The doctrine of relative purchasing power parity during periods of fixed and flexible exchange rates is investigated. Using cointegration techniques and data for the Group of Seven countries, a subset of the results suggests, that purchasing power parity held only between the United States and the United Kingdom over the period 1957 QI to 1973 QII. Different results are obtained for the 1973 QIII to 1990 QIV period. Based on the maximum likelihood approach of Johansen and Juselius and an error correction model, it is concluded that purchasing power parity held between the United States and Canada, the United States and France, the United States and Italy, and the United States and the United Kingdom. 相似文献

Abstract International market selection is discussed in general, particularly in respect of decisions on evaluation stages, selection criteria and evaluation methods. The present analysis focuses on the configuration of country selection models, which has received little attention in international retailing research. In order to illustrate the special features of market selection in retailing, we have used an innovative approach. Following a review of general theoretical perspectives, a case study of the Metro Group addresses the process used, inter-country selection and country-specific selection, and also shows the role of corporate principles and firms' situational factors. Based on existing literature and the case study information, we propose a strategic approach in modelling country selection processes. Three steps in the construction of a selection model are discussed and related to corporate principles and situational factors of a retail firm. Significant attention has been paid to how real options analysis can help in valuing operating flexibility when making major capital investment decisions. But there has been far less study of how to manage such flexibility, particularly in cases where a decision to defer, contract, or expand any one investment program affects a range of other programs, including those outside the firm. Such interrelated investments are increasingly common in a "connected" economy where products and technologies are designed across firms and industries.
Based on a field study at Intel, this paper describes and analyzes one set of practices for coordinating such diverse systems of investments. It shows how information about interrelated investments is communicated within and between companies so that coherent changes can be made at the level of an overall system. The authors argue that studies of investment appraisal need to move beyond the predominant focus on valuation to encompass the wider organizational processes by which operational flexibility is exercised in the modern economy. 相似文献

This paper uses a sample of daily returns data from the Paris Bourse to test the predictions of and adjustment procedures implied by the Cohen-Hawawini-Maier-Schwartz-Whitcomb (1983a,b) model of the intervalling effect bias in OLS beta estimates. CHMSW show that the bias diminishes asymptotically to zero as the differencing interval increases and that the sign of the bias depends on a stock's relative value of shares outstanding. We employ the three-pass regression procedure of CHMSW (1983b), but we test a broader set of second pass functional forms and use the Box-Cox (1964) transformation model to verify our chosen form. The CHMSW adjustment procedures are compared with that of Scholes-Williams (1977), and the latter is shown to contain a significant intervalling effect bias. 相似文献
