Efficient paired choice designs with fewer choice pairs

For paired choice experiments, two new construction methods of designs are proposed for the estimation of the main effects. In many cases, these designs require about 30–50% fewer choice pairs than the existing designs and at the same time have reasonably high D-efficiencies for the estimation of the main effects. Furthermore, as against the existing efficient designs, our designs have higher D-efficiencies for the same number of choice pairs.     

Nonregular designs from Hadamard matrices and their estimation capacity

Deng and Tang (1999) proposed the generalized minimum aberration (GMA) criterion to assess fractional factorial designs, and a design with GMA is often regarded as the best. However, there exist situations where some other designs may suit practical needs better. In this article, we propose an algorithm to sequentially examine designs obtained from Hadamard matrices under estimation capacity (EC) and provide designs with maximum or high EC for various combinations of run-size and number-of-factors. Optimal design and directional leverage with applications in differential equation models

We consider the problem of estimating input parameters for a differential equation model, given experimental observations of the output. As time and cost limit both the number and quality of observations, the design is critical. A generalized notion of leverage is derived and, with this, we define directional leverage. Effective designs are argued to be those that sample in regions of high directional leverage. We present an algorithm for finding optimal designs and then establish relationships to existing design optimality criteria. Numerical examples demonstrating the performance of the algorithm are presented.

A catalogue of three-level regular fractional factorial designs

A common problem that experimenters face is the choice of fractional factorial designs. Minimum aberration designs are commonly used in practice. There are situations in which other designs meet practical needs better. A catalogue of designs would help experimenters choose the best design. Based on coding theory, new methods are proposed to classify and rank fractional factorial designs efficiently. We have completely enumerated all 27 and 81-run designs, 243-run designs of resolution IV or higher, and 729-run designs of resolution V or higher. A collection of useful fractional factorial designs with 27, 81, 243 and 729 runs is given. This extends the work of Ch93, who gave a collection of fractional factorial designs with 16, 27, 32 and 64 runs.

Optimal and robust designs for trigonometric regression models

This article presents discussions on the optimal and robust designs for trigonometric regression models under different optimality criteria. First, we investigate the classical Q-optimal designs for estimating the response function in a full trigonometric regression model with a given order. The equivalencies of Q-, A-, and G-optimal designs for trigonometric regression in general are also articulated. Second, we study minimax designs and their implementation in the case of trigonometric approximation under Q-, A-, and D-optimality. Then, We indicate the existence of the symmetric designs that are D-optimal minimax designs for general trigonometric regression models, and prove the existence of the symmetric designs that are Q- or A-optimal minimax designs for two particular trigonometric regression models under certain conditions.
