We test for changes in liquidity around LEAPS option introduction and find two results that address important disputes in the literature. First, we find that the impact of LEAPS upon share liquidity does not occur until 23 days after the LEAPS are introduced. Our findings are in conflict with Danielsen et al.’s (J Financ Quant Anal 42:1041–1062, 2007) findings that liquidity improves before option introduction, and are consistent with the findings of Kumar et al. (J Finance 53:717–732, 1998). Second, we find that share volume increases before option introduction and so the volume increase can be predictive of option listing, but the shift in volume does not occur early enough to drive the exchange’s introduction decision. 相似文献

We study patterns of new lists, delisting and mergers in deregulated industries in the 1973 to 2017 period. Consistent with prior research, we find that merger activity tends to cluster in deregulated industries. But we provide new evidence that new lists and overall delisting also cluster in deregulated industries, with new lists preceding delisting. We also find that deregulated industries are growing in size and value prior to deregulation and grow significantly larger, more valuable and more competitive following deregulation. The results are consistent with the linkage of deregulation and industries undergoing significant change; deregulation aids in industry adaptation to change and facilitates expansion. Moreover, the results provide a specific mechanism by which industries undergo event waves. 相似文献

At the end of October 2003, there were 237 Chinese firms' listings on various stock exchanges outside of Mainland China. Beyond geographical proximity and other obvious explanations of why Chinese firms prefer listing in Hong Kong more than in the United States, we identify two additional benefits of a Hong Kong listing. We find that Chinese firms listed in Hong Kong have a better information environment than those listed solely in the United States. We also find that the Hong Kong-listed firms are less financially constrained, which may be due to their ability to access the Hong Kong capital market for external financing. The results of our study show that different stock markets offer different benefits as a listing venue and the benefits of foreign listing may depend on the choice of listing location. 相似文献
