We examine the reasons why one might expect it to be more difficult to offshore professional work than manufacturing work in a globalized world. We then provide data on the variations in a specific case — the offshoring of diagnostic radiology from the USA, UK and Singapore. We show that existing theories on the ‘offshorability’ of jobs have not captured how national institutions and occupational regulations continue to define professional work. We then review the question of supply from India's perspective and report that both macro‐institutional and organizational contexts make it complicated for Indian doctors to supply much of this service. 相似文献

While the transition from functional business applications to applications supporting integrated business process has dramatic impacts on virtually every function within the enterprise, these changes also have large impact on other business needs. Along with the need to take an integrated view of all business components, it is also important to recognize that many of these concepts are not simply extensions of current ways of thinking about business. Rather, they require significant training and education that go well beyond what has traditionally been provided. Today, with the cross‐functional breadth of enterprise resource planning applications, the need for new approaches becomes mandatory if the organization is to realize the full potential that these applications can provide. While the design and administration of “training” has traditionally been considered an HR responsibility, it is critical to the organization that business leaders insist on designing and funding more fundamental education. The normally accepted role for management accountants has been focused on the use of company data to produce analyses and reports on the internal working of the enterprise. However, understanding the importance of this broader and more extensive definition of training, becomes part of this analysis, particularly as return‐on‐investment cases are developed and tracked as part of the justification for funding the change programs. This paper describes a model developed to measure customer satisfaction with enterprise training programmes. Based on developments
in customer satisfaction and quality measurement, it is proposed as an alternative to the training evaluation model developed
by Kirkpatrick (1959). A single indicator, a Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI), quantifies the level of satisfaction with each training programme.
The model also measures the individual parameters that contribute to the CSI, as well as their relative importance. It facilitates

Chronic eosinophilic pneumonia is one form of eosinophilic lung disease that includes both idiopathic and known etiological cases. Chronic eosinophilic pneumonia has a characteristic clinical picture, along with a characteristic pattern on CT imaging. It is readily treatable with oral steroids, and although response is prompt with excellent resolution of the symptoms, chronic steroids are often necessary. Ours is the first paper to highlight pairs trading as the main price-correcting mechanism by which arbitrage can maintain stock–ADR parity. We show that arbitraging stock–ADR pairs extracts small per-trade profits which accumulate to a substantial aggregate return. The observed strong tendency of pricing disequilibria to mean-revert, along with the two-way convertibility between stocks and ADRs, mean that arbitrageurs face minimal risks toward price divergence. They do, however, face uncertainty about the duration of individual trades. The magnitude of this uncertainty relates directly to the profit target arbitrageurs set after a long/short position is established. This fact can explain why some disequilibria go unexploited. Overall, our work provides evidence against automatically efficient prices, and supports the view that mispricings incentivize arbitrageurs to enforce market efficiency. 相似文献

The adoption of new manufacturing practices such as just-in-time (JIT) and total quality management (TQC) is only a first step to improving manufacturing performance. Even more critical is the fit between manufacturing practices and organizational design, structure and processes. Using archival and survey data, this paper reports the results of a field study within a Fortune 500 company that tests three operationalizations of contingency theory as discussed by Van de Ven and Drazin (1985) [The Concept of Fit in Contingency Theory, Research in Organizational Behavior, pp. 333–365]. Results show that the misfit between worker empowerment required by JIT/TQC practices and existing authoritarian management partially explain relative workgroup performance as do other conflicts within workgroups and between operators and supervisors. 相似文献
