OPENING UP A NEW SITUATION FOR PROMOTING FOREIGN TRADE

1996 marks the beginning of China'sNinth Five-Year Plan period.It isalso a year in which Anhui Provincewill lay the foundation for carrying out itsthree major tasks—developing Anhui throughthe development of science and education,promoting export-oriented production andmaintaining sustainable development so asto attain the great goal set for the next 15years.The CCPIT Anhui Sub-council willfirmly seize this historic opportunity to furtherstrengthen its role and functions,promoteservice quality,and extend the dimensions ofits service,providing an all round andmultifunctional service for provincial foreigneconomic and trade operations and promotingthe smooth gearing up of the province'seconomy with the world economic community. The CCPIT Anhui sub-council wasfounded in 1980.Now it has a membership of1600,including 1248 enterprise members.

It can be said that the auto industry has seen a big shakeup since the breakout of the financial crisis last year, whether in China or in western countries. REMINISCENCES OF THE PAST——WORKING FOR CHINA'S FOREIGN TRADE

In December 1958, the China Council forthe Promotion of InternationalTrade(CCPIT) established its PublicityDepartment. Its task was to take over themagazine China's Foreign Trade, transferredfrom the Ministry of Foreign Trade. Ms. LuJiyin held the post of department head, and Iwas transferred from the post of the ResearchDepartment Commissioner to that of thePublicity Department Commissioner to assisther in her work. The magazine China's Foreign Tradewas originally established in 1956 by thePropaganda Section under the General Officeof the Ministry of Foreign Trade. It had twoeditions: Chinese and English, under trialpublication. The magazine, sponsored by theMinistry of Foreign Trade was a trialpublication in nature, so when the task of

The China Machinery Equipment Import And Export Group (CEG) was founded in July 1994 with the approval of the State Economic and Trade Commission. It is a product of the speedy reform of foreign trade enterprises and of the policy of forming enterprise conglomerates.
