The use of information technologies between supply chain organizations has been shown to promote organizational coordination and have a positive impact on performance. Drawing from organizational theories of learning, we build on this research by proposing a model that relates the pattern of supplier use of IT to specific types of supply chain coordination activities and a comprehensive set of organizational benefits. Specifically, we evaluate how two patterns of IT use by suppliers (exploitation and exploration) relate to two specific types of coordination activities with their buyers (operational and strategic coordination), which in turn are posited to promote specific organizational benefits. Using data from 241 first-tier OEM suppliers in the computer industry, our findings show that each pattern of IT use directly promotes a specific type of coordination activity. Although both types of coordination activities are needed to achieve both strategic and operational benefits, we find each coordination activity to be uniquely promoted by a specific pattern of IT use. IT use for exploitation is found to be an antecedent to operational coordination; IT use for exploration is found to be an antecedent to strategic coordination. No crossover between pattern of use and coordination activities is found. Our findings show that to achieve a complete set of benefits, suppliers must ultimately use IT for both exploration and exploitation. These findings provide a deeper understanding of the mechanism of how the pattern of IT use can result in a comprehensive set of organizational benefits for supplier firms.  相似文献

Abstract

Previous studies have investigated the relationship between the Five-Factor model of personality and creativity. As this model has been criticised for providing a limited account of an individual’s personality, this study considers additional personality traits that have recently been investigated in the literature as determinants of employee behaviour. Moreover, we also contribute to the existing body of literature by conducting this study in a service setting, for which we predict personality traits will exert differentiated effects on creativity when compared to other settings. Finally, while past research has focused on linear effects, this study examines the existence of non-linear effects between personality and creativity. The results indicate that personality traits apart from the Five-Factor model have an impact on creativity and that the effects of several personality traits on the creativity of frontline service employees differ from those obtained in other settings. Lastly, the findings also show that five of the personality traits have non-linear effects on creativity, and this may be a stimulus for a new stream of research in the human resources literature.  相似文献

Affirmative action is defined as the steps taken to end the absence in jobs, schools, and honored positions of members of groups that have been subordinated. Its purpose is to reduce discrimination, to reduce income disparities between groups, and to promote diversity by gender and race in every role and activity. The persistence of occupational segregation by sex and race to a degree that cannot be explained by differences in qualifications or voluntary behavior testifies to the need for further action. Alternatives to affirmative action, such as helping people regardless of race or sex from disadvantaged backgrounds, “just enforcing the law against discrimination”, or waiting for educational improvements to bring groups better qualifications would not do the job affirmative action is designed to do.  相似文献

This article describes a project that has been initiated by the Western Australian Institute of Technology, where worksite health appraisals and stress management programs are conducted. The justification for these programs and a conceptual framework of the types of programs are provided. WAIT has conducted over 350 health assessments and has run nine worksite stress management programs in the first year of the “Healthworks” project. The organization and details of these programs are described, and questions which managers need to consider before introducing worksite health programs and new initiatives associated with the project, are also covered.  相似文献

There are several factors that affect a firm's ability to successfully integrate internally and externally for organizational improvement. This study seeks to understand the relationship between a firm's strategy, its supply chain integration efforts, and firm performance. Leveraging the theoretical lens of structure–conduct–performance from the industrial organization economics literature, and utilizing both archival and survey data, we describe how firms may align their internal and external supply chain integration strategies with customers and suppliers. In doing so, these internal and external integration strategies affect the firm's ability to respond to customer demand, which then impacts operational and financial performance. Our work provides theoretical and empirical evidence of these relationships and thus extends prior strategic supply chain integration literature.  相似文献

Government regulations, competitive pressures, and public opinion have forced firms to reexamine their residual disposal activities. Properly implemented, disposal programs offer the advantages of lower costs and opportunities for strategic partnerships with raw material suppliers. Responsibility for this activity is usually given to the procurement function, forcing supply managers to develop knowledge of environmental legislation, scrap markets, and disposal outlets. This article presents research about plant disposal practices, focusing on a single residual—ferrous scrap. This study explored factors that influenced scrap disposal strategies and found that volume played a dominant role. The volume-based strategies identified differed with respect to how plants structured relationships with intermediaries, resulting in a range of generator-processor dependency levels. In addition to volume, a range of both internal and external factors were found to influence plant disposal requirements. Ultimately, the development of appropriate disposition strategies required an understanding of total disposal costs. A conceptual framework is developed, highlighting the complexities associated with implementing effective and efficient disposal programs.  相似文献
