We investigate the information content in Chinese warrant prices based on an option pricing framework that incorporates short‐selling and margin‐trading constraints in the underlying stock market. We show that Chinese warrant prices can be explained under this pricing framework. On the basis of this new model, we develop a price deviation measure to quantify stock market investors' unobserved demand for short selling or margin trading due to market constraints. We find that warrant‐price deviations are driven by underlying stock valuation to a great extent. Chinese warrant prices, save for the time around expiration dates, are better characterized as derivatives than as pure bubbles.  相似文献

We propose a stable nonparametric algorithm for the calibration of “top‐down” pricing models for portfolio credit derivatives: given a set of observations of market spreads for collateralized debt obligation (CDO) tranches, we construct a risk‐neutral default intensity process for the portfolio underlying the CDO which matches these observations, by looking for the risk‐neutral loss process “closest” to a prior loss process, verifying the calibration constraints. We formalize the problem in terms of minimization of relative entropy with respect to the prior under calibration constraints and use convex duality methods to solve the problem: the dual problem is shown to be an intensity control problem, characterized in terms of a Hamilton–Jacobi system of differential equations, for which we present an analytical solution. Given a set of observed CDO tranche spreads, our method allows to construct a default intensity process which leads to tranche spreads consistent with the observations. We illustrate our method on ITRAXX index data: our results reveal strong evidence for the dependence of loss transitions rates on the previous number of defaults, and offer quantitative evidence for contagion effects in the (risk‐neutral) loss process.  相似文献

This article presents a two‐factor model of the term structure of interest rates. It is assumed that default‐free discount bond prices are determined by the time to maturity and two factors, the long‐term interest rate, and the spread (i.e., the difference) between the short‐term (instantaneous) risk‐free rate of interest and the long‐term rate. Assuming that both factors follow a joint Ornstein‐Uhlenbeck process, a general bond pricing equation is derived. Closed‐form expressions for prices of bonds and interest rate derivatives are obtained. The analytical formula for derivatives is applied to price European options on discount bonds and more complex types of options. Finally, empirical evidence of the model's performance in comparison with an alternative two‐factor (Vasicek‐CIR) model is presented. The findings show that both models exhibit a similar behavior for the shortest maturities. However, importantly, the results demonstrate that modeling the volatility in the long‐term rate process can help to fit the observed data, and can improve the prediction of the future movements in medium‐ and long‐term interest rates. So it is not so clear which is the best model to be used. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Jrl Fut Mark 23: 1075–1105, 2003  相似文献

We present an alternative approach to the pricing of bonds and bond derivatives in a multivariate factor model for the term structure of interest rates that is based on the solution of an optimal stochastic control problem. It can also be seen as an alternative to the classical approach of computing forward prices by forward measures and as such can be extended to other situations where traditionally a change of measure is involved based on a change of numeraire. We finally provide explicit formulas for the computation of bond options in a bivariate linear‐quadratic factor model.  相似文献

This paper studies multiperiod asset pricing theory in arbitrage‐free financial markets with proportional transaction costs. The mathematical formulation is based on a Euclidean space for weakly arbitrage‐free security markets and strongly arbitrage‐free security markets. We establish the weakly arbitrage‐free pricing theorem and the strongly arbitrage‐free pricing theorem.  相似文献

This paper presents hedging strategies for European and exotic options in a Lévy market. By applying Taylor’s theorem, dynamic hedging portfolios are constructed under different market assumptions, such as the existence of power jump assets or moment swaps. In the case of European options or baskets of European options, static hedging is implemented. It is shown that perfect hedging can be achieved. Delta and gamma hedging strategies are extended to higher moment hedging by investing in other traded derivatives depending on the same underlying asset. This development is of practical importance as such other derivatives might be readily available. Moment swaps or power jump assets are not typically liquidly traded. It is shown how minimal variance portfolios can be used to hedge the higher order terms in a Taylor expansion of the pricing function, investing only in a risk‐free bank account, the underlying asset, and potentially variance swaps. The numerical algorithms and performance of the hedging strategies are presented, showing the practical utility of the derived results.  相似文献

Canonical valuation is a nonparametric method for valuing derivatives proposed by M. Stutzer (1996). Although the properties of canonical estimates of option price and hedge ratio have been studied in simulation settings, applications of the methodology to traded derivative data are rare. This study explores the practical usefulness of canonical valuation using a large sample of index options. The basic unconstrained canonical estimator fails to outperform the traditional Black–Scholes model; however, a constrained canonical estimator that incorporates a small amount of conditioning information produces dramatic reductions in mean pricing errors. Similarly, the canonical approach generates hedge ratios that result in superior hedging effectiveness compared to Black–Scholes‐based deltas. The results encourage further exploration and application of the canonical approach to pricing and hedging derivatives. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Jnl Fut Mark 27: 771–790, 2007  相似文献

