ePhilanthropy: using the Internet to build support

For nonprofit organisations the Internet represents an unprecedented and highly cost‐effective opportunity to build and enhance relationships with supporters, volunteers, clients and the community they serve. As ePhilanthropy has emerged, organisations have discovered that consistent and deliberate e‐mail communication that drives traffic to the organisation's well‐organised and informative website has become the key to success. Charities should approach the Internet as a communication and stewardship tool first and a fundraising tool second. <正>通过优化物业小区的法治环境,明确各方主体的权、责、利是构建和谐物业管理环境的基础。党的十八届四中全会通过了《中共中央关于全面推进依法治国若干重大问题的决定》并提出,将每年12月4日定为国家宪法日。在首个国家宪法日,笔者所产生的思考就是:如何将法治思维与平常的物业管理工作相结合,使物业服务企业的服务质量有保障、业主的生活品质有提高,二者的关系能真正做到如鱼水之情,从而构建和谐的物业管理新环境。     

Examining academic Internet use using a combined method

Since the inception of the Internet in South Korea, the Internet has become an important medium for information and communication among collegians due to its complete integration into everyday school lives. This study examines the scholarly use and role of advanced computer and communications technologies in general and the Internet in particular via an open-ended, qualitative survey among Korean university students. Through word frequency analysis and semantic mapping, this paper identifies the key issues in academic Internet use. In addition to information science methods, content analysis is used to investigate the attitudinal and behavior dimensions in scholarly Internet use. The results are expected to enable professors and policymakers to target populations who underutilize the educational potential of Internet technologies and to design e-learning programs for such students.

Examining relationships between director leadership practices and manager worklife and burnout

Managers are subject to high stress and burnout in their demanding roles, so addressing their worklife and level of burnout is important to retain leadership in healthcare organizations. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the observed leadership style of directors and the worklife and burnout of healthcare managers. A secondary analysis of data from 176 leaders in five different managerial cohorts within a provincial cancer agency was conducted using multiple regression and MANCOVA analysis. The study used data collected from the Worklife Improvement and Leadership Development study in 2006, the Kouzes and Posner Leadership Practices Inventory, the Maslach Burnout Inventory, and the Areas of Worklife Survey. Findings indicate the importance of transformational leadership styles to empower managers. Directors may improve the worklife of managers by using transformational leadership practices to address the amount of control and appropriateness of rewards to positively influence the job satisfaction of managers.

Vritz Redlich (1892–1978) played a leading role in the development of the analytic approach in history and in establishing the new institutional history that combines entrepreneurial and business historv and sociology. A member, in economics , of the German historical school, he spent 16 years in the chemical industry before the triumph of Nazism forced him to emigrate from Germany in 1936. After teaching at various colleges until 1942, he spent the rest of his life doing research in the libraries of Harvard University , producing several notable works in economic history , including a classical study of American banking, and pioneering in entrepreneurial history.

Examining the effects of leadership development on firm performance

The purpose of the current study was to identify the constructs that affect leadership development in an organization and investigate the impact of leadership development on firm performance. Using structural equation modeling, the study showed a positive relationship between differentiation strategies and leadership development. No relationship was found between environmental dynamism and leadership development or organizational size and leadership development. The positive impact of leadership development on firm performance, as measured through financial and market outcomes, was validated.     

The role of market research for charities: Identifying target groups and developing successful relationships

No one can find friends by sitting at home, and no relationship can develop without plenty of interaction between the people involved. However, charities with large numbers of donors and volunteers cannot be expected to have day-to-day contact with more than a handful of their key supporters. This paper illustrates how market research can be used by charities as the conduit between charities and their supporters — not only to show how the relationship between the two sides can be developed to best effect, but also to identify the most appropriate target groups to find new support.     

打造廉洁文化建设和谐企业

烟台电网位于山东电网东部,与山东主网和威海电网相连。烟台供电公司是山东电力集团公司直属国有大一型供电企业,承担着烟台市所辖13个县市区的供用电任务。公司拥有43座35千伏以上的变电站,109条总长1910公里的输电线路,变电总容量达598.38万千伏安。2006年公司完成售电量135.68亿千瓦时,同比增长12.60%,实现连续安全生产2472天,基本满足了烟台市经济快速发展的需求。

Examining the effect of managing GHG emissions on business performance

Unprecedented climate changes menace not only the planetary ecosystem, but also the stability of the global economy. The European Union has for years promoted the transition of the economy towards a model of sustainable development, stimulating companies to adopt a strategic approach based on quality and environmental efficiency, rather than on quantity and reduction of costs. The aim of this study is to analyze how greater attention to the environmental effects of a company's activities (environmental management) and monitoring and reduction of CO₂ emissions (emission management) can improve the company's economic performance. We analyze the financial data and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission figures for a sample of large Italian companies, searching for potential relations between increasing returns on capital invested and the reduction of pollutants. The results show that the companies examined are ever more attentive to environmental policies, and that those with a green vision achieve better operating performance. 本文首先利用GSM短信息实现了185邮政呼叫中心与投递人员、物流配送人员之间的信息交换;随着短信息业务向移动支付、移动证券交易等金融领域的扩展,对短信息的安全性提出了新的要求,为此,本文在ElGamal体制公开密钥加密算法的基础上,针对短信息系统自身的特点,提出了一种比较适用于短消息系统的加密方案并给出了实验和结果分析。

Irrational decision making: Cultural influence on environmental nonprofit organizations' advocacy strategies

The determinants of environmental nonprofit organizations' (ENPOs) advocacy strategies is particularly important in East Asian countries, such as Taiwan, in which the public values harmony and aggressive movements are often controversial because of the influence of Confucianism. What triggers ENPOs in Taiwan to initiate aggressive environmental protests is consequently a question worth investigating. Accordingly, this study sought answers to the unasked question: How do ENPOs' decision makers decide what types of advocacy activities to pursue? To answer this question, this study utilized cultural theory (CT) to develop hypotheses to test data collected through an online survey in Taiwan. The evidence confirms what CT predicted. ENPOs' decision making on advocacy activities is neither affected by their organizational scale/resources nor the effectiveness and acceptance of environmental activities. Instead, ENPOs' organizational culture plays a crucial role, especially in explaining advocacy activities that are relatively controversial and less accepted by the Taiwanese public. ENPOs that have egalitarian and individualistic organizational cultures are more likely to initiate every type of environmental activity, especially protest-based activities. Based on the results, organizational culture may be useful in explaining the bounded rationality behind decision making. This result also indicates that ENPOs in Taiwan should plan more carefully before initiating activities. Actions without careful planning may result in resource waste and legitimacy challenges. The results of this study can be beneficial for ENPOs to reconsider their decision making regarding environmental advocacy.
