Changes in China＇s Trade Policy？

＂We will steadily develop foreign trade. The main issues are to exploit new markets, adjust the trade structure and promote trade balance＂, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao delivered a government work report at the opening meeting of the annual full session of the National People＇s Congress （NPC）, China＇s top legislature, which started in Beijing on March 5, declaring a new development path of Chinese foreign trade in 2010. As one of the biggest trading powers in the world, this will bring great influence on world trade situation and the trade relationship between China and its main trade fellows such as the USA and the EU.     

Entrepreneurial Orientation and Performance of Chinese High-Tech Firms： The Mediating Role of Organizational Learning and Moderating Role of Firm Life Cycle

The evidence about how entrepreneurial orientation （EO） affects firms＇ performance remains inconclusive. This study joins the research by incorporating organizational learning （OL） as a micro-macro link and by extending empirical work to the largely underexplored context of Chinese high-tech industries. Results from a survey of 252 Chinese high-tech firms demonstrate： （1） entrepreneurial orientation is positively related to firm performance; （2） organizational learning is also positively related to firm performance; （3） organizational learning partly mediates the positive impact of entrepreneurial orientation on firm performance; and （4） high-tech companies in the start-up and growth stage are likely to demonstrate stronger linkages in the EO-OL-performance relationship than in mature stage, which shows that the EO-OL-performance relationship is moderated by firms＇ life cycle.     

Chile：Close Tie between China and Latin America

Chile was the first country in South America to establish a diplomatic relationship with China more than 38 years ago.Since then,with the bilateral free trade agreement in place,Chile has become China＇s second-largest trading partner in Latin America,and China is currently Chile＇s largest trading partner in the world.In April of 2008,China and Chile signed the Supplementary Agreement on Trade in Services of the Free Trade Agreement between the Government of the People＇s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Chile in Sanya, Hainan province.This was a historical milestone marking the longstanding relationship between China and Chile.To learn more about this bilateral relationship,China＇s Foreign Trade invited Mr.Mario I.Artaza,Director Commercial Office Trade Representative at the Beijing Embassy of Chile in China,to give us his point of view on the current business and economic environment that exists between these two countries.

The PRC has attained great economic achievements over the past 60 years since its founding in 1949, and it is on the way to becoming one of the biggest economies in the world. China steel association opposes Rio-BHP iron ore JV

A global iron ore oversupply, lower spot prices, and huge stockpiles in China＇s domestic iron ore market will improve the odds of Chinese steel mills in securing more cuts in its iron ore price negotiation with overseas suppliers, Du Wei, an Umetal analyst told Xinhua on June 4, China Iron and Steel Association （CISA） refused on May31 to accept the iron ore price cut between 33 percent and 44 percent reached between Rio Tinto and Japan＇s Nippon Steel Corp, and insisted on a price cut of more than 40 percent in the annual contracts of iron ore.

Canada Finance Minster： Welcome China＇s Investment in Canada

To forward the relationship between China and Canada in financial and trade sectors and strengthen the cooperation in avoiding the worse impact of international financial crisis, Canadian financial high-level leaders involving Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney, Canada＇s Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty, Federal Superintendent of Financial Institutions Julie Dickson, as well as five major banks and the two biggest insurance companies in Canada, who are looking to strengthen and expand business ties with China, visited China from August 8 to August 14, 2009. Also they send warm invitations to China enterprises to invest and to be listed in Canada. This visit is a preparation for Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper＇s coming visit to China in November.     

A Case Study on Executive Leadership and Knowledge Transfer in TMT： From the Perspective of Managerial Rotation in Private Firms

This paper explores the mechanism between leadership and knowledge transfer in a top management team （TMT） via a case study of ZOJE Group, a private listed company in China. Three recently rotated executives with different leadership styles from the parent or subsidiary companies are chosen and studied. Findings show that for the visionary leadership executive, his vision incentive has a limited effect on knowledge transfer, but organization culture, especially the decentralization management culture, can greatly enhance the knowledge transfer process. For the paternalistic leadership executive, authoritarianism helps him manage the management team in disarray; while benevolence and morality improve the knowledge transfer standard. Lastly, for the servant leadership executive, his leading by example and altruism behaviors contribute to a higher level of knowledge transfer among TMT.     

Latest Developments in China＇s Banking Reform, Opening-up and Supervision

China Banking Regulatory Commission （CBRC） was authorized by law to regulate and supervise all the banking institutions in China and their business activities. CBRC plays an active role in China＇s banking reform. According to a press release by the State Council on December 5, under the leadership of the central government and the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of ＂Three Represents, ＂the CBRC continues to practise the scientific concept of development, deepen the banking reform, further the opening up and enhance banking supervision, so as to ensure a safe and sound development of China＇s banking sector.     

A CoPs Approach to Knowledge Governance： A University-Industry Case Study in China

This research explores knowledge sharing behaviors, aiming at developing good knowledge governance （KG） mechanisms and promoting university-industry ring phenomenon in China. Empirical evidence concerning the operation of KG, collected through interviews and relevant documentary materials, is analyzed through the lens of communities of practices （CoPs） approach to situated learning. Our case study lends support to the conceptualizing process of KG, in which task design, quality control, innovative capitalists, and relational intellectual property serve as KG mechanisms for promoting university-industry collaboration. In addition, our analysis highlights the significance of associates＇ roles in KG for facilitating knowledge sharing behaviors. This research provides empirical evidence for understanding KG in university-industry collaboration.     

The Effect of Board Characteristics on a Firm＇s Strategic Change

The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between the characteristics of the board of directors and strategic change of a firm in the Chinese context. In this study, strategic change is defined as strategic deviation relative to industry norms and strategic variation relative to historical experiences. The size, independence and leadership structure of the board of directors are defined as the board characteristics. We then propose hypotheses on the effects of board characteristics on a firm＇s strategic change. This study takes strategic resource allocation profile as measure to calculate strategic deviation and strategic variation, and then empirically tests and verifies the hypotheses using data from Chinese publicly listed companies in the information technology industry from the year 2006 to 2010. We find that the size, independence and leadership structure of the board of directors significantly affect both strategic deviation and strategic variation. Therefore, we conclude that board characteristic affects a firm＇s strategic change. The conclusion of the study indicates that moderate reductions in the size of the board, increasing the proportion of independent directors and separating the roles of chairman and chief executive officer can facilitate promoting the process of strategic change for a firm in a dynamic environment. Through this study we re-examine the role and significance of the board of directors in strategic decision-making for a firm, and provide useful suggestions on how to form a board that can meet the needs for strategic change for a firm in a dynamic business environment.

Conditions for Conclusion of Open-ended Employment Contract

The Law of the People＇s Republic of China on Employment Contracts （short for Law on Employment Contracts） carried out in 2008 classified the employment eantracts into three types： fixed-term employment contract, open-ended employment contract and employment contract to expire upon completion of a certain job. Generally speaking, in open-ended employment contract, the employer and employee shall not make an agreement on the time limit of employment contract and this shall be very important for the stabilization of the working relationship and the protection of the employees.
