In this paper, upon using the known expressions for the Best Linear Unbiased Estimators (BLUEs) of the location and scale parameters of the Laplace distribution based on a progressively Type-II right censored sample, we derive the exact moment generating function (MGF) of the linear combination of standard Laplace order statistics. By using this MGF, we obtain the exact density function of the linear combination. This density function is then utilized to develop exact marginal confidence intervals (CIs) for the location and scale parameters through some pivotal quantities. Next, we derive the exact density of the BLUEs-based quantile estimator and use it to develop exact CIs for the population quantile. A brief mention is made about the reliability and cumulative hazard functions and as to how exact CIs can be constructed for these functions based on BLUEs. A Monte Carlo simulation study is then carried out to evaluate the performance of the developed inferential results. Finally, an example is presented to illustrate the point and interval estimation methods developed here.  相似文献

The paper discusses the asymptotic validity of posterior inference of pseudo‐Bayesian quantile regression methods with complete or censored data when an asymmetric Laplace likelihood is used. The asymmetric Laplace likelihood has a special place in the Bayesian quantile regression framework because the usual quantile regression estimator can be derived as the maximum likelihood estimator under such a model, and this working likelihood enables highly efficient Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms for posterior sampling. However, it seems to be under‐recognised that the stationary distribution for the resulting posterior does not provide valid posterior inference directly. We demonstrate that a simple adjustment to the covariance matrix of the posterior chain leads to asymptotically valid posterior inference. Our simulation results confirm that the posterior inference, when appropriately adjusted, is an attractive alternative to other asymptotic approximations in quantile regression, especially in the presence of censored data.  相似文献

We consider the Case 1 interval censoring approach for right‐censored survival data. An important feature of the model is that right‐censored event times are not observed exactly, but at some inspection times. The model covers as particular cases right‐censored data, current status data, and life table survival data with a single inspection time. We discuss the nonparametric estimation approach and consider three nonparametric estimators for the survival function of failure time: maximum likelihood, pseudolikelihood, and the naïve estimator. We establish strong consistency of the estimators with the L1 rate of convergence. Simulation results confirm consistency of the estimators.  相似文献

We evaluate the Fisher information (FI) contained in a collection of order statistics and their concomitants from a bivariate random sample. Special attention is given to Type II censored samples. We present a general decomposition result and recurrence relations that are useful in finding the FI in all types of censored samples. We also obtain some asymptotic results for the FI. For the bivariate normal parent, we obtain explicit and asymptotic expressions for the elements of the FI matrix for Type II censored samples. We discuss implications of our findings on inference on the bivariate normal parameters, especially on the correlation. We consider kernel smoothed Grenander‐type estimators for a monotone hazard rate and a monotone density in the presence of randomly right censored data. We show that they converge at rate n2/5 and that the limit distribution at a fixed point is Gaussian with explicitly given mean and variance. It is well known that standard kernel smoothing leads to inconsistency problems at the boundary points. It turns out that, also by using a boundary correction, we can only establish uniform consistency on intervals that stay away from the end point of the support (although we can go arbitrarily close to the right boundary).  相似文献

Based on two independent samples from Weinman multivariate exponential distributions with unknown scale parameters, uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimators ofP(X<Y) are obtained for both, unknown and known common location parameter. The samples are permitted to be Type-II censored with possibly different numbers of observations. Since sampling from two-parameter exponential distributions is contained in the model as a particular case, known results for complete and censored samples are generalized. In the case of an unknown common location parameter with a certain restriction of the model, the UMVUE is shown to have a Gauss hypergeometric distribution, which is further examined. Moreover, explicit expressions for the variances of the estimators are derived and used to calculate the relative efficiency.  相似文献

In this paper, the maximum likelihood predictor (MLP) of the kth ordered observation, t k, in a sample of size n from a two-parameter exponential distribution as well as the predictive maximum likelihood estimators (PMLE's) of the location and scale parameters, θ and β, based on the observed values t r, …, t s (1≤rs<kn), are obtained in closed forms, contrary to the belief they cannot be so expressed. When θ is known, however, the PMLE of β and MLP of t k do not admit explicit expressions. It is shown here that they exist and are unique; sharp lower and upper bounds are also provided. The derived predictors and estimators are reasonable and also have good asymptotic properties. As applications, the total duration time in a life test and the failure time of a k-out-of-n system may be predicted. Finally, an illustrative example is included. Received: August 1999  相似文献

Estimators of parameters in semi-parametric left truncated and right censored regression models are proposed. In contrast to the majority of existing estimators, the proposed estimators do not require the error term of the regression model to have a symmetric distribution. In addition the estimators use asymmetric “trimming” of observations. Consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimators are shown. Finite sample properties are considered in a small simulation study. For the left truncated case, an empirical application illustrates the usefulness of the estimator.  相似文献

