test where the random walk is replaced by Lindleys random walk which starts anew at zero as soon as it becomes negative. We derive the asymptotics of the expected sample size and the error probabilities of this sequential test. We discuss the advantages of this test for certain nonsymmetric situations.Acknowledgement. A multivariate measurement error model AXB is considered. The errors in [A,B] are rowwise independent, but within each row the errors may be correlated. Some of the columns are observed without errors, and in addition the error covariance matrices may differ from row to row. The total covariance structure of the errors is supposed to be known up to a scalar factor. The fully weighted total least squares estimator of X is studied, which in the case of normal errors coincides with the maximum likelihood estimator. We give mild conditions for weak and strong consistency of the estimator, when the number of rows in A increases. The results generalize the conditions of Gallo given for a univariate homoscedastic model (where B is a vector), and extend the conditions of Gleser given for the multivariate homoscedastic model. We derive the objective function for the estimator and propose an iteratively reweighted numerical procedure.Acknowledgements.A. We investigate the computational complexity of several decision problems in a simple strategic game of network formation. We find that deciding if a player has a strategy that guarantees him a certain payoff against a given strategy profile of the other players is an NP-complete problem. Deciding if there exists a strategy profile that guarantees a certain aggregate payoff is also NP-complete. Deciding if there is a Nash equilibrium in pure strategies which guarantees a certain payoff to each player is NP-hard. The problem of deciding if a given strategy profile is a Nash equilibrium is investigated as well. We would like to thank both referees for valuable corrections and suggestions and one referee in particular for a very detailed and beneficial critique. We thank Colin de la Higuera for fruitful discussions. Support by the French Ministry for Youth, Education and Research, through project SCSHS-2004-04 is gratefully acknowledged.  相似文献

The coefficient matrix of a cointegrated first-order autoregression is estimated by reduced rank regression (RRR), depending on the larger canonical correlations and vectors of the first difference of the observed series and the lagged variables. In a suitable coordinate system the components of the least-squares (LS) estimator associated with the lagged nonstationary variables are of order 1/T, where T is the sample size, and are asymptotically functionals of a Brownian motion process; the components associated with the lagged stationary variables are of the order T−1/2 and are asymptotically normal. The components of the RRR estimator associated with the stationary part are asymptotically the same as for the LS estimator. Some components of the RRR estimator associated with nonstationary regressors have zero error to order 1/T and the other components have a more concentrated distribution than the corresponding components of the LS estimator.  相似文献

MIDZUNO'S sampling procedure is considered where the first (n – 1) draws are carried out with simple random sampling without replacement and the nth draw with varying probabilities. It is shown that for this scheme, the best estimator in the HORVITZ–THOMPSON (1952) Tt–class of linear estimators exists and rejects the last draw. When MURTHY'S technique of unordering of an ordered estimator is employed, the rejected draw is restored and the unordered estimator is obtained. Surprisingly, this unordered estimator is the same as the unordered best estimator in the T1–class, derived for IKEDA–SEN'S sampling procedure.  相似文献

The paper develops a general Bayesian framework for robust linear static panel data models usingε-contamination. A two-step approach is employed to derive the conditional type-II maximum likelihood (ML-II) posterior distribution of the coefficients and individual effects. The ML-II posterior means are weighted averages of the Bayes estimator under a base prior and the data-dependent empirical Bayes estimator. Two-stage and three stage hierarchy estimators are developed and their finite sample performance is investigated through a series of Monte Carlo experiments. These include standard random effects as well as Mundlak-type, Chamberlain-type and Hausman–Taylor-type models. The simulation results underscore the relatively good performance of the three-stage hierarchy estimator. Within a single theoretical framework, our Bayesian approach encompasses a variety of specifications while conventional methods require separate estimators for each case.  相似文献

Estimating dynamic panel data discrete choice models with fixed effects   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper considers the estimation of dynamic binary choice panel data models with fixed effects. It is shown that the modified maximum likelihood estimator (MMLE) used in this paper reduces the order of the bias in the maximum likelihood estimator from O(T-1) to O(T-2), without increasing the asymptotic variance. No orthogonal reparametrization is needed. Monte Carlo simulations are used to evaluate its performance in finite samples where T is not large. In probit and logit models containing lags of the endogenous variable and exogenous variables, the estimator is found to have a small bias in a panel with eight periods. A distinctive advantage of the MMLE is its general applicability. Estimation and relevance of different policy parameters of interest in this kind of models are also addressed.  相似文献

Semiparametric estimation of a bivariate fractionally cointegrated system is considered. We propose a two-step procedure that accommodates both (asymptotically) stationary (δ<1/2)(δ<1/2) and nonstationary (δ≥1/2)(δ1/2) stochastic trend and/or equilibrium error. A tapered version of the local Whittle estimator of Robinson (2008) is used as the first-stage estimator, and the second-stage estimator employs the exact local Whittle approach of Shimotsu and Phillips (2005). The consistency and asymptotic distribution of the two-step estimator are derived. The estimator of the memory parameters has the same Gaussian asymptotic distribution in both the stationary and the nonstationary case. The convergence rate and the asymptotic distribution of the estimator of the cointegrating vector are affected by the difference between the memory parameters. Further, the estimator has a Gaussian asymptotic distribution when the difference between the memory parameters is less than 1/2.  相似文献

This paper considers estimation and inference in linear panel regression models with lagged dependent variables and/or other weakly exogenous regressors when N (the cross‐section dimension) is large relative to T (the time series dimension). It allows for fixed and time effects (FE‐TE) and derives a general formula for the bias of the FE‐TE estimator which generalizes the well‐known Nickell bias formula derived for the pure autoregressive dynamic panel data models. It shows that in the presence of weakly exogenous regressors inference based on the FE‐TE estimator will result in size distortions unless N/T is sufficiently small. To deal with the bias and size distortion of the FE‐TE estimator the use of a half‐panel jackknife FE‐TE estimator is considered and its asymptotic distribution is derived. It is shown that the bias of the half‐panel jackknife FE‐TE estimator is of order T?2, and for valid inference it is only required that N/T3→0, as N,T jointly. Extension to unbalanced panel data models is also provided. The theoretical results are illustrated with Monte Carlo evidence. It is shown that the FE‐TE estimator can suffer from large size distortions when N>T, with the half‐panel jackknife FE‐TE estimator showing little size distortions. The use of half‐panel jackknife FE‐TE estimator is illustrated with two empirical applications from the literature.  相似文献
