Complex product systems (CoPS) industries largely contribute to industrial development, economic growth and creation of national wealth in both developed and developing economies. CoPS also show a number of specific characteristics as a distinctive category of industrial products in comparison with mass-produced consumer goods. These aspects have attracted the attention of scholars to study CoPS over the last two decades, resulting in a fairly extensive body of literature on the subject. However, there is a further need to connect research findings in this area, to illustrate a macro view of the development in the field, explore common themes, and identify possible paths into the future. This study aims to contribute to these ends by: (i) exploring the quantitative aspects of the CoPS literature; (ii) illustrating topical classification of CoPS studies and their findings; and (iii) suggesting opportunities for future research through examining common trends and unresolved issues in the literature. 相似文献

A recent series of articles in the Strategic Management Journal has discussed the potential value of an organization developing a market orientation in its quest to achieve success. We posit that market orientation can enhance success, but that its potential value should not be considered in isolation. Specifically, we draw on the resource‐based view of the firm to suggest that four capabilities—market orientation, entrepreneurship, innovativeness, and organizational learning—each contribute to the creation of positional advantages for some firms. The data used are drawn from 181 large multinational corporations (MNC). The results indicate that positional advantages arising from the confluence of market orientation, entrepreneurship, innovativeness, and organizational learning have a positive effect on MNC performance (five‐year average change in ROI, income, and stock price). The main purpose of this paper is using a unique data set from IPO filings to study the IPO market as a screening device and
the going public decision. We find that private firms that are less likely to have the option to access public equity markets
receive 54 cents for each dollar they expected to raise in an IPO, whereas firms that are more likely to have the option to
go public but sell privately sell at $1.11 for each dollar they expected to receive at the IPO. This result suggests that
the lower valuation for firms sold in private markets compared to firms sold in public markets can be at least partially explained
by the lower relative bargaining power of private firms. However, owners that took their firms public before selling received,
on average, 40% larger payoffs than owners that had the option to go public but decided to sell privately. The results in
this study indicate that these differences in valuation are not fully explained by existing theoretical models on the decision

Joint ownership of assets by two partners can have an adverse effect on the incentives to invest and can result in unstable and inefficient organizational structures. Control sharing, however, plays an important role in economic, political, and social institutions. There is scarce empirical evidence on the benefits of joint ownership in corporate finance. We analyze acquisitions of corporate assets by joint ventures to empirically ascertain the value of joint ownership in economic activities. The results indicate that firms experience significantly larger returns in joint acquisitions than in full-control acquisitions and that this difference is restricted to the sample of firms in which both partners share equal ownership in the target. These findings suggest that monitoring in joint ownership structures ameliorates the possibility of value-destroying corporate decisions. 相似文献

This paper concerns redistribution via nonlinear income taxation in an overlapping generations model with two ability-types.
We assume that the wage rates are determined by bargaining between unions and firms, meaning that the equilibrium is characterized
by involuntary unemployment. We show that the policy instruments that are used to calculate the marginal labor income tax
rate for each ability-type give rise to intertemporal tax base effects. In addition, since the relationship between the employment
and the capital stock implies intertemporal production inefficiency at the second best optimum, imperfect competition in the
labor market may itself justify capital income taxation.

An effective strategy formation capability is a complex organizational resource—a dynamic capability that should lead to superior performance. Strategy scholars have examined the strategy formation capability from many perspectives. However, no study has examined a comprehensive model of strategy formation in the context of the firm's strategic orientation. We develop and examine such a model. The present study seeks to answer the question of whether acting non-strategically can benefit firms. In a static Cournot framework, if a subset of firms are constrained to the equilibrium level of output, being non-strategic will have no impact on profits of neither constrained nor strategic firms and provided that sufficiently large number of firms are restricted, a marginal quantity contraction can be to their benefit. In contrast, using a dynamic Cournot framework, we find that the constraint set at the equilibrium level or moderately deviated from it, leads to increased profits for all firms irrespective of the number of non-strategic ones. 相似文献
