This article discusses teleworking from a legal perspective. Although spreading rapidly, the many legal aspects of teleworking are under‐represented in the literature. The main issues covered in this article are the definition of teleworking, employment relationships and employment contracts, civil liability, and other legal considerations. This paper studies the differences of firm resources between teleworking firms and non-teleworking firms. The results indicate that teleworking firms use more information and communication technologies, invest more resources in R&D, have a larger percentage of knowledge workers and salespeople in the workforce, and have a larger geographical market. The employees have greater access to the Internet and electronic communication, are more trained in the use of information and communication technologies, and are more involved in their job design and planning. Regarding the business organisation, teleworking firms use more human resource flexible practices and variable compensation, outsource more activities, and manage employees by objectives. 相似文献

Despite inpatriates' growing importance for the scope of international business, research on this specific group of international assignees transferred to the corporate headquarters (HQ) of multinational corporations (MNCs) still remains in its infancy. Due to this research gap, a qualitative approach to the analysis of inpatriates' experiences was selected to uncover directions for subsequent research and derive factors that are relevant in the context of these cross-cultural assignments. This paper reports the results of exploratory interviews with 13 inpatriates assigned to the HQ of three German MNCs. The interviews explored the purpose of inpatriate assignments in MNCs and focused on identifying critical dimensions to assess their success. In addition, the relevance of individuals' cultural background and other factors that may impact on assignment outcomes were examined. The empirical results are instrumental in deriving two major research questions that may guide future research in the field of inpatriate assignments. 相似文献

AbstractWhile a substantial theoretical and empirical literature has examined compulsory local government consolidation, little is known about de-amalgamation after forced mergers. Following the controversial 2008 Queensland local government amalgamation programme, which saw a radical reduction in the number of local councils, four forcibly merged councils have finally begun to de-amalgamate following successful plebiscites. This paper traces the extraordinary Queensland de-amalgamation process from its inception and attempts to place it in a broader conceptual framework. The paper provides a critical assessment of Queensland de-amalgamation policy development and implementation and seeks to draw broader public policy lessons for structural reform in local government. 相似文献

Until recently, evaluations of technology policy were rare in the Federal Republic of Germany. Activities of this type on a larger scale were not started until the early eighties. Most of the evaluations performed concerned government incentives for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). The main areas of research and development (R & D) and innovation promotion in small and medium-sized firms are the improvement of the capability and propensity to do in-house R & D, intensified cooperation in R & D between industrial firms and research establishments, the provision of more venture capital, and improved technology transfer. The underlying assumption is that these firms have bottlenecks, in particular in financing, in the personnel sector, and in obtaining information. A number of the existing support programs has meanwhile been investigated; the results of these investigations are covered in this paper. Initially, the underlying concept of impact analysis is outlined. Next, examples are presented of evaluations of general R & D funding measures, of grants for specific projects, of the debate about the most suitable instruments of promoting R & D in SME, and of technology transfer. Finally, some implications arising from the results of these analyses for technology policy in the Federal Republic of Germany are discussed. 相似文献

- This study investigated differing emphasis cricket spectators place on key game experience variables. Spectators were classified based on membership, frequency of attendance and demographics. The mixed methods designs used a qualitative strand, which identified four key game experience variables; star players, quality of game, social facilitation and auditory and olfactory elements. The quantitative strand was used to empirically test these game experience variables. This survey of 584 cricket spectators identified auditory and olfactory elements, quality of game, and social facilitation as the three important game experience variables relevant to various cricket spectator segments. The findings revealed that women, members, older spectators and moderately frequent attendees placed greater emphasis on auditory and olfactory. Older spectators and members also placed greater emphasis on quality of game. It was also found that regardless of how frequently spectators attend games, they placed equal emphasis on social facilitation.
- In this exploratory study, tentative light is shed on the largely unexplored subject of cricket spectator consumption experience. As such it helps provide practitioners in the industry as well as researchers with a better understanding of cricket spectators.

In evaluations of forecasting accuracy, including forecasting competitions, researchers have paid attention to the selection of time series and to the appropriateness of forecast-error measures. However, they have not formally analyzed choices in the implementation of out-of-sample tests, making it difficult to replicate and compare forecasting accuracy studies. In this paper, I (1) explain the structure of out-of-sample tests, (2) provide guidelines for implementing these tests, and (3) evaluate the adequacy of out-of-sample tests in forecasting software. The issues examined include series-splitting rules, fixed versus rolling origins, updating versus recalibration of model coefficients, fixed versus rolling windows, single versus multiple test periods, diversification through multiple time series, and design characteristics of forecasting competitions. For individual time series, the efficiency and reliability of out-of-sample tests can be improved by employing rolling-origin evaluations, recalibrating coefficients, and using multiple test periods. The results of forecasting competitions would be more generalizable if based upon precisely described groups of time series, in which the series are homogeneous within group and heterogeneous between groups. Few forecasting software programs adequately implement out-of-sample evaluations, especially general statistical packages and spreadsheet add-ins. 相似文献

Although the high-tech sector in developed countries is well understood, there are considerable gaps in our knowledge about the high-tech sector in developing countries. This study addresses questions about the nature of high tech in Tunisia and about factors associated with information and communications technology (ICT) firms’ success as examples of the high-tech sector. The literature identifies the key characteristics of the sector to be human capital, access to appropriate finance and supporting institutions to provide synergy. Thus we address these factors to establish if they have led to success in Tunisian ICT high tech. We surveyed 60 Tunisian ICT firms and employing a multiple component analysis, supported by a multinomial LOGIT analysis, we found that research and development was negatively associated with firm success. This, we argue, indicates the early stage of high-tech development. Our findings also suggest a subordinate role in the global value chain.The paper concludes with some observations and recommendations. 相似文献

Determinants of migration, including policy variables such as tax rates, have been extensively studied by regional scientists over the past several decades. The development of the Economic Freedom of North America Index has allowed researchers to test the relationship between migration patterns and economic freedom, with recent studies finding that net in-migration is positively related to economic freedom. Using a new cross-section measure of economic and personal freedom at the state level, we investigate the relationship between gross in-migration and economic freedom on the one hand and then between gross in-migration and total freedom on the other hand. This empirical study of domestic U.S. migration during the post-Great Recession period finds clear evidence that migrants prefer to move to those states affording higher levels of economic freedom and higher levels of total freedom. 相似文献

AbstractIt is well established that many HR practices aimed at increasing employees’ psychological wellbeing (PWB) and organisational performance conflict and even contradict one another. We address this long-standing issue by undertaking an innovative integrative literature review using the paradox metatheory as a lens. Unlike the contingency approach, a paradox perspective deems real-world tensions as normal, which can also be harnessed, and benefit employees and the organisation. We make three contributions; firstly, we identify contradictory employee PWB and organisational performance HR practices; secondly, we offer a solution in addressing the inherent tension between PWB and organisational performance by developing a new sensemaking conceptual framework; and thirdly, we offer a more nuanced perspective of prevailing arguments by distinguishing endogenous factors that organisations can influence to enhance the synergies between employee PWB and organisational performance HR practices. The intended impact of this paper is to instigate a paradigm shift and shape a new trajectory of thinking about how employee PWB and organisational performance practices can exist side-by-side. 相似文献
