This study explored some human resource and human systems' aspects of the competitive dynamics for firms attempting to survive and prosper within Russia, a highly volatile transition economy. Overall, this study adds to our understanding of international strategic human resource management, dynamic capabilities, and the generation of competitive advantage within transition economies.

We found that a relatively new construct derived from the dynamic capabilities and organizational change literatures, known as ‘organizational capacity for change,’ is positively associated with firm performance within a wide variety of Russian firms. Furthermore, we find that the relationship between organizational capacity for change and firm performance is stronger when there are relatively high levels of uncertainty with the task environment. Finally, we found that organizational capacity for change is an important attribute in all sizes of organizations, not just for large organizations as hypothesized.  相似文献

This article focuses specifically on how and why managers might go about using stakeholder identification and analysis techniques in order to help their organizations meet their mandates, fulfill their missions and create public value. A range of stakeholder identification and analysis techniques is reviewed. The techniques cover: organizing participation; creating ideas for strategic interventions, including problem formulation and solution search; building a winning coalition around proposal development, review and adoption; and implementing, monitoring and evaluating strategic interventions. The article argues that wise use of stakeholder analyses can help frame issues that are solvable in ways that are technically feasible and politically acceptable and that advance the common good. The article concludes with a number of recommendations for management research, education and practice.  相似文献

A central aspect of the efforts to improve public healthcare systems often is a provider’s management accounting system (MAS). The article focuses on a change effort for a hospital’s MAS. The effort involved implementing low-cost information technology designed to improve efficiency and effectiveness in operating rooms. The article aims to identify and discuss the factors that led to the hospital’s success in achieving improved outcomes at lower costs via the improvement of its MAS. The analysis uses a theoretical framework that can assist managers to identify methods that can help to foster the factors needed for effective change implementation.  相似文献

The main premise of this article is that human resources (HR) and information technologies (IT) are central rather than support functions in knowledge-intensive services. By building management capabilities in both HR and IT, knowledge-intensive services can transform their business processes that, in turn, enable them to provide exemplary services to the customers. Our arguments are grounded in the three related theoretical frameworks of the resource-based view, organizational capabilities, and the theory of complementarities. We suggest that the research and practice in HR and IT fields may have to focus on HR and IT capabilities rather than HR practices or IT investments as the sources of sustainable competitive advantage since capabilities better fit the definition of a ‘resource’ than HR practices or IT investments. Further, organizational capabilities in both HR and IT may enable knowledge-intensive services to transcend the inherent tradeoff between cost and responsiveness. A key aspect of effective public planning design is to minimize the impact of negative outcomes that can arise from the violation of pre-established system constraint criteria. These planning situations can be especially complicated when several components within the studied system are either unknown or contain considerable stochastic uncertainty. In this paper, the concept of outcome minimization through the use of penalty functions is combined with grey programming (GP) into an evolutionary simulation-optimization (ESO) procedure in order to solve solid waste management problems containing significant sources of uncertainty. By employing outcome minimization concurrently with GP and ESO, it can be shown that plans that meet, or come close to meeting, required system criteria can be efficiently created. The efficacy of the procedure is demonstrated through its application to a solid waste planning case from the Municipality of Hamilton-Wentworth in the Province of Ontario, Canada. Since ESO techniques can be adapted to a wide variety of problem types in which some or all of the system components are stochastic, the practicality of this approach can be adapted to many operational and strategic planning situations containing significant sources of uncertainty.  相似文献
