办学特色是高职教育发展的内在需求，对培养符合社会经济发展需要的人才起着重要的支撑作用。世界发达国家或地区高职教育起步早，办学特色鲜明，对我国高职教育办学特色的形成具有重要的借鉴意义。高职院校应基于对德国、美国、澳大利亚、新加坡的高职教育办学特色的比较研究，力求获得创建我国高职教育特色的有益启示。     

How can new ventures command a price premium with innovations in emerging markets?

Successful financing is critical for new ventures' survival and future sustainable growth. With the unique institutional characteristics, it is especially difficult for new ventures in emerging economies to transform innovation capital into favorable investor responses (such as willingness-to-pay, WTP) during the process of initial public offerings (IPOs). Based on the patent records from a unique sample of Chinese firms, we demonstrate that new ventures can successfully leverage innovation for higher WTP in IPOs contingent on the existence of venture capital ownership and reputable underwriter endorsements. These financial intermediates can send inside-out and outside-in signals to market investors to reduce information asymmetry. Our study contributes to research on the valuation of innovations in IPOs. We also provide practical implications to managers and investors of new ventures. We provide implication to managers and investors of new ventures on how to increase the benefits from innovations, which fosters national economic growth and social welfare.

The efficiency of government promotion of inbound tourism: The case of Australia

This paper examines the effect of tax-funded promotion of inbound tourism on domestic welfare in an open economy setting with increasing returns in the tourism industry. As inbound tourism is a way of extending the market and getting more demand to realize the implication of increasing returns, promotion can help overcome the underproduction of tourism goods. However, taxation leads to a decline in domestic residents' consumption of tourism and non-tourism goods and reduces the competitiveness of the non-tourism industry in the host country. An important result obtained is that government promotion of inbound tourism will not improve welfare unless the degree of increasing returns in the tourism industry is high enough and the national income of the foreign country multiplied by the parameter of marketing effectiveness is larger than the national income of the home country. This finding is supported by a simulation with the case of Australia.
