Evaluating the impact of Arnould and Wallendorf's (1994) market-oriented ethnography

This paper evaluates the significance and research impact of Arnould and Wallendorf's (1994), “Market-Oriented Ethnography: Interpretation Building and Marketing Strategy Formulation” (A&W). A&W provides a comprehensive theoretical aspect of market-oriented ethnography which is useful to marketing practitioners in formulating marketing strategy. A citation analysis is conducted to assess the scholarly impact of A&W. In the 13 year period (1996-2009), A&W receives 204 citations in Google Scholar and 86 citations in Scopus. In total 43 journals include citations to A&W. The findings show that the cited authors are referencing the work of A&W mainly in two aspects: (1) using an ethnographic approach as an exemplar qualitative methodology; and (2) using an etic/emic perspective to provide deeper insights in a cultural context. Evidence in this report supports the assertion that A&W is a seminal contribution to advancing alternative research methods in marketing in general that go beyond the continuing dominant logic of empirical positivism.

Die Euro-Verschuldung der Nationalstaaten als Schwachstelle der EWU

Die Schuldenkrise in der EWU ist entstanden, weil sich die Staaten in „fremder W?hrung“ verschulden müssen. Diese Konstellation war als Ordnungsrahmen bei der Gründung der W?hrungsunion vorgesehen, führte aber dazu, dass sich die Staaten von den internationalen Finanzm?rkten abh?ngig gemacht haben. Eine L?sung der Krise ist nur dann m?glich, wenn die L?nder des Euroraums begreifen, dass eine W?hrungsunion nicht zum Nulltarif zu haben ist.     

Entwickelt sich ein neues Weltwährungssystem?

Die gro?en Leistungsbilanzdefizite der USA und die spiegelbildlich angeh?uften W?hrungsreserven in US-Dollar haben Kritik an der Schlüsselw?hrung und Vorschl?ge für eine ?nderung der derzeitigen Weltw?hrungsordnung hervorgerufen. Sowohl global als auch regional sind mehr oder weniger Erfolg versprechende Bemühungen um W?hrungsunionen zu verzeichnen. Der Aufsatz ist Werner Ehrlicher gewidmet, der sich in den 80er Jahren mit den „treibenden Kr?ften und Synthesen der W?hrungspolitik“ auseinandergesetzt hat.     

Martingale Measures For A Class of Right-Continuous Processes

The subject of the present paper is the following. Suppose that W is a class of adapted, right-continuous processes on the continuous time horizon [0, 1], and for every stopping time and W , () is bounded below. A necessary and sufficient condition will be given for the existence of a probability measure Q which is equivalent to the original measure and such that each process in W is a martingale under Q . If the processes in W represent the discounted prices of available securities, then the condition given here for the existence of a martingale measure can be interpreted as absence of "free lunch" in the securities market. This is a familiar kind of theorem from the finance literature; the novelty of this paper is that the security prices are not required to be in LP for some 1 p , nor are they assumed to be continuous. Also, the concept of free lunch is invariant under the substitution of the original probability measure by an equivalent probability measure. the assumption that () is bounded below for every W and stopping time is quite natural since prices are nonnegative.
We shall define a class of admissible subjective probability measures and assume that each agent in the economy has selected a subjective probability measure from (hat class. Subjective free lunch for an agent will be defined using his or her subjective probability measure. It will be shown that under an additional condition the existence of free lunch is equivalent to the existence of a common subjective free lunch simultaneously for all possible agents in the economy.     

OPTIMAL INVESTMENT STRATEGIES FOR CONTROLLING DRAWDOWNS

We analyze the optimal risky investment policy for an investor who, at each point in time, wants to lose no more than a fixed percentage of the maximum value his wealth has achieved up to that time. In particular, if M _t is the maximum level of wealth W attained on or before time t , then the constraint imposed on his portfolio choice is that W_tα M _t, where α is an exogenous number betweenα O and 1. We show that, for constant relative risk aversion utility functions, the optimal policy involves an investment in risky assets at time t in proportion to the "surplus" W _t - α M _t. the optimal policy may appear similar to the constant-proportion portfolio insurance policy analyzed in Black and Perold (1987) and Grossman and Vila (1989). However, in those papers, the investor keeps his wealth above a nonstochastic floor F instead of a stochastic floor α M _t. the stochastic character of the floor studied here has interesting effects on the investment policy in states of nature when wealth is at an all-time high; i.e., when Wt = M _t. It can be shown that at W _t= M _t, α M _t is expected to grow at a faster rate than W _t, and therefore the investment in the risky asset can be expected to fall. We also show that the investment in the risky asset can be expected to rise when W _t is close to α M _t. We conjecture that in an equilibrium model the stochastic character of the floor creates "resistance" levels as the market approaches an all-time high (because of the reluctance of investors to take more risk when W _t= M _t).

Konvergenzen und Divergenzen im „Währungsraum USA“ im Vergleich zur Eurozone

Die aktuelle Krise l?sst vermuten, dass die Eurozone noch lange nicht die theoretischen Voraussetzungen für einen optimalen W?hrungsraum erfüllt. Demgegenüber sind die USA ein funktionierendes W?hrungsgebiet, obwohl sich wichtige wirtschaftliche Kennziffern zwischen den einzelnen Bundesstaaten deutlich unterscheiden. Allerdings wirken in den USA Ausgleichsmechanismen, die in der Eurozone nicht vorhanden sind.

This paper explores the growing array of initiatives aimed at creating corporate accountability with the goal of attempting to uncover the foundation principles that underlie them and create a floor below which practices are ethically questionable. Using the Global Compact's nine principles and the work of Transparency International as guides, foundational principles seem to exist in the areas of human rights, labor standards, environment, and anti-corruption initiatives.

Die Finanz- und Staatsschuldenkrise hat der EZB die Rolle aufgezwungen, durch Notma?nahmen die Stabilit?t der W?hrungsunion zu sichern. Ihre Unabh?ngigkeit wird zunehmend dadurch gef?hrdet, dass es in diesem Prozess zu einer Verquickung von Fiskal- und Geldpolitik kommt. W ünschenswert w?re eine Rückkehr der EZB zu ihrer alten Rolle und eine Strategie, die für einen Abbau der weltweiten und europ?ischen Ungleichgewichte sorgen k?nnte.
