REMINISCENCES OF THE PAST——WORKING FOR CHINA'S FOREIGN TRADE

In December 1958, the China Council forthe Promotion of InternationalTrade(CCPIT) established its PublicityDepartment. Its task was to take over themagazine China's Foreign Trade, transferredfrom the Ministry of Foreign Trade. Ms. LuJiyin held the post of department head, and Iwas transferred from the post of the ResearchDepartment Commissioner to that of thePublicity Department Commissioner to assisther in her work. The magazine China's Foreign Tradewas originally established in 1956 by thePropaganda Section under the General Officeof the Ministry of Foreign Trade. Chinese steel mills turn to more imported iron ore

China＇s steel industry overestimated the country＇s demand for iron ore and as a result imported a record high amount of the material in March. A surge of domestic steel output and price increases in the beginning of 2009 raised market expectations. Many domestic steel mills and traders increased orders for iron ore in February and March as they anticipated demand would continue growing, said Liang Shuhe, deputy-director with the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce （MOC）, at an industry conference in the port city of Tianjin on April 13.     

Canton Fair, New Functions Perform In the New Era——Interview with official of China Foreign Trade Center

Sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (formerly known as the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation), the Chinese Export Commodities Fair, or Canton Fair, is held in April and October every year in Canton city, Guangdong Province. All domestic general import and export companies, as well as their provincial branches, are welcomed to participate. The first Canton Fair was held in the spring of 1957. Many different industries and fields were represented there: rice, cooking oil, food, farming products, textiles, silk, light industry, crafts, the chemical industry, the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, hardware and ore-mining industry, mechanical industry, electrical industry, and non-ferrous metal smelting, to name a few. The Canton Fair has grown substantially over the last fifty years, and now it has earned itself a reputation as "China's No.1 Fair", and as "China's Most Traditional Fair". In October, 2006, Canton Fair is greeting the 100th Anniversary. The fair has made splendid achievements, especially since the early 1980's when the policy of reform and opening-up was implemented. Either in the developed countries or developing countries,the small and me- dium enterprises(SMEs)have been playing a significant role in promoting the tech- nological progress,employment,export, etc.Especially in the modern society with efficient development of knowledge and in- formation,which is making the production and business operation smaller and more dispersed,and with more family participa- tion as well,SMEs are becoming a more and more important force of the social and economic development. Although the SMEs have made very important contributions to the national economic development and the increase of employment,they are thirsty of more gov- ernment and social supports,especially for the overseas development.In order to meet the mission of promoting the SMEs development,the Ministry of Commerce has established Department for SMEs. In July,China's Foreign Trade inter- viewed Zhu Shuhai,Director of Depart- ment for SMEs,Trade Development Bu- reau,Ministry,of Commerce.

Moldova, Wine Hometown Eyes More Trade with China

The Republic of Moldova, a friendly country of China, is very developed in the wine industry. In 2005, the Moldova Embassy held the first Wine Festival in Beijing. H.E. lacovTIMCHlUK, Ambassador revealed to China's Foreign Trade that the festival would be held every year as a tradition in China. He showed a great optimism to the Moldova-China trade relations. Romanian Economic Mission Beijing-Harbin,China June 08-18,2007

CCPIT and Italian Trade Commission Sign Cooperation Memorandum——Italian Trade Commission Chairman awarded gold medal to CCPIT Chairman Wan Jifei

On November 29, 2006, CCPIT Chairman Wan Jifei and Chairman of Italian Trade Commission jointly signed the Memorandum of Cooperation. After the signature ceremony, Mr. Ambassador Umberto Vattani, President of Italian Trade Commission (ICE) awarded a gold medal to Mr. Wan Jifei, in order to praise the great contributions he has made in promoting the trade relations between China and Italy. He pointed out that the gold medal was just coined in three pieces and with great significance. Davide Cucino, Chairman of China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, and Italian Embassy officials participated in the signature ceremony. 2006 EU-China Partenariat:A Flagship Activity of EU-China Trade Development

QILU CONSTRUCTION GROUP CORPORATION——Honouring Contract and Guaranteeing Quality

The Qilu Construction Group Corporation (QCGC) is a large State-owned first grade enterprise set up with the approval of the Shandong Provincial People's Government. It is the province's only exportoriented corporation in the construction business that has been authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation to sign contracts on overseas engineering and labour services. The group
