Expert systems, intelligent databases and other forms of advanced information technology are quickly becoming pervasive tools in accounting and auditing. All the major public accounting firms are either using such systems in their auditing practice or have them under development. This paper describes the use of several systems used for audit planning. These are divided into three functional areas: audit risk assessment, internal control evaluation and audit program development. This paper reports on a study of large U.S. based corporations concerning the status of formal ethics statements. Almost all responding firms (91%) have promulgated a formal code of ethics while one-half have published values statements and about one-third have a corporate credo. Analysis of these statements concentrated on to whom they are communicated; whether codes of ethics contain information pertinent to the industry, include sanctions for violations and provide specific guidance regarding gifts. In recent years there has been interest in the impact of the form of ownership on the behavior of financial institutions. In the 1980’s, there was a substantial movement away from mutual ownership to stock ownership in the thrift industry. The effect of this conversion process on risk taking and efficiency has been a matter of concern. The purpose of this paper is to examine the experience of savings banks in Massachusetts. A panel of 115 savings banks is analyzed for the years 1985 through 1993, a period that includes both rapid growth and a subsequent severe cyclical decline in property values. The credit quality of loan portfolios is related to the size of the portfolio, the structure of the portfolio, and the ownership status of the bank. Several models are estimated. In all cases, it was found that the cyclical decline in property values resulted in a decline in the credit quality of loan portfolios with a substantially greater impact on those savings banks that converted from mutual to stock status.  相似文献

This paper examines a tendency within existing marketing scholarship to compartmentalize ethical issues. It also shows how this tendency can cause ethical tensions and conflicts in marketing practice. The emerging service-dominant (S-D) logic for marketing, as proposed by Vargo and Lusch, is explored as an example of an approach to marketing that overcomes this tendency. The S-D logic is found to be a positive development for marketing ethics because it facilitates the seamless integration of ethical accountability into marketing decision-making. Specific recommendations are made for improving the ethical climate in marketing using marketing performance measurement theory and practice.

Objective: To assess the cost-effectiveness (CE) of the originator follitropin-α (Gonal-F) in patients undergoing a medically assisted reproduction (MAR) program in comparison to its biosimilars Bemfola and Ovaleap in a French context.

Methods: A CE model was developed for France with a National Health Service (NHS) perspective. Clinical, safety, and dosage data were derived from pivotal clinical trials that compared Gonal-F to Ovaleap and Bemfola. Costs pertaining to drugs, hospitalizations, specialist visits, and examinations were retrieved from the French Programme de Médicalisation des Systèmes d'Information (PMSI) hospital database, literature review, and French clinical experts using 2017?Euro tariffs. In order to test the robustness of results, deterministic one-way sensitivity analyses were carried out on the main variables to assess the impact of treatment cost, probability of birth, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) rates, and dosage.

Results: The average incremental cost per live birth with OHSS and without OHSS was €259.56 and €278.39, respectively, for Gonal-F compared to the pooled biosimilars (i.e. Ovaleap and Bemfola). GONAL-F had an incremental efficacy of 0.06 over the pooled biosimilars. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio for Gonal-F with OHSS ranged from €3,274.80 to €4,877.76 compared to the pooled biosimilars, owing to the additional live births reported with Gonal-F. Sensitivity analyses also supported results from the base case analyses, with Gonal-F being cost-effective or the dominant strategy in most cases.

Conclusion: Gonal-F seems to be a cost-effective strategy compared to its biosimilars Ovaleap and Bemfola, irrespective of the incidence of OHSS events, but further data are needed to confirm these results.  相似文献

The decision whether to require publicly traded companies to adopt International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) remains in flux. In 2008, the US Securities and Exchange Commission proposed a roadmap leading to complete acceptance of IFRS in the US. With the potential replacement of US GAAP with IFRS in the near future, understanding the impact of IFRS on corporate financial reporting is more important than ever. This study examines two factors which are critical considerations in the decision to accept or not to accept IFRS in the US: How different is financial statement information derived under IFRS from information derived under US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); and how much incremental information value, if any, is provided by IFRS over US GAAP? The present study extends prior research by examining concurrently both differences and their impact on market performance. Findings of this study support the view that differences on financial statement results between IFRS and US GAAP are not significant, thus, supporting proponents of adoption of IFRS in the US, after which all US publicly traded companies would use IFRS and not US GAAP.  相似文献
