This paper considers the effect of monopoly-promoting export cartels on domestic production. It is argued that export cartels facilitate tacit collusion by monitoring defections more efficiently. This slackens the incentive constraint of tacit collusion. Optimizing firms competing both in the domestic and export markets will often use the increased possibility for collusion in both markets. If the markets are not too different or there is constant returns to scale this is the case.  相似文献

Using a rich data set of Chilean exporters, we analyse several issues regarding the relationship between entry into export markets and product quality. We find that every year, a large number of new exporting relationships are initiated, but the survival rate of these entries is very low and declines over time. Using unit values as a proxy for product quality, our estimations show that entry is generally associated with higher product quality. This higher quality, however, tends to reduce over time and eventually disappears three years after entry. In addition, our evidence suggests that the positive relationship between entry and quality is more prevalent in new exporters. To better identify this effect, we explore whether there are systematic differences across sectors. As expected, for sectors in which quality differentiation may be important, our findings reveal that reference‐price and differentiated products show a higher price in the year of entry and a longer convergence to incumbent prices. These results hold after controlling for potential sample selection bias.  相似文献

Purpose: Drawing on the relationship marketing perspective, this study explores the effects of interorganizational relationship variables on export market orientation (EMO), in turn enhancing the export performance. Furthermore, firm internationalization was included as a moderator between export market-oriented behavior and export performance.

Methodology: The authors tested the hypotheses via a mail survey involving 235 exporting firms. LISREL and regression analysis were used to test the proposed model.

Findings: The results support the hypotheses, which posit that commitment, trust, and social interaction are positively related to EMO behavior, whereas power is negatively related to such behavior. Second, firm EMO behavior is positively related to export performance. Third, the degree of internationalization strengthens the effect of EMO on export performance.

Research implications: This study improves existing theoretical understanding by supporting the relationship marketing perspective and international channel research for performing export market-oriented behaviors.

Practical implications: The leverage of interorganizational relationships appears a solid strategy for performing export market-oriented behaviors. Exporters can focus not only on export market-oriented behaviors being performed but also on expansion to new markets.

Originality/value: This study contributes to the marketing and international business literature and provides insights to exporters by examining the relationships among interorganizational relationship variables, EMO, and export performance. This study also introduces the degree of internationalization from a contingency-based view and demonstrates that internationalization complements EMO, and thus facilitates export performance.  相似文献

This paper contributes to the literature on firms’ productivity and exporting decisions by analysing the role played by organisational choice aspects. Rather than setting up a vertically integrated structure, manufacturers may act as subcontractors in both domestic and foreign markets, and produce to satisfy the requirements of other firms. The predictions that the most productive firms self‐select into exporting, whereas the least productive ones work as subcontractors serving the domestic market only, are tested on a sample of Italian firms observed during the 1998–2003 period. The results of our estimates highlight a ranking of firms consistent with a priori expectations, and provide a clear indication that passive exporters (i.e. those using subcontracting in foreign markets) display lower total factor productivity (TFP) values when compared with direct exporters. Moreover, only the latter category exhibits higher pre‐entry productivity levels and growth rates as well as higher post‐entry TFP growth rates. Such findings are consistent with both the self‐selection hypothesis and the learning‐by‐exporting explanation.  相似文献

本文针对我国在稀有金属市场拥有资源优势而无话语权的现状,提出了"中国大市场悖论"这一论点,并以钨矿、稀土这两大稀有金属市场为考察对象,证实了这一悖论的存在。实证研究表明,随着钨矿的过度开采,我国钨矿生产的边际成本逐年上升。我国稀土生产已初具规模化生产特征。钨矿、稀土等出口市场都是非完全竞争市场。我国在20个钨矿出口市场中,仅在孟加拉、印尼、巴基斯坦、瑞士等少数市场拥有一定的市场势力。我国在17个稀土出口市场中,仅在香港、印尼和泰国市场拥有有限的市场势力。基于我国具有资源优势而无定价的现状,提出了在稀有金属开采市场提高资源税,培育稀有金属金融衍生品市场,构建稀有金属出口价格联盟等政策建议。  相似文献

This study revisits the stage model dialogue by testing seven hypotheses on the relationship between stages of export development and the influence of export barriers. Empirical data are based on a sample of 145 New Zealand firms, and the analysis combines a six‐stage framework with an illustrative list of barriers, while going a step further than previous research by examining the effect of covariates. Empirical results demonstrate that resource constraints, marketing barriers, knowledge and experience barriers, and export‐procedure barriers are “export stage dependent.” However, regarding export‐stage‐dependent barriers, differences exist only when we compare the early to the very advanced stages of development. These results also refute the grand hypothesis, which suggests an inverse relationship between export stages and the influence of export barriers. While the stage model typology still provides a practicable basis for need‐based segmentation, it does not capture completely the heterogeneity associated with the middle stages. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

