Developing a brand icon has been a way for marketers to humanize and forge relationships with consumers. Icon development takes time. During this time, marketers have to face how much they stay true and consistent with their icons and how much they allow their icons to adapt to cultural changes in the marketplace. Little is known about how consumers respond to changing icons, and even less is known about whether there may be certain consumer groups that are more or less receptive to such changes. Four experiments and qualitative interviews were undertaken to gain insights into these issues. People who have a low need to belong were most impacted by changes in the icon, with effects most evident among consumers with a fearful attachment style. Feelings of rejection were found to amplify these effects. These findings have implications both for theory and practice. 相似文献

Aligning employees with the firm's larger strategic goals is critical if organizations hope to manage their human capital effectively and ultimately attain strategic success. An important component of attaining and sustaining this alignment is for employees to have a “line of sight” (LOS) with their organization's strategic objectives. In this article, we illustrate how the translation of calculated firm goals into tangible results requires that employees not only understand the organization's strategy, but also accurately appreciate what actions are aligned with realizing that strategy. Using recent empirical evidence, theoretical insights, and tangible examples of exemplary firm practices, we provide thought-leaders with a comprehensive view of LOS by showing how it can be created, how it can be enhanced or stifled, and how it can be effectively managed. On one hand, Chinese consumers are well known for conspicuous consumption and the adoption of luxury products and named brands.
On the other hand, they also have a bad reputation for buying counterfeit products. Their simultaneous preferences for two
contrasting types of product present a paradox that has not been addressed in the literature. This study attempts to present
an explanation of this paradox by examining the effects of traditional Chinese cultural values and consumer values on consumers’
deontological judgment of pirated CDs and the amount of social benefits they perceive they gain from them. We interviewed
300 Hong Kong Chinese consumers, and found that face consciousness increased materialism and risk aversion, thereby producing
a favorable deontological judgment of pirated CDs. Face consciousness also has a direct effect on the amount of social benefits
perceived in pirated CDs. Both favorable deontological judgment and perceived social benefits contributed to a strong intention

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) continues to gain attention atop the corporate agenda and is by now an important component
of the dialogue between companies and their stakeholders. Nevertheless, there is still little guidance as to how companies
can implement CSR activity in order to maximize returns to CSR investment. Theorists have identified many company-favoring
outcomes of CSR; yet there is a dearth of research on the psychological mechanisms that drive stakeholder responses to CSR
activity. Borrowing from the literatures on means-end chains and relationship marketing, we propose a conceptual model that
explains how CSR provides individual stakeholders with numerous benefits (functional, psychosocial, and values) and how the
type and extent to which a stakeholder derives these benefits from CSR initiatives influences the quality of the relationship
between the stakeholder and the company. The paper discusses the implications of these␣insights and highlights a number of

The existing literature suggests that uniformity versus flexibility is a key dimension of differentiation in cross-national financial reporting practices. However, the issue of what drives attitudes towards uniformity has not been explored. Drawing upon a variety of existing studies, this study explores the attitudes of Big 6 auditors in 23 countries towards rules mandating a single treatment across 14 issues. The study finds that auditors are in favor of a single mandated treatment in the majority of cases and that support for such rules is affected by both culture and the importance of the domestic stock market to the country. These results hold true even after the influence of extant practice or the level of uniformity of current practice is controlled for. Relatively higher levels of uniformity in de facto financial reporting practices and relatively stronger support for increased uniformity were both found in many of those countries which are traditionally thought of as having more flexible financial accounting systems. 相似文献

The spread between the rates on commercial paper and Treasury bills has received considerable attention in the literature for its role as an indicator of real economic activity. In this paper we empirically examine what happens when the volatility of the spread changes over time. We estimate a nonlinear model that enables us to discern the asymmetric impact of negative and positive shocks to the spread. The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has issued a revised “Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants” (IFAC Code). The IFAC Code is intended to be a model code of ethics for national accounting organizations throughout the world. Prior research demonstrates that approximately 50% of IFAC member organizations have adopted the IFAC Code as their organizational code of conduct. There is therefore empirical evidence that international convergence of accounting ethical standards is occurring. We employ Hofstede’s (2008, http://www.geert-hofstede.com/hofstede_dimensions.php) cultural dimensions in an attempt to empirically explain accounting organizations’ decisions about whether to adopt the IFAC Code or to retain their organization-specific code. Our results indicate that accounting organizations in cultures with high levels of Individualism and Uncertainty Avoidance are less likely to adopt the model IFAC Code. Organizations in high Individualism and Uncertainty Avoidance societies are therefore less likely to surrender the setting of ethical standards to an outside, international organization. 相似文献
