The main purpose of this paper is to provide additional evidence about the effect of discretionary current accruals on the pricing of IPOs. This paper seeks to discriminate between two alternative explanations for the prior findings: (1) behavioral biases coupled with limited arbitrage; and (2) the sample- and period-specific nature of the results in the prior literature. The IPOs from 1962 to 1998 were used to obtain the following results. First, there was not a negative association observed between discretionary current accruals and subsequent price performance for the 1926–1971 period. Second, analysis reveals that the pattern of cross-sectional evidence is inconsistent with the predictions made by behavioral theories. Third, in the 1972–1998 period, evidence of predictable negative performance attributable to IPO discretionary current accruals is limited to NASDAQ firms. These findings are difficult to reconcile with the explanation of behavioral biases coupled with limited arbitrage.  相似文献

Market surveillance systems have increasingly gained in usage for monitoring trading activities in stock markets to maintain market integrity. Existing systems primarily focus on the numerical analysis of market activity data and generally ignore textual information. To fulfil the requirements of information-based surveillance, a multi-agent-based architecture that uses agent intercommunication and incremental learning mechanisms is proposed to provide a flexible and adaptive inspection process. A prototype system is implemented using the techniques of text mining and rule-based reasoning, among others. Based on experiments in the scalping surveillance scenario, the system can identify target information evidence up to 87.50% of the time and automatically identify 70.59% of cases depending on the constraints on the available information sources. The results of this study indicate that the proposed information surveillance system is effective. This study thus contributes to the market surveillance literature and has significant practical implications.  相似文献

This article presents discussions on the optimal and robust designs for trigonometric regression models under different optimality criteria. First, we investigate the classical Q-optimal designs for estimating the response function in a full trigonometric regression model with a given order. The equivalencies of Q-, A-, and G-optimal designs for trigonometric regression in general are also articulated. Second, we study minimax designs and their implementation in the case of trigonometric approximation under Q-, A-, and D-optimality. Then, We indicate the existence of the symmetric designs that are D-optimal minimax designs for general trigonometric regression models, and prove the existence of the symmetric designs that are Q- or A-optimal minimax designs for two particular trigonometric regression models under certain conditions.  相似文献

Previous studies demonstrate the detrimental effect of ethical conflict (i.e., incompatibility between ethical values of employees and organizations) on employee organizational commitment. However, few studies have assessed the underlying mechanisms and boundary conditions that may contribute to a deeper understanding of how and when the detrimental effect manifests. Drawing on the transactional model of stress and literature on the moral self, our study examines the psychological strain as a key intermediate mechanism that channels the negative relationship between the ethical conflict and organizational commitment. Furthermore, we posit that employees with different levels of moral identity and moral efficacy may suffer differently from ethical conflict. We tested our research model with two-wave lagged data obtained from 265 healthcare employees and found that the indirect, negative effect of ethical conflict on organizational commitment via psychological strain is strongest among employees with high moral identity and low moral efficacy. Interestingly, results show that employees with low moral identity and high moral efficacy do not suffer from ethical conflict. These findings suggest that ethical conflict is differentially harmful to employees and that a more nuanced understanding of its contingent effects is needed.  相似文献

Traditional internationalization models suggest multinational companies (MNCs) can exploit their accumulative experience to facilitate their sequential entries. However, experience may depreciate over time. Thus, obtaining benefits from prior experience for MNCs is based on two critical premises, i.e., interpreting and applying experience correctly. We argue that there is a need to study the newness dimension of experiential learning. In doing so, we aim to explore to what extent the newness of experience matters in overseas sequential entries for MNCs. Moreover, we expect that the benefits from recent experience in guiding sequential entries are contingent on the extent of context similarity between the most recent entry location and sequential entry location and the outcome expectancy of focal entry. With a sample of 112 Chinese listed firms and 410 observations during the period of 2000–2012, we find that else being equal, the newness of experience of MNCs is positively associated with sequential entry and such a relationship is positively moderated both by context similarity in institutional environment and the outcome expectancy of the focal entry. We also compare the effects of the newness of different types of experience and find that the newness of the most recent experience has a larger influence on sequential entry than location-specific experience and general experience.  相似文献
