Interest Rate Raised as Expected

The People's Bank of China (PBOC),the central bank, announced on April 5th that it would raise bank's benchmark one-year deposit and lending rates by 0.25 percentage points effective April 6th;rates of other borrowing and lending would also be adjusted accordingly. This was the fourth adjustment by the PBOC since last October and hereafter one-year deposit rate was raised to 3.25 percent and one-year lending rate to 6.31 percent. 关于完善利英中外合资公司存货管理的思考

存货是企业在正常的生产经营过程中为销售或生产耗用而储备的资产.企业存货管理效率的高低一定程度上反映了企业赢利能力的强弱,利英中外合资公司是一家生产和销售发电机公司,每年营业收入稳步上升,但存货资金的占用金额也逐年上升,威胁到公司营运资金的正常运转和安全.文章通过对该公司的存货管理过程的分析,发现导致存货严重积压的原因,并建议公司领导采取措施,解决降低库存问题.     

Influence behaviors and employees’ reactions: An empirical test among six societies based on a transactional–relational contract model

Organizational and task commitment are central drivers of firm performance as they affect employees’ willingness to exert effort for the organization. This paper argues that supervisors who consistently use socio-emotional and supportive influence strategies are likely to enhance subordinates’ immediate commitment to the tasks as well as their psychological attachment to the organization. Drawing on the transactional–relational contracts framework, we develop and empirically examine the effects of supervisors’ influence behaviors on two types of commitment. Data collected from 1150 respondents from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Germany, United States and Brazil provided support for the positive relationship between the persuasive influence strategy and both immediate task and organizational commitment. Exploratory analyses of the cultural differences in our sample reveal differences in assertive and relationship-based individual tactics. We thus identified potentially universally endorsed as well as culturally contingent influence tactics in predicting the two types of commitment.

China's regulated marketing mix: The role of the state administration Bureau for industry and commerce

China is the most populous and the fastest growing major economy in the world. Although still a centralized economy, free enterprise and foreign investment is now encouraged. Many regulations have recently been introduced to control the new trade based economy. These are policed by the State Administration Bureau for Industry and Commerce, a huge bureaucracy with thousands of local offices. This paper reviews how it manages trade and particularly the marketing mix in China. The power of the local offices is discussed and a distinction drawn between “the rule of men” and “the rule of law”. It provides recommendations for trading in China.

Executive Stock Option Exercise and Seasoned Equity Offerings

We examine executive stock option exercises around a sample of 1,268 seasoned equity offerings (SEOs) from 1996 to 2004 focusing on a subset of exercises we identify as potentially informed. Consistent with the theory that firms issue equity when stock is overvalued, we document a surge in informed exercise in the months surrounding the SEO. From six months prior to the announcement date to six months after issuance, an average 1.76% of the total market capitalization for issuing firms is exercised and sold. Interestingly, we find a positive association between informed option exercises and long-run performance. Overall, our collective evidence indicates that insiders are not particularly good at timing exercises around SEOs.