Summary This paper develops mathematical and computational methodology for fitting, by the method of maximum likelihood (ML), the Burr Type XII distribution to multiply (or progressively) censored life test data. Mathematical expressions are given for approximating the asymptotic variances and covariances of the ML estimates (MLEs) of the parameters of the Burr Type XII distribution. A rigorous mathematical analysis is undertaken to investigate the existence and uniqueness of the MLEs for arbitrary sample data. The methodology of this paper is applied to progressively censored sample data arising in a life test experiment.  相似文献

We give a new proof of the identifiably of the MPH model. This proof is constructive: it is a recipe for constructing the triple—regression function, base-line hazard, and distribution of the individual effect—from the observed cumulative distribution functions.
We then prove that the triples do not depend continuously on the observed cumulative distribution functions. Uniformly consistent estimators do not exist.
Finally we show that the MPH model is even identifiable from two-sided censored observations. This proof is constructive, too.  相似文献

The problem of estimating a smooth distribution functionF at a pointτ based on randomly right censored data is treated under certain smoothness conditions onF. The asymptotic performance of a certain class of kernel estimators is compared to that of the Kaplan-Meier estimator ofF(τ). It is shown that the relative deficiency of the Kaplan-Meier estimator ofF(τ) with respect to the appropriately chosen kernel type estimator tends to infinity as the sample sizen increases to infinity. Separate confidence intervals or approximate confidence intervals for the parameters of Pareto distribution were discussed by some authors. The paper deals with some new indices for ordinal data that arise from sample surveys. Their aim is to measure the degree of concentration to the “positive” or “negative” answers in a given question. The properties of these indices are examined. Moreover, methods for constructing confidence limits for the indices are discussed and their performance is evaluated through an extensive simulation study. Finally, the values of the indices defined and their confidence intervals are calculated for an example with real data. Summary We consider in this paper the transient behaviour of the queuing system in which (i) the input, following a Poisson distribution, is in batches of variable numbers; (ii) queue discipline is ‘first come first served’, it being assumed that the batches are pre-ordered for service purposes; and (iii) service time distribution is hyper-exponential withn branches. The Laplace transform of the system size distribution is determined by applying the method of generating functions, introduced in queuing theory byBailey [1]. However, assuming steady state conditions to obtain, the problem is completely solved and it is shown that by suitably defining the traffic intensity factor,ϱ, the value,p 0, of the probability of no delay, remains the same in this case of batch arrivals also as in the case of single arrivals. The Laplace transform of the waiting time distribution is also calculated in steady state case from which the mean waiting time may be calculated. In the context of life-testing, progressive censoring has been studied extensively. But, all the results have been developed under the key assumption that the units under test are independently distributed. In this paper, we consider progressively Type-II censored order statistics (PCOS-II) arising from dependent units that are jointly distributed according to an Archimedean copula. Density and distribution functions of dependent general PCOS-II (GPCOS-II) are derived under this set-up. These results include those in Kamps and Cramer (Statistics 35:269–280, 2001) as special cases. Some bounds for the mean of PCOS-II from dependent data are then established. Finally, through an example, a special case of PCOS-II from $N$ dependent components is illustrated.  相似文献

In this paper, a structural analysis of hybrid censoring models is presented. This new modularization approach to hybrid censoring models enables a convenient derivation of distributional results. For instance, it allows to derive the exact distribution of the MLEs under an exponential assumption for very complex hybrid scenarios. In order to illustrate the benefit of this idea, we apply it to four new unified progressive hybrid censoring schemes. They are extensions of already proposed unified Type-I/II/III/IV hybrid censoring schemes to progressively Type-II censored data. The resulting analysis shows that the modularization approach provides a powerful, efficient, and elegant tool to study even more complex hybrid censoring models.  相似文献

In the researching of products' reliability, the result of life testing is used as the basis for the evaluation and improvement of reliability. During life testing, however, the future observation in an ordered sample is often expected to be predicted so as to show how long a sample of units might run until all fail in life testing. Therefore, we propose five new pivotal quantities to obtain prediction intervals of future order statistics based on right type II censored samples from the Pareto distribution with known shape parameter, then compares the lengths of the prediction intervals when using the pivotal quantity of Ouyang and Wu (1994) based on best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) of scale parameter, and these five pivotal quantities. An advantage of these five pivotal quantities is that these are easier to calculate than the pivotal quantity of Ouyang and Wu (1994) based on BLUE of scale parameter, since they need to compute the tables of coefficients of BLUE of scale parameter.  相似文献
