This paper discusses the methods used in a study on the values of time and reliability in freight transport in the Netherlands. SP surveys were carried out among more than 800 shippers and carriers. A novel feature is that both for the value of time and reliability two additive components are distinguished: a transport cost and a cargo component. Specific instructions were given to make sure that the carriers provide the former and shippers that contract out the latter component. The resulting values that will be used in CBA in The Netherlands are presented and compared against the international literature.  相似文献

We study the impact of travel-time reliability on trips made by railway passengers. Unlike most of the studies in this area, which make use of stated preference survey data, we use a revealed preference data set obtained by measuring the railway reliability and the number of season-ticket holders on the Dutch railway network. We make use of six travel-time reliability indicators, including the standard deviation and the 80th minus the 50th percentile of travel time. Our results indicate that the 80th minus the 50th percentile indicator best explains the fluctuations in the number of season-ticket holders. A 10% improvement of this indicator results in a 1.47% increase in the number of season-ticket holders.  相似文献

This paper introduces the vehicle routing problem with soft time windows (VRPSTW) in which problem definition differs from ones previously defined in literature. Branch-and-price approach is employed, resulting in a set partitioning master problem and its new subproblem. Novel techniques are consequently developed to solve this new subproblem. Experimental results report the comparisons of these solution techniques under the branch-and-price framework. The VRPSTW solutions have further been compared to the state-of-the-art literature, signifying the superiority of the VRPSTW on this issue.  相似文献

With a dominant volume of global transportation being conducted by sea, ocean container transport greatly impacts the global economy. Since sea vessels are drastically more fuel efficient when traveling at lower speeds, slow steaming has become a widely adopted practice to reduce bunker costs. However, this leads to a longer transportation time, which together with the unpredictability of the delay has been a big challenge. We propose a model to quantify the relationship among shipping time, bunker cost and delivery reliability. Our findings lead to a simple and implementable policy with a controlled cost and guaranteed delivery reliability.  相似文献

We consider the effect of the so-called second-best tolls on the price of anarchy of the traffic equilibrium problem where there are multiple classes of users with a discrete set of values of time. We derive several bounds of the price of anarchy for this problem when the tolls are considered and not considered as part of the system cost, with the time-based criterion and the cost-based criterion, respectively. All the bounds give us useful information on the effect of the tolls, which can be used to design network toll schemes.  相似文献

The trilogy of distance, speed and time   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Over the recent past there has been a dramatic increase in travel, mainly driven by the desire to move faster and over ever greater distances. This growth is unsustainable, and the continued growth in levels of mobility needs to be reassessed through substantially reducing the levels of consumption (energy and carbon) in transport. This means that travel activities should be based on shorter distances and slower speeds, with a more flexible interpretation of time constraints. Transport geographers should have a strong and instrumental role to play in this debate. This paper outlines the changing patterns of movement, before concentrating on urban areas where most daily travel takes place, and it examines the trilogy of distance, speed and time. The focus of the paper is on distance, and the role that land use planning and development, and technology can play in encouraging new forms of travel in cities, but there are strong implications on the ways in which speed and time are conceptualised. The conventional transport paradigm is heavily embedded in the belief that travel time needs to be minimised and consequently speeds need to be increased. The resulting impacts on travel distances have not been part of that debate, but reducing travel distances is central to sustainable transport.  相似文献
