China＇s BYD aims for country＇s top slot before 2015

China＇s battery and electric carmaker BYD Co. is aiming to become the nation＇s largest passenger car manufacturer ahead of its targeted 2015 schedule, China Daily reported on September 16. The newspaper said, citing a senior company executive, that BYD was also making efforts to fulfill its dream of overtaking Toyota as the world＇s No. 1 carmaker, through annual sales of over 10 million cars by 2025, via a series of ＂prudent＂ moves it made recently.     

China＇s annual trademark applications rank world＇s 1st for 7th straight year

In 2008, nearly 700,000 trademark applications were submitted in China, marking the seventh consecutive year that the country has ranked first in the world for number of applications. This is according to information from the World Intellectual Property Organization （WIPO） Inter-Regional High-Level Forum on Intellectual Property recently held in Beijing.

A global iron ore oversupply, lower spot prices, and huge stockpiles in China＇s domestic iron ore market will improve the odds of Chinese steel mills in securing more cuts in its iron ore price negotiation with overseas suppliers, Du Wei, an Umetal analyst told Xinhua on June 4, China Iron and Steel Association （CISA） refused on May31 to accept the iron ore price cut between 33 percent and 44 percent reached between Rio Tinto and Japan＇s Nippon Steel Corp, and insisted on a price cut of more than 40 percent in the annual contracts of iron ore.
