An overview of the literature on Internet social networking (ISN) is presented. The authors identify four dominant streams of research and review the key contributions to the field. The review reveals that the research field is fragmented and does not yet facilitate a general understanding of the phenomenon. In particular research is very much skewed towards certain user groups (e.g., students) and platforms (in particular Facebook). Further, implications for a corporate context are discussed. In doing so, three contexts of application are differentiated: Social network sites (SNSs) for 1) recruiting and professional career development, 2) relationship facilitation in distributed work contexts, and 3) interactions with end customers. The authors discuss SNS potentials, implications of existing ISN research and future research opportunities. In summary, they seek to contribute to a better understanding of the phenomenon of ISN and to making available the current state of ISN research for the wider Enterprise 2.0 community.  相似文献

This paper provides a case study on the management of private home accommodation used to house overseas guests who are primarily registered as students with the English as a foreign language sector. Abstract

This article investigates the forces that constrain Taiwanese-based corporations from improving quality and introducing and marketing new products. A total of 182 executives from the service and manufacturing sectors participated in the study. The results indicate that Taiwanese-based firms are optimistic about their competitive market position and about their respective industries. Furthermore, executives of these firms prefer to compete in regional and global markets. Absence of pride in a job well done, ineffective performance evaluation systems, and excessive government regulations were found to be the most important factors that may prohibit improvement in product quality. The results also reveal that various factors may hinder the development and marketing of new products. They are inattentiveness to consumer needs, top management's lack of attention to world competition and global opportunities, deterioration of the competitive spirit among employees and managers, absence of a flexible manufacturing strategy, volatile business environment, and too much focus on immediate results.  相似文献

This article suggests a theoretical exploration of possible relationships between several issues normally discussed separately: the long-standing capital/labour debate, the distinctions between popular capitalism (ie universal or very widespread shareholding) and stakeholding, poverty and inequality and the factors which promote productivity and competitiveness in firms. The role of networks is a major factor in the internationalization process for entrepreneurs. In this article, we analyze the influence of social networks in international entrepreneurship. We developed a multiple case study based on a qualitative perspective, selecting four fruit exporters from the Brazil’s semi-arid region and used a qualitative and longitudinal design. These firms are among the largest fruit exporters in Brazil. Content analysis was derived by examining organizational documents, bibliographical material, and semi-structured interviews with 30 managers and consultants. We used ATLAS.ti software to analyze the collected material. The major networks were formed with buyers and competitors, affording benefits such as trust and information; relationships were therefore formed in both vertical and horizontal directions. Consequently, and due to their influence on the internationalization process, social networks are considered a relevant subject in international entrepreneurship. Moreover, the expressions of social networking have interfaces with both the exploration of international opportunities and attitude towards risk, as well as the development of competitive features that are the fundamental dimensions of international entrepreneurship. The results reveal that social networks are fundamental to entrepreneurs’ businesses and are strategic for their development and maintenance. Recognition of such role of these networks in international entrepreneurship is the main contribution of this paper.  相似文献
