Statistical process control (SPC) has evolved beyond its classical applications in manufacturing to monitoring economic and social phenomena. This extension has required the consideration of autocorrelated and possibly non-stationary time series. Less attention has been paid to the possibility that the variance of the process may also change over time. In this paper we use the innovations state space modeling framework to develop conditionally heteroscedastic models. We provide examples to show that the incorrect use of homoscedastic models may lead to erroneous decisions about the nature of the process. 相似文献

The deployment of statistical process control (SPC) in manufacturing environments is a prominent global phenomenon. Managers have frequently justified investments in SPC by citing and/or demonstrating the improvements in quality and costs from the effective implementation and practice of SPC. This paper complements this rationalization by presenting conceptual arguments and empirical evidence to further our understanding of the motivational effects that result from the deployment of SPC within production environments. Several hypotheses derived from relating the deployment of SPC to process operators’ jobs and their affective reactions to work are tested using data provided by 100 process operators. The empirical results, generated from applying path analysis, suggest that the effective implementation and practice of SPC, in fact, would create more enriched jobs for process operators that lead to higher levels of work motivation and job satisfaction. 相似文献

Managers are likely to withhold negative news to protect their own interests. When they can no longer withhold such news, extreme negative returns and a stock price crash (SPC) follow. This study explores whether a favorable corporate governance (CG) mechanism helps reduce SPC risk. The findings reveal that CG affects SPC risk. Moreover, the effects of institutional ownership, board size, and disclosure violation frequency are particularly significant in family-owned businesses. We also examine the effectiveness of CG evaluation (CGE) in Taiwan and discover that companies with high rankings are substantially less likely to encounter an SPC. This study verifies that CGE can be considered an indicator of SPC risk. 相似文献

A common conviction among quality practitioners is that the implementation and practice of Statistical Process Control (SPC) within the production environment would lead to improvements in output quality. How and why this conviction might be valid, on the other hand, has not been well conceptualized in the scientific domain. Furthermore, besides improved performance in terms of output quality, other benefits that might arise from the implementation and practice of SPC is a question that has yet to be adequately addressed in the literature. This article proposes a theoretical framework to provide a better conceptual understanding for these two issues. This theoretical framework extends the conceptualization and definition of a recently proposed construct, (SPC Implementation/Practice), by formally postulating direct and indirect effects for this construct. These postulated effects go beyond stating the intuitively obvious—namely, that SPC Implementation/Practice positively affects quality—(1) to specifically relate Process Quality and Product Quality to SPC Implementation/Practice and (2) to incorporate the Job Characteristics Model into an explanation of how and why SPC Implementation/Practice affects front-line operators' internal work motivation and job satisfaction levels. 相似文献
