Sweden prides itself as a country where young women can enjoy gender equality. Yet many young women skateboarders still experience discomfort when skateboarding in public spaces. We argue that diverse strategies are required to intervene in the intransigent problem of gender inequality in the male-dominated sport of skateboarding. We discuss two intertwined strategies adopted in Swedish skateboarding contexts, strategic visibility and strategic entitlement. Strategic visibility is premised on making girls a special case, separated from the boys, and therefore highly visible. The other intervention goes beyond the limits of gender, aiming to achieve strategic entitlement, which takes-for-granted girls’ participation and competence. Drawing from ethnographic data, we explore the paradoxical spaces of these interventions, identifying the benefits and risks of each strategy. We conclude that both strategies are important, yet the latter breaks new ground. Strategic entitlement, which constructs skateboarding girls as ordinary and indistinguishable from boys, no longer constructs gender as a limiting factor. Interventions to promote gender equality should include strategies that seek to go beyond gender and strategies that acknowledge the significance of gender. We need to keep experimenting with and researching the unintended consequences of all strategies for challenging and changing male dominance in sport and leisure. 相似文献

Collaboration is at the heart of the academic enterprise; proposals for systems such as the National Science Foundation's “National Collaboratory”; or Apple Computer's “Knowledge Navigator”; seek to support these collaborative efforts by means of a variety of computing technologies. We examine the assumptions of the model of collaborative work behind such proposals and suggest ways to extend that model. We draw on a case study of collaborative efforts in classical scholarship in order to explore more fully the existing modalities of academic collaboration as it actually occurs. The paper focuses on how localized dynamic external economies of scale may cause uneven technological development internationally, and encourage regional agglomeration of industries. Location-specific technological progress depends on the absolute number of local innovating firms, and the relative number of innovating firms; i.e., the share of economic activity in a region that takes place within the innovating sector. In this paper we analyze the dynamic implications of recycling for resource use, the level of economic activity and the long-run development of the economy. In contrast to former approaches, we take explicit account of the circulation of matter in the economy. We consider virgin resources and recycled wastes as essential inputs to production. These material inputs either end up as waste after consumption or are bound in the capital stock—depending on the utilization of the produced output. As accumulating wastes can be recycled and again be employed in production, the waste stock serves as a source of valuable inputs in our model. We focus on the implications of recycling-related market failures and the integration of material balances on the dynamics of the economy. It is shown that a market for waste and subsidies to resource extractors and recycling firms can restore optimality in the decentralized economy. 相似文献

Cause related marketing links charities to the sales of products, brands, or services. The charity is mentioned in promotional campaigns and a percentage donated to the cause according to unit sales or turnover. This article aims to establish which charities are more popular with South African consumers, and whether different socio-demographic groups (age, gender, income, and education) prefer to support different causes. A quantitative study was conducted in South Africa using a structured questionnaire administered via interviews at shopping malls. Research into the ethical disposition of students hasbeen popular in recent years. However, research intothe ethical disposition of accounting students inparticular has been sparse. Because of the uniquecharacteristics of those who choose to enter the fieldof accounting, generalizing findings of businessstudents to accounting students may not be valid. Consequently, additional studies of accountingstudents are useful.This study investigates context (academic vs.business)-based and gender-based differences inaccounting students ethical intent. We find mixedsupport for gender-based mean differences; theseresults are consistent across context. With regard tocontext we find a greater variability in respondentsbehavioral intent in an academic context relative toa business context. We also find gender-baseddifferences in how ethical issues are grouped (thatis, the perceived cognitive structure of ethicalissues). The primary purpose of this study was to examine the effects of perceptions of product harm and consumer vulnerability on
ethical evaluations of target marketing strategies. We first established whether subjects are able to accurately judge the
harmfulness of a product through labeling alone, and whether they could differentiate consumers who were more or less vulnerable.
The results suggest that without the presence of a prime, subjects who depended on implicit memory or guess were able to detect
differences in “sin” and “non-sin” products and consumer vulnerability, but were far less likely to be able to distinguish
among high and low levels of product harm and consumer vulnerability. The inability to accurately identify high and low levels
of product harm and consumer vulnerability impacted their perceptions of the ethicality of target marketing strategies, such
that only four out of 18 target marketing strategies were judged as unethical. Thus, our findings contradict previous research
that found subjects judged many more of the integrated strategies as unethical [Smith and Cooper-Martin, J Market 61(1997) 1]. Our results suggest that assessing ethical evaluations of strategies varying in product harm, and consumer vulnerability

In this article, I study the effect of the Money Market Fund Liquidity Facility (MMLF) on corporate short-term borrowing costs. Although MMLF loans accept a broader range of collateral acquired from money market funds (MMFs) than Asset-Backed Commercial Paper Money Market Mutual Fund Liquidity Facility (AMLF) loans, their higher loan rates could make the intervention less effective. I find the average yield has decreased by 20–24 basis points. The yield-decreasing effects of the MMLF are stronger for securities issued by eligible non-US firms, non-asset-backed commercial paper securities that are newly accepted as collateral under the MMLF, and securities held by affiliated MMFs. However, I do not find an additional yield-decreasing effect of the MMLF on lower rated securities or nonfinancial sector securities. After the implementation of the MMLF, domestic MMFs seem to increase the weight of nonfinancial sector securities, which helps them achieve a higher return. 相似文献
