Abstract

To be able to adjust to a foreign work environment, expatriate managers need to know what to adjust to. This article explored to what extent expatriate executives are familiar with the work values of their host country national subordinates in Asia. A field study investigated Swedish top managers' perceptions of the work values of their middle managers who were employed in Swedish subsidiaries in Hong Kong. The result showed that the Swedish executives significantly underestimated the importance of the work values of their subordinates in one third of the investigated values. Managerial implications of the findings are discussed.  相似文献

Benito Arruñada finds evidence of a distinct Protestant social ethic in the ISSP's 1998 Religion II Survey (Economic Journal 2010; 120 : 890–918). We replicate Arruñada's results using his broad definition of Protestantism and our new narrow definition, which includes only those ascetic denominations that Max Weber singled out for possessing a strong capitalist work ethic. We then extend this analysis to the ISSP's 2008 Religion III Survey, the most recent comparable international questionnaire on religious attitudes and religious change. We find no evidence of a Calvinist work ethic, and suggest that Arruñada's Protestant social ethic continues into the 21st century. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

随着心理学和组织行为研究对工作动机研究的深入,非自利型动机逐渐受到重视.员工亲社会动机是一种希望通过自身的工作角色帮助他人,为他人谋利的欲望.作为员工工作动机中的一种,国外的学术界对亲社会动机已经多有关注,不少研究证实了它与员工个体因素和组织情境有密切关系,对员工的工作绩效、任务持久度、生产量和组织公民行为都有积极影响;但是国内对它的研究却比较少.通过梳理大量的文献,本文从员工亲社会动机的内涵、测量、前因变量和结果变量等方面进行了综述,并对未来的研究进行了展望.  相似文献

Culture and values are key drivers of corporate entrepreneurship in early stages of family firm development, but value conflicts often arise over time that progressively inhibit their entrepreneurial efforts. How can family firms reconcile conflicting values to sustain corporate entrepreneurship over time? Our 45‐year longitudinal case study of a large global family firm shows that family business leaders’ practices of invoking and flexibly using family and business values were crucial to achieve sustained entrepreneurial behaviour and growth over an extended period of time. We theorize these efforts as system‐spanning values work enfolding through specific family, business, and temporal mechanisms. By identifying and elucidating three types of values work (i.e., rooting, revitalizing, and spreading), our study advances current understanding of the micro‐foundations underpinning the relationship between values and entrepreneurship in family firms.  相似文献

为了研究中小学教师工作价值观的个体差异,采用吴铁雄教授等人编制的《工作价值观量表》,对广东省832名中小学教师进行问卷调查,结果表明:中小学教师在工具价值方面存在显著的人口统计学变量(包括性别、班主任、学段、城乡、职务)的差异,而在目的价值方面,除了职务方面存在显著差异外,其余几个方面均不存在明显的差异。  相似文献

This study has 3 objectives: to develop a scale to measure preferences for involvement in management (PIM), to examine if PIM are related to work values (altruism, pride in craftsmanship, collectivism, and individualism), and to examine if PIM are affected by a bundle of work values. Data are taken from 749 participants to develop a psychometrically appealing scale for measuring PIM. Using the universalistic perspective, we predict a positive relationship between PIM and altruism, pride in craftsmanship, and collectivism, and a negative relationship between PIM and individualism. Using the synergistic perspective, we hypothesized that PIM are likely to be positively affected by a bundle of work values. Our results support the universalistic perspective because PIM are positively related to altruism, pride in craftsmanship, and collectivism, and negatively related to individualism. Our results did not support the synergistic perspective. In the final section of the paper, we outlined the implications of our results for organizational practice and public policy.  相似文献

作为一项方兴未艾的商业实践,游戏化(gamification)在工作设计与员工激励领域显示出巨大的应用潜力.然而,有效的工作游戏化离不开对人类心理行为规律的准确把握,关于工作游戏化的学术研究是业界应用的基础.本文目的在于从学术研究的角度回答以下三个问题: 工作游戏化是什么?、工作游戏化有效吗?,以及工作游戏化为何/如何发挥作用?.为此,本文在文献回顾的基础上,针对工作游戏化界定了主要概念,总结了结果变量的实证研究,并梳理了主要的理论模型.基于以上分析,本文进一步讨论了工作游戏化的未来研究方向.  相似文献

The Thought of Work makes a vital contribution to industrial relations by offering a fresh examination of the many meanings of work and by clearly illustrating how those different meanings shape our thoughts and actions. The book also shows that work is fundamental to the human experience and highlights work’s complex and textured nature. The volume stops short of tying the different meanings together by means of an integrative framework. But even without such a framework, which can be constructed by integrating The Thought of Work with John R. Commons’s Industrial Goodwill, Budd makes it clear that work is a fully human activity—not merely an economic, psychological, or social endeavor. This study presents a latent variable framework to provide consistent and efficient estimates of market values of amenities. A model for property values of residential housing using different indicators for neighborhood quality and property value is estimated using data from the U.S. American Housing Survey. The estimated effect of neighborhood quality on property values is positive and more significant compared to the estimates obtained by ordinary least squares and instrumental variable methods. Variances of errors of measurement and variances of the latent structures are shown to be positive and significant without imposing nonnegativity restrictions.  相似文献

In this study, two issues regarding the use of the Portrait Value Questionnaire (PVQ; Schwartz et al.: J. Cross. Cult. Psychol. 32:519–542, 2001) with older adults were addressed: (1) whether the quasi-circumplex structure of values, developed on younger adult samples, also emerges among older adults; and (2) whether the PVQ demonstrates measurement invariance across age groups and equivalence over time. The 40-item version of the PVQ was completed by 433 retired adults and 173 university students in Montreal, Canada. In both retired and student samples, the quasi-circumplex structure of values emerged using exploratory techniques, but was not supported by constrained confirmatory factor analyses. A modified 26-item model was necessary to achieve adequate fit indices in both samples, suggesting problems of multi-collinearity and internal discriminant validity. However, using the revised 26-item model of the values, support was found for most types of measurement invariance across age groups and time. The PVQ should, therefore, be considered appropriate for use across the adult lifespan and in longitudinal research. Results are discussed with regard to the Schwartz (In: Zanna M (ed) Advances in experimental social psychology. New York: Academic Press, pp. 1–65, 1992) value theory and the conceptualizing of values across the lifespan.  相似文献

Engagement with work has been one of the most influential management ideas of recent decades. A prevalent assumption is that engagement is inherently beneficial and disengagement is a problem to be addressed. Yet theory and research on disengagement show it may not have the assumed negative impact on organizations, and at times may be beneficial for employees. This research seeks to unpack the underlying assumptions of work disengagement through collating and reviewing studies of the phenomenon. The paper makes three contributions. First, it provides a clear argument for why disengagement is a concept worth studying in its own right, as a functional coping response. Second, it offers a typology of the antecedents that applies to current theoretical frameworks. Third, it suggests differentiating between engaged, not engaged, and disengaged to address various levels of dedication to work domains and provide a basis for more evidence-based HR interventions.  相似文献
