Abstract. This paper examines firms’ competitiveness in the seafood processing industry in Vietnam and policy changes for global integration. We find that trade liberalization is a very important policy change that has generally positive impacts and generates strong reactions in the seafood processing industry. Exchange rate depreciation is also an important factor and receives strong responsiveness as most of firms’ intermediate inputs are tradable and seafood products are also tradable. Increasing electricity charges that reduce profitability also generate strong reactions. Oil and petrol comprise a small portion of intermediate inputs, hence increasing the oil price does not significantly hinder the industry and does not stimulate very strong reactions. The US anti‐dumping tariff strongly hurts firms’ profitability, not only seafood exporting firms but also non‐exporters.  相似文献

Disasters are extraordinary situations that require significant logistical deployment to transport equipment and humanitarian goods in order to help and provide relief to victims. An efficient response helps to reduce the social, economic and environmental impacts. In this paper, we define and formulate a practical transportation problem often encountered by crisis managers in emergency situations. Since optimal solutions to such a formulation may be achieved only for very small-size instances, we developed an efficient genetic algorithm to deal with realistic situations. This algorithm produces near optimal solutions in relatively short computation times and is fast enough to be used interactively in a decision-support system, providing high-quality transportation plans to emergency managers.  相似文献

We propose an alternative method for estimating the nonlinear component in semiparametric panel data models. Our method is based on marginal integration that allows us to recover the nonlinear component from an additive regression structure that results from the first differencing transformation. We characterize the asymptotic behavior of our estimator. We also extend the methodology to treat panel data models with two-way effects. Monte Carlo simulations show that our estimator behaves well in finite samples in both random effects and fixed effects settings.  相似文献

At the height of the COVID-19 related market stress in March 2020, six European countries implemented market-wide short selling bans. Based on a difference-in-difference approach using regulatory data, our estimation finds that the bans are associated with a deterioration in liquidity and trading volumes, and a decrease in volatility, without evidence of price impact. Remarkably, the negative impact persisted after the bans' lift. Liquidity deterioration appears stronger for liquid shares- large-cap, highly fragmented stocks, and stocks with listed derivatives. Sectoral effects are noticed for the stocks most affected by the market stress. Finally, no displacement effect was observed.  相似文献

The current study seeks to answer a number of key questions concerning the strategic management of frontline employees (e.g. individuals who do not occupy an executive, managerial or supervisory role in functions such as production, maintenance, service and clerical functions) and their contributions towards the performance of small- and medium-sized manufacturing firms in Australia. This study adopts a human capital perspective to examine the employee and organisational performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Australia. We were also interested in seeking to examine the presence of the human resource management (HRM) function of SMEs in Australia and their contribution towards employee and firm performance. Findings from the partial least square analysis identified the antecedents and consequences of a human capital enhancing (HCE) approach for the strategic HRM of frontline employees in Australia's manufacturing industry. Strategic orientations of small- and medium-sized manufacturing firms mediate the contribution of the HRM function in adopting a set of HCE HRM systems. HCE HRM system was found to have a direct and indirect impact on manufacturing performance outcomes. Frontline employees' performance was found to mediate the impact of HCE HRM system on manufacturing performance outcomes. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed in relation to the management of frontline employees in enhancing perceived employee and manufacturing performance.  相似文献

  • Nowadays, not‐for‐profit organizations and charities face the ageing of donors and a growing debate over monetary donation collection methods. They need to find solutions to attract younger generations of donors. Could this be done using the same methods applied to older generations? This present research investigates social representations (SRs) of giving by younger generations to understand how not‐for‐profit organizations and charities should approach them. The study focuses on SRs of a French sample of 276 individuals from Generation Y born between 1979 and 1991. It uses the free association technique. The results show paradoxical representations of giving. Institutionalization of giving is salient as representation of it as a freely consenting act. The paradox relies also in the strong presence of a relationship with others that parallels the gift as an individualistic choice.
  • Generation Y individuals appear to be sociable, yet they evoke more sharing and solidarity than charity. Institutionalized forms of giving, particularly via charities and not‐for‐profit organizations, are rejected. These individuals seem to express their individuality through practices that resemble sharing rather than giving. From a managerial point of view, these results shed light on the factors liable to cause members of this generation to give, such as (i) the use of social networks, (ii) appealing to pleasure, festivities and efficiency rather than to guilt and duty, and (iii) encouragement to “work within the not‐for‐profit organization”.

运用协整检验方法,定量分析现代物流与产业结构升级之间的关系,研究结果发现,现代物流与产业结构升级之间存在长期稳定的均衡关系,产业结构升级率每提高1个百分点,物流贡献率增加0.140 018 7个百分点;并进一步利用灰色关联分析理论对现代物流贡献率与第二产业结构升级率和第三产业结构升级率的关联度进行测算,结果发现第二产业结构升级率与物流贡献率的关联度更高,这说明第二产业结构升级对我国现代物流业的发展具有较大的影响.  相似文献

基于2006-2019年中国省级面板数据,在固定效应模型的基础上进一步采用GLS方法实证分析了互联网科技进步与消费金融行业发展之间的关系,结果发现:互联网科技有效赋能我国消费金融行业的规模增长以及结构优化;相较于互联网基础设施、互联网发展环境以及互联网商务应用,互联网普及程度的正向影响较弱,表明我国互联网人口红利正在消失;新基建对消费金融行业结构优化,具有显著的边际效用递增作用,并逐渐形成行业发展的新动能.  相似文献

Family firms represent a globally dominant form of organization, yet they confront a steep challenge of finding and managing competent leaders. Sometimes, these leaders cannot be found within the owning family. To date we know little about the governance contexts under which non‐family leaders thrive or founder. Guided by concepts from agency theory and behavioural agency theory, we examine the conditions of ownership and leadership that promote superior performance among non‐family CEOs of family firms. Our analysis of 893 Italian family firms demonstrates that these leaders outperform when they are monitored by multiple major family owners as opposed to a single owner; they also outperform when they are not required to share power with co‐CEOs who are family members, and who may be motivated by parochial family socioemotional priorities.  相似文献
