内蒙古自治区煤炭行业工伤保险协议管理座谈会在呼和浩特召开

内蒙古自治区煤炭行业工伤保险协议管理工作座谈会暨信息系统培训于2010年4月14日在呼和浩特市桃李湖宾馆召开。全区煤炭参保单位社保负责人、业务人员、工伤保险协议定点医疗机构负责人、辅助器具配置机构负责人等130多人参加了会议。内蒙古煤炭社保局局长杜金福作了题为《强化措施规范管理全力做好工伤保险服务协议管理工作》的讲话,从“医疗和辅助器具管理情况、服务协议管理工作中存在的突出问题、制定办法加强协议服务机构监督管理、今后几项重点工作”四个方面介绍了内蒙古煤炭社保局工作情况。     

Food safety and development of the beef industry in China

Food safety concerns have escalated in China as they have elsewhere, especially in relation to meats. Beef production and consumption has increased proportionately faster than all other meats over the last two decades. Yet the slaughtering, processing and marketing of beef remains, for the most part, extremely primitive when compared with Western beef supply chains. By comparing the economics of household slaughtering with that of various types of abattoirs, this paper explains why household slaughtering and wet markets still dominate beef processing and distribution in China. The negative economic, social and industry development implications of enforcing more stringent food safety regulations are highlighted. The willingness/capacity of consumers to pay the added cost of better inspection and other services to guarantee food safety is investigated. In this context, the paper also evaluates the market opportunities for both domestic and imported “Green Beef”. The paper questions the merit of policy initiatives aimed at modernising Chinese beef supply chains for the mass market along Western lines.     

Food waste management in the catering industry: Enablers and interrelationships

Food waste has a wide range of negative implications on the environment, economy and society and it is a concern for the catering industry and a growing percentage of the population. This work investigates the main root causes of food waste, in the catering industry, based on data collected from 32 businesses located in Wales, UK. The research uses multi-criteria decision making methods (Analytic Hierarchy Process and Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory), to analyse the degrees of importance and interrelationships of food waste enablers using holistic cause and effect diagrams and priority ranking. The analysis identifies critical food waste enablers in different dimensions (procurement and storage, processing, operation strategy, people and consumer) for various business outlets. Those causes can be addressed with limited resources and create the maximum value for the business and environment. The methodology could be used as a strategic tool by businesses in daily operations by managing and controlling identified root causes.     

US national dietary goals: Food industry threat or opportunity?

The authors discuss the recent controversial promulgation of a set of national dietary goals for the USA, in the context of their effect on the food industry. A report is described which surveyed reactions to the goals. Several suggestions are made for food industry, consumer and government responses to changes in the food policy environment in the USA.

Food industry structure in Norway and Denmark since the 1990s: Path dependency and institutional trajectories in Nordic food markets

Structural changes in Norwegian and Danish food industry since the 1990s is analysed as a path dependent response to the neo-liberal turn. Norway entered the 1990s as a protected market and Denmark as case of an export oriented industry. These developmental strategies are rooted in early 20th century industrialisation and influenced by institutional transformations in the 1990s, such as EU and WTO. Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) are studied in the context of changing political environments. Explaining two different trajectories, we combine path dependency theories and a Polanyi inspired ‘varieties of capitalism’ framework with corporate strategy theories on food industry M&As. We identify two different types of path dependent development, a self-reinforcing in Denmark and a transformative ‘breaking point’ in Norway.
