In this paper we analyze the implementation of socially optimal mergers when the regulator is not informed about all parameters that determine social and private gains from potential mergers. We show that implementation requires a certain degree of agreement between social and private incentives. The most important example where this congruence is present is when the uncertainty refers to cost savings, because in this case society and firms want costs savings to be as high as possible. The analysis is predominantly undertaken within the framework of the theoretical model of March and Simon [1]; additional factors being inserted where necessary. March and Simon discuss the factors affecting labour turnover in terms of the influences affecting two components: (a) the perceived desirability or undesirability of leaving the employer; and (b) the perceived ease or difficulty of movement from the employer [1, pp. 93–106]. All the factors discussed by March and Simon have been extracted from the text and are shown in diagrammatic form in Figures 1 and 2 along with several additional factors. The procedure adopted in the analysis is as follows: (1) to state March and Simon's hypotheses with regard to specific factors affecting labour turnover; (2) to discuss these hypotheses in the light of relevant research studies; (3) to discuss further variables omitted by March and Simon in the light of relevant research studies; and (4) to discuss the limitations of many of the studies discussed. 相似文献

AbstractAre emerging market banks necessarily prone to localize HRM when entering developed markets? According to this comparative case study of two Chinese banks in Canada, we instead found a trend toward the integration of HRM with the parent companies’ practices, with varying levels of integration based on factors such as international experience and investment method. Importantly, the current practice, which may appear to be suboptimal in light of the localization imperative, has not prevented the banks from attaining steady financial performance, partly enabled by the carrying-over of home grown customers and the presence of a distinct co-ethnic community. However, such practice may have adverse effects on their long-term success, especially given their claimed aim to become global competitors. A conceptual model is built upon these findings, which also offers important practical implications. 相似文献

This article analyses the Chancellor's options for the forthcoming Budget and, in particular, the case for tax cuts. James Nixon, John O'Sullivan and Andrew Sentance argue that there is no case for large reductions, with public borrowing still running at an unsustainable rate and reasonable prospects for growth next year. The case for a modest reduction is more finely balanced. Against a background of public spending restraint, a small tax reduction can be seen as an insurance policy against a much weaker economy next year. 相似文献

Legislative dissent has detrimental effects for both party and legislator, i.e., legislators depend on their party label for
re-election, which value in turn depends in part on the party’s reputation of cohesiveness. Commonly dissent has been attributed
to “extreme” preferences. I provide an informational rationale for dissent. Costly dissent allows the legislator to credibly
signal information about his constituency’s preferences to the Cabinet. As a result the Cabinet can better calibrate its policies
with the electorate’s preferences. Dissent is shown to depend on policy preferences as well a the legislators’ electoral strength,
electoral volatility, and the cost of dissent. Finally, the results suggests that parties may sometimes benefit from tolerating
some level of dissent.

The purpose of this research is to review and analyze in a systematic manner the current research published in peer-reviewed international scientific journals on the backshoring of manufacturing. We identify 20 articles published from 2009 to early 2016. We classify and discuss the literature according to publication year, research methodology, industry type, and firm size. Using content analysis, we identify 25 factors that are relevant for backshoring decision-making and categorize them into seven clusters that influence the decision to move manufacturing back. These clusters are: cost, quality, time and flexibility, access to skills and knowledge, risks, market, and other factors. Further, we provide a research agenda for further research on the phenomenon of moving manufacturing back. 相似文献

Green consumer behaviour: an experimental analysis of willingness to pay for remanufactured products
Products' end‐of‐life management has recently become a critical business issue. One of the possible end‐of‐life strategies is remanufacturing, which can provide competitive advantages through material and energy savings. Beyond industrial organization challenges, there is a question about the interest of developing a green marketing strategy for remanufactured products. Indeed, remanufactured products can be considered as green products since their industrial process has environmental benefits. Our paper asks whether consumers are willing to pay for remanufactured products, especially when they are informed that these products are ‘green’. We use experimental auctions to elicit consumers' WTP for specific characteristics of remanufactured products. Our study indicates that consumers tend to value the remanufactured product less than the conventional one unless they are informed about their respective environmental impacts. We find no evidence that consumers are willing to pay a premium for the green (i.e. remanufactured) product. However, providing environmental information to consumers has an effect on their WTP for the conventional product: they generally decrease significantly their WTP for the conventional (and thus most polluting) product. This paper provides a new comparative analysis of pooled least squares and fixed effects (FE) estimators of the slope coefficients in the case of panel data models when the time dimension (T) is fixed while the cross section dimension (N) is allowed to increase without bounds. The individual effects are allowed to be correlated with the regressors, and the comparison is carried out in terms of an exponent coefficient, δ, which measures the degree of pervasiveness of the FE in the panel. The use of δ allows us to distinguish between poolability of small N dimensional panels with large T from large N dimensional panels with small T. It is shown that the pooled estimator remains consistent so long as δ<1, and is asymptotically normally distributed if δ<1/2, for a fixed T and as N→∞. It is further shown that when δ<1/2, the pooled estimator is more efficient than the FE estimator. We also propose a Hausman type diagnostic test of δ<1/2 as a simple test of poolability, and propose a pretest estimator that could be used in practice. Monte Carlo evidence supports the main theoretical findings and gives some indications of gains to be made from pooling when δ<1/2. 相似文献

This paper illustrates the significance of employing data analysis together with standard econometric techniques. A detailed analysis of the same data base used by Tobin (1950), Chetty (1968) and Maddala (1971) indicates (i) the existence of two outliers, and (ii) the presence of serially correlated residuals. In the last three decades, research studies investigating how individuals recognize entrepreneurial opportunities have advanced rapidly and have become a key topic in the modern entrepreneurship literature. To advance this important concern further, we present a systematic literature review of the entrepreneurial opportunity research field and its status. Contrary to conventional wisdom, this research suggests that the field is fragmented and empirically underdeveloped. A comprehensive literature analysis shows that only a handful of authors have contributed specifically to developing dialogues related to opportunity recognition and that the topic is considered primarily as an ancillary issue by many authors and academic journals. Based on analyzing 180 articles, we classify existing contributions into six influential factors: prior knowledge, social capital, cognition/personality traits, environmental conditions, alertness, and systematic search. Moreover, by developing a framework, we communicate critical insights regarding the opportunity recognition process. The contribution of individual articles to the proposed factors is presented in a research synthesis table. We conclude by presenting several directions for future research related to opportunity recognition. 相似文献
