Significance levels of linear rank tests using Edgeworth expansions

We study one aspect of applying Edgeworth expansions to linear rank statistics. Since the use of such expansions is often recommended already for moderate sample sizes we investigate for this case the gain of accuracy for the level of significance of some linear rank tests when their critical values are derived from an Edgeworth expansion instead of from a normal approximation. We verify Does' conditions (1983) for the validity of the expansions for four rank statistics of general interest and show by a numerical study that an Edge-worth expansion does not outperform the normal approximation in all situations. A considerable improvement shows up however for the Klotz test at the 5% level.

The Asymptotic Efficacies and Relative Efficiencies of Various Linear Rank Tests for Independence

In this paper we consider eight general models of independence, the Hájek–Šidák model, the Janssen–Mason model, Konijn’s model, Steffensen’s model, the Farlie model, the bivariate Gamma distribution, the Mardia model and the Frechet model. The asymptotic efficacies and relative efficiencies of various linear rank tests are computed. It turns out that the asymptotic power depends heavily on the underlying model. However, for the vast majority of considered models, the Spearman test is, asymptotically, a good choice.     

On the Confidence Interval for the Binomial Parameter

The use of confidence intervals (CIs) is strongly recommended in the 5th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. The CI for the binomial parameter π is customarily obtained using Wald method, which uses the normal approximation to the binomial distribution and the estimated standard error. Wald CI has been shown to be unsatisfactory and alternative CIs have been proposed, but this literature appears to have gone unnoticed to psychologists. Only one of these alternatives is dual with the conventional Score test for π, thus meeting the requirements stated in the Publication Manual. Three examples illustrate the appropriate choice of a CI for π in the context of growing concern with good statistical practices.

测试主机自检适配器系统设计

本文在深入分析测控主机的结构及原理的基础上,明确测试任务以及测试流程,根据待测信号特征和指标设计测试功能电路,完成了测控主机的PXI-2204数据采集卡的AD测试、DA测试、DI/O测试、计数测试,RS232串口测试、警示灯电压测试、图像采集卡RTV-24测试。按照实际需要,充分考虑实用性、可操作性,完成了适配器的接口、外形设计及内部设置。利用LabWindows/CVI进行程序开发,采用虚拟仪器技术完成了测试功能界面,提供一个良好的人机交互环境。最后通过与测控主机连接测试,验证了自检适配器的有效性。

无菌检查用培养基保存与灵敏度检查

目的:将配制好经灭菌的培养基储藏在温度为18～25℃的避光储藏室中,确定在此环境中保存配制好经灭菌的培养基的灵敏度符合《中华人民共和国药典》(2010年版)(以下简称《药典》)相关规定,保证无菌检查结果的可靠、有效。方法:根据《药典》附录XI H无菌检查法中灵敏度检查的方法,金黄色葡萄球菌、铜绿假单胞菌、枯草芽孢杆菌、生孢梭菌、白色念珠菌、黑曲霉菌经培养后,取1 mL注入规定量的培养基中,于0 d,7 d,14 d,21 d进行灵敏度检查。结果:于0 d,7 d,14d,21 d观察结果,金黄色葡萄球菌、铜绿假单胞菌、枯草芽孢杆菌、生孢梭菌、白色念珠菌、黑曲霉菌在各规定量培养基中均生长良好,确定在此环境中保存配制好经灭菌的培养基的灵敏度符合药典相关规定。     

London calling: Nonlinear mean reversion across national stock markets

This paper revisits empirical evidence of mean reversion of relative stock prices in international stock markets. We implement a strand of univariate and panel unit root tests for linear and nonlinear models of 18 national stock indices from 1969 to 2016. Our major findings are as follows. First, we find strong evidence of nonlinear mean reversion of the relative stock price with the UK index as the reference, calling attention to the stock index in the UK, but not with the US index. Our results imply an important role of the local common factor in the European stock markets. Second, panel tests yield no evidence of linear and nonlinear stationarity when the cross-section dependence is considered, which provides conflicting results from those of the univariate tests. Last, we show how to understand these results via dynamic factor analysis. When the stationary common factor dominates nonstationary idiosyncratic components in small samples, panel tests that filter out the stationary common factor may yield evidence against the stationarity null hypothesis in finite samples. We corroborate this conjecture via extensive Monte Carlo simulations.