This study investigates compound basket options, which are options on portfolios of options. Although they may be new to financial markets, they are available as equity basket options, equity spread options, stocks of holding companies, and collateralized debt obligations. Using moments of portfolio values, we provide formulas for pricing compound basket options. According to numerical analysis, a lower bound and a weighted average of bounds yield relatively small errors. Additionally, ignoring the compound feature increases the pricing error of equity basket options because the feature captures the capital structure and leverage effect of stock prices.  相似文献

Accounting for model uncertainty in risk management and option pricing leads to infinite‐dimensional optimization problems that are both analytically and numerically intractable. In this article, we study when this hurdle can be overcome for the so‐called optimized certainty equivalent (OCE) risk measure—including the average value‐at‐risk as a special case. First, we focus on the case where the uncertainty is modeled by a nonlinear expectation that penalizes distributions that are “far” in terms of optimal‐transport distance (e.g. Wasserstein distance) from a given baseline distribution. It turns out that the computation of the robust OCE reduces to a finite‐dimensional problem, which in some cases can even be solved explicitly. This principle also applies to the shortfall risk measure as well as for the pricing of European options. Further, we derive convex dual representations of the robust OCE for measurable claims without any assumptions on the set of distributions. Finally, we give conditions on the latter set under which the robust average value‐at‐risk is a tail risk measure.  相似文献

We present a theoretical methodology for the pricing of catastrophe (CAT) derivatives with event‐dependent and non‐convex payoffs given the price of a CAT indexed futures contract. We do not assume a fully diversifiable CAT event risk, nor do we assume knowledge of the martingale probability measure beyond the futures price. We derive tight bounds on the contract value and present trading strategies exploiting the mispricing whenever the bounds are violated. We estimate the bounds of the reinsurance contract with data from hurricane landings in Florida. Our method is also applicable when there is no futures market but the price of a CAT‐indexed bond is available.  相似文献

We propose a method for constructing an arbitrage‐free multiasset pricing model which is consistent with a set of observed single‐ and multiasset derivative prices. The pricing model is constructed as a random mixture of N reference models, where the distribution of mixture weights is obtained by solving a well‐posed convex optimization problem. Application of this method to equity and index options shows that, whereas multivariate diffusion models with constant correlation fail to match the prices of index and component options simultaneously, a jump‐diffusion model with a common jump component affecting all stocks enables to do so. Furthermore, we show that even within a parametric model class, there is a wide range of correlation patterns compatible with observed prices of index options. Our method allows, as a by product, to quantify this model uncertainty with no further computational effort and propose static hedging strategies for reducing the exposure of multiasset derivatives to model uncertainty.  相似文献

Based on the works of Brockman, P. and Turtle, H. J. (2003) and Giesecke, K. (2004), we propose in this study a hybrid barrier option model to explain observed credit spreads. It is free of problems with the structural model, which underprescribed credit spreads for investment grade corporate bonds and overprescribed the high‐yield issues. Unlike the standard barrier option approach, our hybrid model does not imply, for high‐yield issues with firms under financial stress, a reduction of credit spreads while firm value actually falls. Our empirical analysis supports that when credit spreads are quoted abnormally higher or rising faster than expected, unexpected changes tend to persist. Otherwise a significant and prompt reversion to long‐term equilibrium takes place. This asymmetric pricing phenomenon is validated with a method introduced by Enders, W. and Granger, C. W. J. (1998) and Enders, W. and Siklos, P. L. (2001). The pricing asymmetry could not have been produced by a structural model employing only standard option. But it is consistent with a hybrid barrier option model. Our model characterizes the valuation of debt under financial stress and the asymmetric price pattern better than both the classical structural and the standard barrier option approaches. It can be extended to the study of individual CDS for its better liquidity than individual corporate bonds. This study provides helpful implications especially for the medium and high‐yield issues in pricing as well as portfolio diversification. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study proposes an N ‐state Markov‐switching general autoregressive conditionally heteroskedastic (MS‐GARCH) option model and develops a new lattice algorithm to price derivatives under this framework. The MS‐GARCH option model allows volatility dynamics switching between different GARCH processes with a hidden Markov chain, thus exhibiting high flexibility in capturing the dynamics of financial variables. To measure the pricing performance of the MS‐GARCH lattice algorithm, we investigate the convergence of European option prices produced on the new lattice to their true values as conducted by the simulation. These results are very satisfactory. The empirical evidence also suggests that the MS‐GARCH model performs well in fitting the data in‐sample and one‐week‐ahead out‐of‐sample prediction. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Uncertainty on the choice of an option pricing model can lead to "model risk" in the valuation of portfolios of options. After discussing some properties which a quantitative measure of model uncertainty should verify in order to be useful and relevant in the context of risk management of derivative instruments, we introduce a quantitative framework for measuring model uncertainty in the context of derivative pricing. Two methods are proposed: the first method is based on a coherent risk measure compatible with market prices of derivatives, while the second method is based on a convex risk measure. Our measures of model risk lead to a premium for model uncertainty which is comparable to other risk measures and compatible with observations of market prices of a set of benchmark derivatives. Finally, we discuss some implications for the management of "model risk."  相似文献

