今年的奥斯卡最佳外语片奖,授予了丹麦影片《更好的世界》。印象中,这是我第一次接触丹麦电影。看之前,心里存有这样一个疑惑：在北欧那样高度成熟的社会,还能拍出什么类型的电影来呢？高福利的生活环境,会极大降低个人陷入困厄和灾难的几率,而电影离开了这些元素,又怎么展开故事呢？

Deep change. How operational innovation can transform your company

Breakthrough innovations--not just steady improvements--in operations can destroy competitors and shake up entire industries. Just look at Dell, Toyota, and Wal-Mart. But fewer than 10% of large companies have made serious attempts to achieve operational innovation. Why? Operational innovation may feel unglamorous or unfamiliar to many executives, but it is the only lasting basis for superior performance. Executives who understand how operational innovation happens--and who understand the barriers that prevent it from happening--can add to their strategic arsenal one of the most powerful competitive weapons in existence. In an economy that has overdosed on hype and in which customers rule as never before, operational innovation offers a meaningful and sustainable way to get ahead--and stay ahead--of the pack.

Not everybody wants to save the world

A consumer lens is used to examine investing behavior in this study. The study focuses on the importance given by investors to their economic and social investing goals (SIG). This approach redirects managerial attention from the investment to the investor and investing goals. The study finds that differences in environmental attitude, social investing efficacy, materialism, religiosity and protected values can explain disparities in investing goals. The findings suggest a segmentation approach based on differences in antecedent effects and economic and SIG.

How to stop the race to the bottom

Standard tax multipliers are a widespread feature of fiscal equalization systems. A simple theoretical model shows that actual tax multipliers respond positively to changes in standard tax multipliers. This theoretical prediction is tested empirically using data on municipalities in Germany. A quasi-experiment in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is exploited to identify the incentive effect. The empirical results confirm that local business tax policy is shaped by standard tax multipliers. They provide a straightforward practical tool to avoid a race to the bottom in local business tax rates.
