Exchange rate exposure: A nonparametric approach

The typical conclusion reached when researchers examine exchange rate exposure is that only a few firms are exposed. This finding is puzzling since institutional knowledge and theory suggests a larger effect. In this paper, we compare results obtained using a linear approach with those from nonlinear and nonparametric models. Among firms that don't have a linear exposure, we find that a considerable proportion of these are exposed when nonlinear or nonparametric models are used. This exposure is most striking when a nonparametric model is used. We also find that firms' hedging activities decrease linear exposure but don't affect nonparametric exposure.

Standard Format for the Case Analysis of Moral Problems

I have always been disappointed with the class discussion of cases that depict large and important moral problems. My students don't get down to the essential issues. They propose unworkable alternatives. And, worst of all in my view, they argue from personal opinions, not from ethical principles. To counter those problems I prepared this standardized format. I hand out copies each time I assign a major case, and members of the class are required to fill in the blanks and hand back the forms, for grading. The result is that the quality of the case discussions in my classes has improved dramatically. Hopefully this standardized format approach will work equally well for others.

Identifying Success Factors for Rapid Growth in SME E-commerce

With high unemployment rates and major companies downsizing, SME policy has started to move centre stage. The small business job-creation thesis can be traced to David Birch, who placed great emphasis on the job generation process of very rapidly growing businesses he termed Gazelles: "In fact most firms don't grow. Gazelles do. And that is only 3% of all small companies." This paper focuses on the baby gazelles of the Internet economy. It looks at critical success factors that fast growing E-commerce ventures need to take into account in the start-up phase. Based on the results of the EU project KITE, the article demonstrates links between critical success factors, and highlights the competitive advantage deriving from the application of a certain critical success factor. It will compare the critical success factors identified for high growth E-commerce ventures in the start-up phase in KITE with research into the success of high growth companies in general.

跨国外包的承接对我国工业行业技术进步的影响——基于我国工业行业面板数据的实证分析

本文运用我国20个行业的面板数据就跨国外包对我国工业行业技术进步的影响进行了实证分析,发现跨国外包对我国工业技术进步的影响存在"门槛效应",跨国外包会阻碍未超过发展门槛行业的技术进步,会促进超过发展门槛的劳动密集型行业和资本密集型行业的技术进步,但跨国外包对我国资本密集型行业技术进步的促进作用要远大于对超过发展门槛的劳动密集型行业技术进步的促进作用。

城市流动人口居留意愿研究——基于上海、苏州等地的调查分析

以上海市普陀区、苏州市流动人口问卷调查数据为依据,采用统计分析方法,对流动人口居留意愿的特点、流动人口居留意愿的影响因素以及户籍制度对流动人口居留意愿的影响进行了研究。经济因素对流动人口的居留意愿并没有显著的影响,社会因素的影响更加显著,其中社会融合因素与居留意愿正相关,家乡联系与居留意愿呈负相关关系;从制度因素来看,户籍制度对流动人口居留意愿有一定的影响,表现在它改变了一部分流动人口的居留意愿。     

政府推动企业实施逆向物流的委托-代理问题

目前,我国企业逆向物流开展不好的主要原因是企业不重视,政府管制不利,消费者环保意识不强。政府应根据委托-代理基本理论,认真发挥委托人作用,并将激励和监督机制纳入报酬合同中,加大监督推动力度,使逆向物流活动更好开展,从而提高整个社会的经济效益和环境效益。     

析绿色壁垒对我国对外贸易经济的宏观影响

信托财产权新探——兼谈信托的所有权问题

我国加工贸易与环境污染的因果关系检验

文章利用1980-2007年我国加工贸易出口额和环境污染(以工业三废排放量为代表)的数据进行了加工贸易出口额增长与环境污染加剧的因果关系检验。结果表明:随着加工贸易量的增大,工业废水污染增加,工业废气污染存在不确定性,工业固体废弃物污染不会随之增加。可见,加工贸易与环境污染的关系复杂,需要对其分别进行深入研究。
