Economic crises and unemployment in Russia

This article considers changes in the number of unemployed individuals in conjunction with the dynamics of the production volume in Russia in 1991–2015. An assessment has been given for the quantitative relationship between crisis declines in production and the number of unemployed individuals. Long-term trends determining the dynamics of unemployment under the effect of direct factors of economic growth (labor resources, fixed capital, and scientific and technical progress) have been analyzed.     

Problems of food security in Russia

The principal problems of food security in the Russian Federation are reviewed in the article. Significant attention is paid to the analysis of the existing material and technical base of the agriculture, the location and specialization of the regions, energy conservation, and import substitution.     

Recovery of economic growth in Russia

The presented paper of the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences analyzes key macroeconomic and financial measures of contemporary Russian anticrisis policy, substantiates the main directions of growth recovery in the basic sectors of the economy and social sphere in the medium and long term, and considers the features of the regional economic growth recovery policy.     

Modern approach to the food security of Russia

This article considers problems such as the definition of food security and the inclusion of food independence in this concept. The conclusion has been drawn that there have been no major threats to the Russian market from the global food market. Alternative definitions and classifications of the standing of the agricultural foods system have been suggested.     

Problems and prospects of special economic zones in Russia

This article provides an evaluation of the efficiency of special economic zones in Russia for the 10 years since their establishment. An analysis of the possible courses of their development has been given. Approaches to models of SEZ administration and financing have been reconsidered.     

Influence of oil prices on stock market indexes in Russia and Norway

The effects of oil price dynamics on share quotations are discussed in the paper for the 2000–2012 period for two oil exporting countries—Russia and Norway. It has been shown, using a vector autoregressive model, that, in spite of intuitive expectations, oil prices have not been a systematic risk factor for Russian and Norwegian stock market indices. In Norway, share quotations definitely responded to the dynamics of the US dollar exchange rate relative to the world’s main currencies and the S&P 500 stock index, as well as to fluctuations in the global and domestic interest rates, although to a lesser degree. In Russia, share quotations are practically exclusively affected by their own shocks (a factor that is explained by some specific features characterizing Russia’s major public companies).     

Some features of economic and financial crises in the course of global integration

Based on an analysis of some of the largest financial crises of the last two decades, the author concludes that crises are rooted in advance regulation miscalculations of monetary authorities and their lack of competence in pursuing a responsible macroeconomic policy. Equally important is financial markets’ ingenuity in creating new instruments, interpreting accounting principles, etc. In closing, several financial market indicators are described, which can help with estimating the degree of crisis threat to a particular national financial market. The article is based on the 2008 data.

Services as part of modern economic process in Russia

This paper deals with reasons and circumstances of the new emerging structure of the Russian economy at the turn of the century, expressed in the substantial growth of the share of services in the GDP. Those changes have both positive and negative influences on the Russian economic conditions and domestic reproductive performance in the period of transformation and are analyzed here. Based on cross-country comparisons, the authors estimate the adequacy of upcoming structural shifts for the real condition the national economy under the hypothetical assumption that it actually functions according to free-market principles.     

Forecasting financial crises with the help of economic indicators in the CIS countries

Based on probit modeling, outstripping economic indicators for forecasting financial crises in the CIS countries are identified. The obtained results can be used by public authorities to monitor the financial instability of the economy and timely respond.     

Social and economic development of Russia: an analysis and a forecast

The article contemplates the main trends of the socio-economic development of Russia, which have prevailed in recent years. The factors which cause the slowing the country’s economic dynamics are identified and described. The tasks for the long-term development of Russia are formulated. The issues concerning the actual and desired rate of economic growth are considered. Estimates of the resources required to implement the tasks above are revealed. Measures to increase the rate and quality of economic growth in Russia are proposed.     

Formation of an investment model of economic development of Russia

The article describes approaches to assessing the role of the mechanism of investment development of economic. An analysis of the characteristics of the investment process in Russia in the 2000s–2010s has been conducted. The possibilities of eliminating the identified imbalances by improving investment policy of the government have been considered. Particular attention has been paid to the problems of forming models of the investment development of Russian economy in the medium term.

This study traces the dynamics of production, challenges in the formation of value added and resources reproduction in Russian agriculture during the transition period of 1990–2014.     

Twenty years of economic transition in Russia: Results and lessons learned

The present article studies the events and processes that took place during the socioeconomic transformation in Russia. The positive and negative consequences of the reforms are considered, and their macroeconomic results are assessed. The article reveals the causes of the weak points in the present-day Russian economy and focuses on mistakes and wrong solutions that should be avoided in the future.     

Forecast of economic growth in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine within the unified economic space

The paper presents new approaches to integration processes in the post-Soviet space using a model of cross-country structural interactions.     

Assessment and forecast of the technological risks of long-term economic growth in Russia

The article discusses the current state of production facilities and infrastructure and provides a detailed assessment of their development and depreciation. It is emphasized that it is appropriate to consider the underfunding of this area of the economy, including the subsequent high accident rate and the increase in technological risks, as a set of socioeconomic (investment) debts. An assessment of these debts is given. The trends of technological risks of the economic growth and options for an investment maneuver to address the accumulated socioeconomic debts and reduce economic risks are considered in the context of two basic scenarios of economic development for the period 2011–2030.     

Scenarios of Russia’s economic development: a fifteen-year outlook

Long-term growth factors of the Russian economy are discussed. Risks and conditions of maintaining high growth rates, based on exploiting competitive advantages, are analyzed. Four possible scenarios of long-term development, which reflect different combinations of key growth factors, are defined.