Using a suitable change of probability measure, we obtain a Poisson series representation for the arbitrage‐free price process of vulnerable contingent claims in a regime‐switching market driven by an underlying continuous‐time Markov process. As a result of this representation, along with a short‐time asymptotic expansion of the claim's price process, we develop an efficient novel method for pricing claims whose payoffs may depend on the full path of the underlying Markov chain. The proposed approach is applied to price not only simple European claims such as defaultable bonds, but also a new type of path‐dependent claims that we term self‐decomposable, as well as the important class of vulnerable call and put options on a stock. We provide a detailed error analysis and illustrate the accuracy and computational complexity of our method on several market traded instruments, such as defaultable bond prices, barrier options, and vulnerable call options. Using again our Poisson series representation, we show differentiability in time of the predefault price function of European vulnerable claims, which enables us to rigorously deduce Feynman‐Ka? representations for the predefault pricing function and new semimartingale representations for the price process of the vulnerable claim under both risk‐neutral and objective probability measures.  相似文献

We discuss the binary nature of funding impact in derivative valuation. Under some conditions, funding is either a cost or a benefit, that is, one of the lending/borrowing rates does not play a role in pricing derivatives. When derivatives are priced, considering different lending/borrowing rates leads to semilinear backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) and partial differential equation (PDEs), and thus it is necessary to solve the equations numerically. However, once it can be guaranteed that only one of the rates affects pricing, linear equations can be recovered, and analytical formulae can be derived. Moreover, as a by‐product, our results explain how debt value adjustment (DVA) and funding benefits are dissimilar. It is often believed that considering both DVA and funding benefits results in a double‐counting issue but it will be shown that the two components are affected by different mathematical structures of derivative transactions. We find that funding benefit is related to the decreasing property of the payoff function, but this relationship decreases as the funding choices of underlying assets are transferred to repo markets.  相似文献

We study convex risk measures describing the upper and lower bounds of a good deal bound, which is a subinterval of a no‐arbitrage pricing bound. We call such a convex risk measure a good deal valuation and give a set of equivalent conditions for its existence in terms of market. A good deal valuation is characterized by several equivalent properties and in particular, we see that a convex risk measure is a good deal valuation only if it is given as a risk indifference price. An application to shortfall risk measure is given. In addition, we show that the no‐free‐lunch (NFL) condition is equivalent to the existence of a relevant convex risk measure, which is a good deal valuation. The relevance turns out to be a condition for a good deal valuation to be reasonable. Further, we investigate conditions under which any good deal valuation is relevant.  相似文献

This article addresses a misconception in the literature concerning the valuation of warrants when a warrant is treated as an option on the stock of the underlying firm. The magnitude and timing of the impact of a warrant issue on the underlying stock price and on the wealth of the firm's shareholders is examined within a continuous‐time arbitrage‐free economy. In particular, it is shown that the stock price of the underlying firm conditionally reflects dilution at all times following the announcement of a warrant issue and notwithstanding that the warrants might not even have been issued yet. Valuing a warrant or convertible security as an option on the post‐announcement underlying stock price means there is no need for any explicit adjustment for dilution to be made to the chosen option pricing model. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study proposes a new scheme for static hedging of European path‐independent derivatives under stochastic volatility models. First, we show that pricing European path‐independent derivatives under stochastic volatility models is transformed to pricing those under one‐factor local volatility models. Next, applying an efficient static replication method for one‐dimensional price processes developed by Takahashi and Yamazaki (2008), we present a static hedging scheme for European path‐independent derivatives. Finally, a numerical example comparing our method with a dynamic hedging method under Heston's (1993) stochastic volatility model is used to demonstrate that our hedging scheme is effective in practice. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