A relatively limited amount of empirical research has focused on problems and issues pertaining to exporting from countries not associated with an advanced level of economic development. This paper reports on a systematic study of problems experienced by Greek exporting manufacturers in their trading activities with overseas distributors based in European Community (EC). In this context, an attempt is made, firstly, to investigate the underlying structure of exporting problems, and secondly, to examine the extent to which there are significant differences in perceptions of exporting problems based upon the degree of export involvement. A number of significant differences are found to exist in perceived export problems between different exporter categories in terms of export involvement. The implications of the study for business practitioners and public policy makers are highlighted, and future research directions are identified and discussed.  相似文献

Development assistance has been criticised for a lack of coordination between aid donors. This paper argues that competition for export markets and political support prevents donor countries from coordinating their aid activities between one another. To test these hypotheses, we perform logit and fractional logit estimations for a large sample of recipient countries and aid activities since the early 1970s. Our empirical results reveal that export competition between donors is a major impediment to aid coordination. Although less conclusive, we also find some evidence that donors' competition over political support prevents them from coordinating aid activities more closely.  相似文献

This study empirically examines the impact of export promotional services on the export performance of manufacturing firms in Tanzania. The results suggest three broad tentative contributions to our understanding of export causal relationships: First, awareness per se of export promotional services is a poor explanatory factor of export performance. Second, as expected, usage of the services is a better explanatory factor than awareness. Third, contrary to expectations, satisfaction with the services tends to be inversely associated, though not significantly, with export performance. More empirical research elsewhere is recommended to validate these results.  相似文献

近年来,我国的蔬菜出口逐年加速增长,出口品种日趋多样化,出口市场日益扩大。全球蔬菜需求量的增加和加入WTO又为我国的蔬菜出口提供了新的机遇。但我国的蔬菜出口业仍然存在产品结构单一、质量较差、各出口商之间恶性竞争问题,严重影响我国蔬菜的出口。为适应当今国际蔬菜市场上发展的需要,我国应采取相应的措施,如理顺蔬菜出口管理体制、优化产品结构、提高产品质量等。  相似文献

On July 29, 2002, the trading mechanism in the Taiwan Futures Exchange (TAIFEX) was switched from an exclusive call market to a continuous auction market. Based upon several proxies of market quality, in the present study, we set out to empirically examine whether this switch has resulted in any significant improvement in market quality within the TAIFEX. We find that while the quoted spreads, effective spreads, and price volatility are all smaller in the continuous auction market, the call auction market exhibits greater market depth and smaller pricing errors; the latter is also found to be more effective in resolving the problem of information asymmetry. Overall, the results of the present study suggest that the choice between call and continuous auction trading mechanisms essentially involves trade‐offs between the bid‐ask spread, market depth, price volatility, information asymmetry costs, and price efficiency.  相似文献

The export of Chinese light industrial products mainly covers 19 categories of 45 sectors, including food, pa-permaking, home electrical appliances industry and etc. According to Chinese customs statistics, the export value of the light industrial products in the first four months only managed to reach US$136.7 billion, 17.8 percent drop compared with the same period last year, however 2.7 percentage points lower than the national total export decline rate.  相似文献

Recent literature finds that exporters are particularly vulnerable to financial market frictions. As a consequence, exports may be lower than their efficient levels. For this reason, many countries support exporters by underwriting export credit guarantees. The empirical evidence on the effects of those policies is, however, very limited. In this paper, we use sectoral data on export credit guarantees issued by the German government. We investigate whether those guarantees indeed do increase exports and whether they remedy the export‐restricting effect of credit market imperfections both on the sectoral and on the export‐market levels. Exploiting the sectoral structure of a rich three‐way panel data set of German exports, we control for unobserved heterogeneity on the country‐year, sector‐year and country‐sector dimensions. We document a robust export‐increasing effect of guarantees. There is some evidence that the effect is larger for export markets with poor financial institutions and in sectors that rely more on external finance.  相似文献

与直接出口相比,间接出口降低了企业出口的固定成本,但增加了出口的可变成本.本文首先在Melitz(2003)的理论框架下引入融资约束和多种出口模式,研究发现融资约束大的企业更倾向于选择间接出口模式,以节约出口固定成本和缓解融资约束.基于此,本文利用世界银行2012年中国企业调查数据实证检验了融资约束对我国企业出口模式的影响.本文发现:第一,融资约束的增加不仅增加了企业间接出口的可能性,也增加了间接出口规模;第二,对外部融资依赖较大的企业而言,融资约束的增加对企业间接出口模式和间接出口规模的影响更加明显;第三,生产率对企业出口模式的影响不明显,但企业规模、经营时间、外资和研发投入的增加降低了间接出口的概率和规模.总之,融资约束的增加迫使企业选择间接出口模式,以节约出口的固定成本,而这对外部融资依赖较大的企业更加明显.  相似文献

A frequently overlooked component of succesful international trade involves the efficient distribution of products. The present paper looked at international freight forwarder perceptions of the easiest and most difficult countries for arranging international freight operations. The forwarders overwhelmingly indicated that Great Britain was the easiest country for arranging international freight operations, which China emerged as the most difficult. Study results could be helpful both as competitive benchmarks and in formulating public policy.  相似文献
