This paper explores what sustainability managers do when attempting to scale sustainability to a strategic level within their organization. Drawing on semistructured interview data with 44 sustainability managers in large, for‐profit companies, we identify three distinct scaling microstrategies that individuals use when scaling sustainability. We label these conforming, leveraging, and shaping. Our analysis also finds that sustainability managers deploy combinations of these microstrategies in three distinct approaches, which we call the assimilation approach, the mobilization approach, and the transition approach. Finally, we interrogate the degree to which employing these different approaches achieves a peripheral, intermediate, or strategic scale of sustainability within the organizations represented in the study. Our paper contributes to theory and practice at the interface of strategy and sustainability by developing a practice‐based Scaling Approach Framework, whereby an assimilation approach is associated with organizations with sustainability at a peripheral scale, a mobilization approach is associated with an intermediate scale of sustainability, and a transition approach is associated with scaling sustainability to a strategic level. From these results, we propose a Scaling Progression Model that reflects the phases that individuals progress through when scaling sustainability.  相似文献

急剧变化的外部环境对管理教育的有效性提出了更高要求,情境化教育成了应对这一挑战的有效措施,行动学习为如何提高情境化程度提供了另一种思路。本文对行动学习的起源及发展进行了历史探究,认为其快速发展得益于20世纪80年代的两股潮流,即组织学习理论以及体验式学习和日本企业所引起的美国企业界和商学院的反思。这两股潮流夯实了行动学习的理论基础并确立了GE公司"群策群力"等行动学习应用典范。GE公司的标杆作用以及其阶梯式的课程安排、行动学习与现代信息技术的融合,以及哈佛商学院等行动学习项目的开展可以为国内企业和商学院管理教育的提升提供一定的借鉴,弥补情境化教育中情境化程度不足的缺憾。  相似文献

While the question of what makes a journal impactful continues to draw scholarly attention and debate, the lack of conceptual foundation as to what journal impact represents, and how it manifests itself, has impeded efforts to establish a richer understanding. Drawing from the theory of innovation diffusion, we propose journal impact as a multidimensional concept manifested most prominently in the magnitude, prestige, breadth, dispersion, and duration dynamics of citations accruing to a journal. In doing so, we complement extant representations of journal impact as a unidimensional concept with insights into the pattern and profile of a journal impact across space and time. We illustrate the multidimensionality of journal impact as a diffusion process in a longitudinal analysis of citation patterns at the Journal of Management Studies over a 40‐year period.  相似文献

Studies on business model innovation (BMI) have largely focused on firm performance, neglecting outcomes of BMI beyond financial performance indicators. Research lacks empirical findings from the internal organizational dynamics following the inherent transformation process induced by BMI. Rooting our analysis in configuration theory, the purpose of this paper is to shed light on the organizational impact of BMI. We employ the person-organization fit concept and assess (unintentional) changes in the fit relationship subsequent to BMI. Our findings suggest that incremental BMI enhances fit whereas radical BMI decreases it. We further discuss the theoretical and practical implications of our study.  相似文献

基于2001年1月至2009年9月共105个月份的中国实际进出口贸易总额数据,运用Beveridge-Nelson(B-N)数据分解法对序列的确定性趋势项、周期项和随机冲击项进行了分解,分析了国际金融危机对我国进出口贸易总额的冲击效应,得出结论:第一,我国进出口贸易具有相对较强的抗干扰能力;第二,受外需下降等因素的影响,当前国际金融危机对我国进出口贸易的冲击程度相对较大;第三,我国进出口贸易受国际金融危机的冲击程度正在逐渐减弱,复苏迹象已渐渐显现。复苏后,外向依赖型的经济增长结构将发生较大改变,扩内需和调结构将带来新的经济增长点。  相似文献

This study investigates how regional variations in institutions and knowledge pools impact new firm entry into emerging industry sectors. Using the cleantech industry sector as a research context, we hypothesize and find that supportive regional institutional logics – shared meaning systems in a community that confer legitimacy upon particular goals and practices – generate cognitive schemas (mental models) that facilitate opportunity recognition and increase new firm entry rates. Drawing from research on socially situated cognition, we demonstrate that supportive institutional logics have a greater impact on new firm entry when a regional knowledge pool is larger, but a reduced impact on new firm entry when the knowledge pool is more specialized. These findings integrate previously distinct perspectives from institutional theory and knowledge economics, while contributing to research on how new industry sectors emerge.  相似文献
