In today's volatile economy, innovation in providing interactive services to consumers through a variety of channels is critical in retailing. Interactive service innovations offer opportunities for retailers by creating new markets or offering new benefits in existing markets. They also pose threats as existing customers encounter new alternatives offered by competitors. This article explores some of the most promising opportunities in interactive retail services; namely, the increasing power of consumers, channel synergies, pre- and post-transaction service, optimal use of resources, and consumer heterogeneity. In discussing these areas of opportunity we identify knowledge gaps and suggest research questions relevant to these gaps that warrant attention. While there is great enthusiasm and interest by social marketers for games as a social marketing intervention, there is little evidence of the impact of these games. This research seeks to fill this gap by testing a theoretical model based on the experiential hierarchy of effects. An online game about the physiological effects of drinking was designed for high-school students and implemented in an educational curriculum with 223 participants (96% response rate) completing an online survey. The data was analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) and showed support for nine of the eleven hypotheses. The results show game characteristics of enjoyment (feel), knowledge (learn), and challenge (do) significantly related to attitudes and moderate-drinking behavioral intentions, ability to control drinking, and awareness of the physical consequences of drinking. Climate change represents an unavoidable and growing challenge to food security, imposing new adaptation imperatives on all farmers. Maize is arguably the world's most productive grain crop, as measured by grain yield. However, maize yields vary dramatically due to many factors, including soils, climate, pests, disease, agronomic practices, and seed quality. The difference between observed yields and those achievable by optimized crop production methods is called the yield gap. In this work we quantified the current yield gap for 44 countries through the use of a large private-sector data set recently made available to the crop modelling community. The yield gap was quantified for three groups of countries, categorized by level of intensification. Observed yield gaps for high, medium, and low levels of intensification are 23%, 46%, and 68%, respectively. If all maize production countries were able to shrink their yield gap to 16.5% (as in the USA) an additional 335?million metric tons (MMT) of maize grain would be produced. This represents a 45% increase over the 741?MMT produced by these countries in 2010. These data demonstrate that a major untapped maize yield opportunity exists, especially in those countries where intensification has not kept pace with the rest of the world. 相似文献

AbstractAims: To assess the real-world clinical burden and healthcare resource utilization (HRU) among patients with chronic hypoparathyroidism, overall and by adequately controlled (AC) vs not adequately controlled (NAC) disease, informed by guideline-recommended clinical management targets, including biochemistry and symptoms.Materials and methods: In this retrospective online chart review, endocrinologists in the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain were randomly selected to review the medical charts of adult patients with chronic hypoparathyroidism receiving calcium and activated vitamin D. Patients’ demographics, disease characteristics, symptoms, comorbidities, and hypoparathyroidism-related HRU during the 1 year before the review date were assessed. Clinical burden and HRU were compared between patients with NAC and AC hypoparathyroidism.Results: Of 614 patients with hypoparathyroidism (AC, N?=?442; NAC, N?=?172), the mean age was 43.6?years, and the majority were female (61.6%), Caucasian (78.8%), and had post-surgical hypoparathyroidism (74.4%). Mean duration of hypoparathyroidism was 46.0?months. Hypoparathyroidism-related symptoms and comorbidities were reported in 59.4% and 46.7% of patients, respectively; 90.7% of patients had ≥1 hypoparathyroidism-related HRU event. More patients with NAC (57.6%) vs AC (42.5%) hypoparathyroidism experienced ≥1 comorbidity including calcium/phosphate imbalances, and brain, cardiovascular, metabolic, and renal disorders (all p?<?0.01). More patients with NAC vs AC hypoparathyroidism incurred ≥1 hypoparathyroidism-related hospitalization (27.9% vs 16.3%) and emergency room visits (47.7% vs 38.5%), and patients with NAC vs AC hypoparathyroidism had a higher number of outpatient visits (3.6 vs 2.6; all p?<?0.05), in the 1-year observation period.Limitations and conclusions: Limitations of this online chart review include possible under-estimation of disease burden, limited sample size, and the inability to rule out selection bias. Findings indicate that patients with chronic hypoparathyroidism experience substantial symptomatic and comorbid burdens resulting in frequent HRU, suggesting an unmet need, particularly in NAC disease. 相似文献

While a substantial literature has examined the causes of mortgage foreclosure, there has been relatively little work on the consequences of foreclosure for the borrowers themselves. Using a large sample of anonymous credit bureau records, observed quarterly from 1999 through 2010, we examine the credit experiences of 330,000 borrowers before and after a foreclosure start. Our analysis documents the substantial declines in credit scores that accompany a foreclosure start and examines the length of time it takes individuals to return their credit scores to predelinquency levels. The results suggest that, particularly for prime borrowers, credit score recovery comes slowly, if at all. The lack of recovery appears to be driven by persistently higher delinquency rates on consumer credit (such as auto and credit card loans) in the years that follow their foreclosure start. Our results also indicate that the experiences of individuals whose mortgages entered foreclosure from 2007 to 2009 have followed a similar path to borrowers foreclosed earlier in the decade, though their postforeclosure‐start delinquency rates have been higher and, consequently, credit score recovery appears to be taking longer. 相似文献

The aim of this research was to examine the influence of a UK national retailer on its customers' food waste behaviour. Using six communication channels (in‐store magazine, e‐newsletter, Facebook site, product stickers and in‐store demonstrations), Asda presented standard food waste reduction messages to its customers during two time limited periods in 2014 and 2015. Six national surveys over 21 months tracked customers' self‐reported food waste. Our results showed that the combined communication channels and repeated messages over time had a significant effect on reducing food waste of customers. Surprisingly, customers who said they did not recall seeing the messages also reduced their food waste, showing the wider influence of interventions. Those who saw a food waste reduction message saved an estimated £81 annually from reducing food waste. The main conclusion of this paper is that retailers can influence the pro‐environmental behaviour of customers using conventional communication channels; however, repeat messages are needed in order to have a long‐term impact. © 2017 The Authors. Abstract Higher fees for publicly provided outdoor recreation facilities have the potential of forcing low‐income users to reduce their use of the facilities more than for higher income users. Some low‐income users may be forced to stop using the facilities altogether. However, to our knowledge, no studies have been designed specifically to test for the presence of this type of discriminatory impact among current users. In this article we present an approach for determining whether higher fees create a discriminatory impact on low‐income users. An empirical application of the approach suggests that a discriminatory impact does exist among the users of Maine state park campgrounds. 相似文献
