This study attempted to answer the following research questions: (1) Do eco-friendly attitudes affect hotel customers’ environmentally friendly intentions to visit a green hotel, to spread word-of-mouth about a green hotel, and to pay more for a green hotel?; (2) If so, which facet of attitudes has the greatest impact?; (3) How do their expressed intentions differ across gender, age, education, and household income?; (4) How do such expressed intentions differ based on the existence of previous experience staying at a green hotel? A total of 422 cases were used to answer the research questions. Findings indicate that customers’ green attitudes are, in general, significantly associated with their expressed intentions to visit a green hotel, to spread word-of-mouth about a green hotel, and to pay more for it. Gender differences in such intentions were found, and the intentions were affected by their previous experiences with a green hotel. However, the eco-friendly intentions did not significantly differ across age, education, and household income.  相似文献

This paper examines some aspects of the working experiences of the managing directors of Australian subsidiaries of European, UK and US multinational corporations in a sector of the healthcare industry. The study compares and contrasts the work experiences of two groups of subsidiary managers. One group reports into the multinational's parent headquarters, while the other group reports into an Asia Pacific regional office. Evidence emerged from the study of a significant difference in the work experiences of the two groups of managers and suggests that a regional structure may not always be the optimal structure for the subsidiary. Key impediments to a successful regional structure seem to be attitudinal, because of cultural and language differences. This finding is in conflict with mainstream international human resource management research that maintains that a regional structure offers efficiency and contributes positively to globalisation through the process of value creation and enhancement. The paper goes on to address the need to provide an effective mechanism for improving the work experience and, in particular, the communication between inpatriate managers and their supervisors.  相似文献

This paper explores the relationship between organizational context and the interpretation of strategic issues by examining the hypothesis that CEOs' interpretations of foreign investment in the USA are influenced by the organizational context in which they are embedded. Three aspects of organizational context - the global business experience of the firm; the firm's level of organizational inertia (as represented by firm age and size); and the resources available for responding - are examined as predictors of CEOs' perceptions of foreign investment as a threat or an opportunity. Analysis of data from 320 organizations, controlled by industry, shows that global business experience, firm size, and perceived capability are significant predictors of the perception of threat and opportunity. the discussion addresses the implications of these findings for future research on issue interpretation and organizational context.  相似文献

Contending views about the ‘threats’ and ‘opportunities’ relating to China’s economic rise reflect the complex and, for many, confusing role of the state in China’s reform and development process. This in turn relates to a marked difference between China’s official perception of ‘Socialism with Chinese characteristics’ and alternative views regarding the nature of its emerging capitalist system. This glaring gap in perceptions is problematic in an increasingly globalised world, complicating debates about what China should and will do to rebalance its domestic economy how other nations should and will react to the recent surge in Chinese investment overseas. In‐depth interviews with owners of 19 exceptionally successful US‐based travel agencies were analyzed using a ground theory approach to reveal customer service excellence, employee enrichment and effective networking as three core perceived strengths that comprise a theme of ‘relationship building’. The latter is supported by a theme of ‘facilitation’ entailing diligent client selection, a culture of learning, high adaptability (related to technology and product realignment), scale, adherence to business basics, and owner optimism. A major question about the adequacy of the future supply of nurses is how many will stay in the profession. The relationship between scheduling and propensity to stay or leave the nursing profession was examined in this study. This analysis suggests there are definite characteristics of the work schedules that can influence a nurse's inclination to stay or leave the profession. This is not simply a question of "overwork," but of matching work schedules and hours as closely as possible to employee expectations. This suggests management needs to find a way to pay attention when nurses request changes in hours. The mere fact of changing schedules will not solve the nursing shortage, but it is one action within the management control of any organization employing nurses that could have a positive effect on retention.  相似文献

In two separate projects, female university students responded to eight dress styles and male students responded to eight men's suit styles. Styles represented current, classic, newly-introduced, and outdated fashions. Responses to polar adjectives showed that subjects could discriminate among styles that were in different stages of the fashion cycle and that they perceived different patterns of risk in styles that were in different temporal categories. Subjects preferred current and classic styles to newly-introduced and outdated styles; the order of preference among styles was more closely related to aesthetic appeal (an element of social-psychological risk) than to economic or per formance risk. In general, both sexes chose the same adjectives to describe their best- liked styles. Responses of males and females were similar in most respects, although research procedures differed between the two projects.  相似文献
