The objective of the present study was to examine the effect of friendly food labels on packaged food consumption intention. A questionnaire method was adopted for data collection. The data were collected from 14 Pakistani universities. The systematic random sampling technique was used to draw the required sample size. The sample size was 365, where 730 questionnaires were distributed among students of 14 universities to achieve the required sample. Findings disclosed that a friendly food label has a positive and significant relation with packaged food consumption intention. But in the intervening effect of personality traits between exogenous and endogenous variables, only three personality traits have positive significant mediation—extraversion, conscientiousness, and openness—whereas no mediation was found with neuroticism and agreeableness. Studies have unveiled the fact that there is need to investigate the decisiveness of personality traits for the selection of healthy food (Friedman & Kern, 2014). 相似文献

Analysis of consumer reactions to food labeling alternatives using conjoint measurement raises questions concerning policy proposals to provide consumers with information. Conjoint measurement permits analysis of components of consumer perceptions without tedious data collection and analysis procedures. The study indicates that consumer preferences for information vary widely and an optimal policy should provide different labels for different market segments. Increasing the amount of information may reduce its effectiveness among the low income consumers it is intended to help. 相似文献

This study investigates Western Australia’s consumer attitudes toward and preferences for locally produced food products signified by a state-funded campaign logo, Buy West Eat Best (BWEB). A choice experiment using both a fresh and a processed food product (skinless chicken breast and fruit yogurt) is conducted to assess willingness to pay for a local production attribute and other label claims. We find that consumer awareness and preference for local foods is high. However, this high preference is not because the product is locally produced but because of the local attributes associated with high-quality products. The study highlights the importance of successfully differentiating products through credible labeling schemes in order to capture market premium. 相似文献

The authors surveyed consumers for preferences on allergen advisory statements on food labels (N = 1,243). They also conducted an experiment to assess how consumers use advisory statements (N = 4,049) to make food consumption decisions. Results show that food allergic individuals, including caregivers to food allergic individuals, and a control group of nonallergic people preferred “Allergen Information: May Contain …” over three other statements tested. The experiment revealed measurable differences among the statements in how they are used to make food consumption decisions. Statements rated as more believable and more helpful also received higher ratings on a “likelihood of eating/serving” measure. 相似文献

This article offers an economic rationale for national brands to provide private labels to their retailers. We build a game-theoretic
model that analyzes the interactions among two national brand manufacturers and one common retailer. In an interesting strategic
role, the private label mitigates the promotion competition between the two national brands and provides benefits for all
three members in the channel. Our analysis shows that offering a private label can be a credible commitment from a national
brand manufacturer that it will not engage in promotions and decrease the incentive of the national brand rival to engage
in promotions. In this way, we attempt to provide a reason for why national brand manufacturers provide retailers with private

Although previous research finds that participation in Food Stamp Programs increases the nutrient availability of low‐income households, examination of the dietary quality of parents, their teenagers (aged 13–18 years), and their children (aged 1–12 years) indicates that participation has no effect on dietary quality of any of these groups. Examination of data from the Continuing Survey of Food Intake by Individuals and Diet and Health Surveys, conducted in the USA, 1994–96, indicates that although transfer payments in the Food Stamp Program might improve quality of life in other areas by freeing income otherwise spent on food, the receipt of food assistance does not improve dietary quality. The findings show that children tend to eat healthier diets than their parents or teenage siblings. Implications are suggested regarding the use of transfer payments to improve the dietary quality of persons living in poverty. 相似文献

Korea, mandatory Food Traceability System (FTS) regulation on dietary supplements has been enforced since the end of 2014, which has allowed government to collect electronic data to trace food. The aim of this study was to determine which additional attributes of dietary food supplements are preferred by consumers and to assess the value of consumers’ willingness to pay (WTP) for these attributes. This investigation revealed that gender, age, income, and awareness were the most frequently reported drivers of purchase behavior. Gender was the most influential socioeconomic characteristic. The results of the conditional and random parameter logit model suggested that Korean consumers have the highest WTP for origin of all ingredients, followed by side-effect warnings, quality-related certifications, and date of import. It will be worthwhile to identify the value of relevant attributes once other nations establish FTS policies and improve food traceability services or regulations. 相似文献

Abstract Lower disposable income among Asian grocery shoppers, heavily discounted private label grocery brands, relative to national brands, and a favorable retail distribution structure would seem to predispose the former to success. But this has not been the case. To learn why private label grocery brands have not succeeded in Asia, two identical shopper surveys were conducted in Wichita, Kansas (United States) and Prakanong-Bangna, Bangkok (Thailand) to examine possible factors relating to retail grocery shopping differences. The authors found that poor market knowledge, and the tendency of Thai consumers to infer product quality by using extrinsic cues such as high price were salient. Additionally, Thai choices were influenced more by social factors than Americans, making them less prone to bargain hunting. The paper concludes with the discussion of managerial implications and offers recommendations to retail chain owners operating in the region. 相似文献

This article aims at identifying the factors that affect consumers' intentions of buying private label frozen vegetables, developing a related research model, and testing this model using quantitative data from a consumers' sample in Greece. This study examines the effects of dietary information on women's whole and low‐fat milk intakes. The sample is 1928 female meal planners aged 20 years or over who provided information on their milk intake for 2 days in the 1994–96 Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals and who completed the 1994–96 Diet and Health Knowledge Survey in the follow‐up interview. The nested Tobit model was used to handle the sequentially censored data. Women's dietary information contributed to reduced whole milk consumption and increased low‐fat milk consumption indicating different effects on whole milk and low‐fat milk consumption. 相似文献
