ABSTRACT   Though many studies have examined post-acquisition integration challenges, they have mainly focused on rationalistic explanations for the difficulties encountered in post-acquisition integration. There remains little knowledge of how the 'irrational' features of post-acquisition decision-making may impede organizational integration. This study attempts to bridge that gap by examining post-acquisition decision-making from a sensemaking perspective. The paper presents an in-depth analysis of a merger between a large Finnish furniture manufacturer and three smaller Swedish furniture companies. By focusing on the sensemaking processes surrounding integration issues, we uncover four interrelated tendencies that illuminate why the frequent problem of slow progress during post-acquisition integration occurs: inherent ambiguity concerning integration issues; cultural confusion in social interaction and communication; organizational hypocrisy in integration decision-making; and the politicization of integration issues.  相似文献

Abstract

High performing organizations are using analytics for evidence-based decision-making. However, the human resource (HR) function in many organizations has been slow to adopt this innovation. This study applies innovation theory, informed by the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), to examine the individual’s decision to adopt HR Analytics in an effort to identify why the adoption rate is lagging. We examined early stages of the individual decision process beginning from Stage 1 (knowledge) and leading to Stage 3, (the decision) to adopt or not to adopt the innovation. We found several points in the process that can act as barriers or facilitators. Organizations and champions of this innovation wishing to facilitate HR analytics adoption can take action to remove as many of these barriers to the individual’s decision as possible. Further research should focus on the best way to remove these barriers.  相似文献

在针对决策方法选择对企业集团投资的重要性上,本文主要阐述了企业集团投资决策方法的发展趋势。企业集团投资决策过程中所遵循的决策准则表现为多元化和核心性,更加突出了决策方法的战略性要求;而未来的企业集团投资决策方法,其主流趋势仍旧是以项目评价为基础。不以现金流量为基础的评价方法完善了传统投资决策方法,而且定性与定量方法相结合的趋势将企业集团投资管理推向了更高的发展阶段,使投资决策方法逐渐地向模拟化发展。  相似文献

通过对影响邮政网点优化的评价指标进行赋值,用熵确定权重,引入综合效果测度矩阵,从而优化决策。实例部分对模型作了进一步的评析应用,也验证了该模型在实际操作中的可行性。此模型提供的决策方法客观可靠,对经济管理中的多目标问题决策有一定的借鉴意义。  相似文献

The theory of scientific decision-making is a well developed and coherent discipline, which may be expected to have had some impact on the decision-making processes employed by actual firms. This paper reports the results of a survey of engineering firms in South Wales, and casts some doubt on the hypothesis that advances in decision analysis have had a descernible impact on the practice of business. Moreover, the primary reason for this lack of impact appears to be that decision analysis is not perceived as relevant to the decision-making needs of managers. The paper concludes with some suggestion for overcoming this obstacle to the application of decision analysis.  相似文献

This study investigates the direct and indirect effects of financial participation (FP) and participation in decision-making (PDM) on employee job attitudes. The central premise is that both financial participation and participation in decision-making have effects on job attitudes, such as integration, involvement and commitment, perceived pay equity, performance-reward contingencies, satisfaction and motivation. After reviewing the theoretical and empirical literature and testing two theoretical frameworks, developed by Long (1978a) and Florkowski (1989), a new model was constructed to consider a combined effects of both FP and PDM, herein referred to as employee participation (EP). The underpinning of the model is based on the assumption that both (a) the combination of financial participation and participation in decision-making (‘employee participation’), and (b) participation in decision-making produce favourable effects on employee job attitudes. The test of the new model showed that employee participation does not produce more favourable effects on employee job attitudes, than does participation in decision-making on its own. The data were gathered from a questionnaire study administered in a large British retail organization that operates two types of ownership schemes – profit-sharing and SAYE schemes.  相似文献

One aspect of turnover decision-making that turnover models have not adequately considered is the risk associated with quitting one's job and the potential that research on risky decision-making has for advancing understanding of turnover. We define risk and present turnover as a risky decision; review previous applications of risk in turnover theory; review literature on decision-making under risk as it applies to turnover; integrate these literatures and provide propositions. Our analysis suggests that individual differences, frames of reference, the decision context, and social influences affect perceptions of the risk associated with quitting as well as the willingness to take risks in this particular situation. The implications of turnover risk perceptions and turnover risk propensity for turnover theory and research are discussed.  相似文献

This article examines the potential impact of qualified majority voting on decision-making within the EU. It draws on the experience of US federalism, Germany under Bismarck and the UK in the European Union. In each case, it is shown that geographical majorities (nations, states or regions) have used majority decision-making as a means of increasing their rivals' costs. It is argued that to prevent such behaviour in the future in the EU, the proposed Constitutional Treaty should raise, not lower, the decision-making quorum.  相似文献

随着中国经济飞速发展和市场竞争的加剧,许多企业为生存及发展壮大,逐步探索走多元化之路。本文根据多元化理论和能力键理论,通过对辽宁成大的多元化发展之路进行剖析发现:企业在专业化领域发展积累到一定程度时,进行适度的多元化扩张可以有效分散经营风险,为企业创造新的利润增长点;但是多元化并非无止境,必须把握一定的度,否则会丧失原本专业化经营的业绩优势。研究表明,企业要想成功实施多元化战略,多元化战略的时机选择与能力配备缺一不可。首先要在专业领域有所建树,其次才是有限多元化,且在多元化战略实施过程中必须注重培养企业风险控制能力、跨行业投资决策能力以及保证多元化经营的资本运作能力,从而提高企业经营系统的安全性,避免因多元化扩张导致自身骼入经营困境。  相似文献

This paper expands current knowledge of location decision-making under uncertainty by analyzing instances where the corporate goal of profit maximization diverges from the managerial decision-maker's goal of maximizing personal profit. With illustrations based on alternative decision-making criteria, the paper demonstrates that a corporate manager acting in his own self interest may select a plant site that does not maximize corporate profits. The trend for US corporations to select suburban locations, despite the cost advantages of older urban areas, is illustrative of this divergence between the objectives of ownership and management.  相似文献

长期以来广泛应用的以货币的时间价值为着眼点的投资决策方法,暗含了管理者只能被动的拒绝或接受某投资项目的假设,或者说忽略了管理者的存在和作用,这显然与现实不符。用金融领域中的期权二项树理论,提出项目最佳投资时机的期权决策法,使企业作出的关于项目最佳投资时机的决策更加有效、合理;企业可以据此决定在什么情况下应该推迟对项目进行投资,在什么情况下应该立即投资。  相似文献

The thrust of the theory of preference aggregation is that it is impossible to design institutions guaranteeing collective decisions that are both consistent and fair. Proponents of deliberative democracy have used this as an argument for decision-making based on dialogue rather than voting. Communicative public planning - producing plans through public participation exercises - is seen as an integral part of deliberative democracy. It is argued here, however, that the inclusive dialogue of this style of planning cannot promise escape from arbitrariness and does not necessarily deliver improved local decision-making.  相似文献
