Formal and informal management training programs for women in Canada: Who seems to be doing a good job?

The increasing complexity of Canadian businesses in a changing marketplace indicates that women as well as men managers will have to be well trained to be able to position themselves in this new environment with a certain degree of success and personal happiness. As management educators, we have to accept an important share in this responsibility. This paper examines some of the factors that should be considered by those who want to develop management training programs for the future women managers or entrepreneurs.Dina Lavoie is associate professor of management and organization development at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales at Montreal since 1977. Her main area of interest is entrepreneurship. She has authored the first studies on women entrepreneurs in Canada and has developed some of the first management training programs for women managers in Quebec, New Brunswick and several Asean Countries where she has resided and worked for several years. She is secretary-treasurer general of the new National Entrepreneurship Development Institute of Canada (NEDI) and is advisor to the federal and several provincial governments on issues related to women entrepreneurs and women managers. She is member of the board of trustees of several organisations including NEDI and the Asian Institute of Technology (Bangkok). We find her listed in Who's Who of Canadian Women, The World Who's Who of Women, the International Directory of Distinguished Leadership etc.

The Effects of Locus of Control on Word‐of‐mouth Communication

Word‐of‐mouth can be a powerful tool for and against marketing a brand. The effect of personality can have a significant effect on an individual's word‐of‐mouth behaviour. One of the most popular personality constructs is the locus of control. This research studied the influence of the locus of control on consumer word‐of‐mouth communications. The results showed that individuals who scored high on their internal locus of control were more likely to engage in word‐of‐mouth communication with their out‐groups. In addition, individuals who scored high on their external locus of control were more likely to engage in word‐of‐mouth communication with their in‐group. Out‐groups are defined as people with a weaker ties relationship, while in‐groups are defined as people with a stronger ties relationship (i.e. close friends and family). These findings would help marketers in directing their promotional programmes more effectively.

Cloisonné-One of the Eight-Uniqueness of Beijing

The main procedures for manufacturing cloisonné conclude 7 steps As the ancient capital, Beijing is the place where skillful crafts men meet and communicate in historical times. Its royal and folk artistic styles are very strong and have the typical charac- teristics of Beijing Works. Among them, the Eight-Uniqueness of Beijing, which includes cloisonne, jade carving, ivory carving, carved lacquerware, gold lacquer inlay, decorative pattern inlay, imperial blanket and imperial embroidery, is famous as early as the early 19th century, such as the large ivory carving "Cheng-Kung Railroad", silk barbola "Upper River during Qing Ming Festival" ,which are displaying at the United Nation, and the emblem of 2008 Olympics, they are all the artworks of the craftsmen in Beijing.
