Terms, such as “out-of-stock,” “sold out,” and “unavailable” are commonly used by retailers to communicate a product or brand outage. Although these terms are technically equivalent, prior research on product outage and product scarcity suggest that they may be interpreted and processed differently by consumers. The present research investigated whether the manner in which a product outage was framed elicited different consumer behavioral intentions, attributions, and perceptions in the context of online retailing. Data were collected by means of an online experiment. The experiment incorporated a hypothetical scenario approach in which research participants were asked to react to a particular combination of treatment and blocking factors. Results demonstrated that ceteris paribus, framing a product or brand outage as “sold out” produces fewer negative product and website reactions than does framing it as “out-of-stock” or “unavailable.”  相似文献

To source external knowledge, firms in the service area use various sourcing modes simultaneously suitable for their internal needs or external environments. Each external knowledge sourcing mode has distinctive characteristics, and as such, they can offer different advantages and/or disadvantages to the firms. Thus, the effects of external knowledge sourcing on service innovation may vary depending on the sourcing modes. The current study aims to empirically examine the different effects of various external knowledge sourcing modes on service innovation. The study identifies three external knowledge sourcing modes: joint development, technology purchasing, and external information acquisition. Three hypotheses are established to examine the relationships between the extent of utilizing each mode and service innovation performance in terms of new service introduction. The data for analysis are selected from the “Korean Innovation Survey 2006: Service Sector” (KIS 2006). It is regarded as South Korea's version of the Community Innovation Survey (CIS). The KIS 2006 data set covers joint development, technology purchasing, and external information acquisition activities of corporations in the service sector in South Korea. The study empirically analyzes the data set using a negative binomial regression model. The results first demonstrate that the extent of the joint development has an inverted U‐shaped relationship with the service innovation performance. Second, the results indicate that, on the other hand, service innovation performance decreases with the increase to the extent of the technology purchasing when the extent is below the threshold. On the other hand, it increases with the increase to the extent of the technology purchasing; this occurs when the extent exceeds the threshold. Third, the results show that external information acquisition has a positive effect on service innovation performance. These findings support that the extent of utilizing each mode has different relationships with service innovation performance. The findings suggest that service firms need to utilize joint development at a moderate level, active technology purchasing, and as much external information acquisition as possible to maximize service innovation performance. In practice, this finding can help managers of service firms select appropriate external knowledge sourcing modes and determine the optimum level of use for each mode. This study also can help firms build up strategies for external knowledge sourcing.  相似文献

This paper studies the problem of an uninformed decision maker who acquires expert advice prior to making a decision. I show that it is less costly to hire partisan agents than impartial agents, especially under advocacy, and that the decision maker prefers partisan advocacy to other forms of institutions. I also extend the literature, originating with Dewatripont and Tirole ( 1999 ), to a setting with contracts that condition on information provided and not just the decision made.  相似文献

We perform event analysis on particular episodes of tension in the Korean peninsula between 2000 and 2008, and investigate the effect of the events on South Korean financial markets (stock markets, bond yield spreads and the exchange rate) given that South Korea would be the first affected by a military aggression from North Korea. Surprisingly, in nearly all cases, these events, which have often been dramatized in the world media, have no significant impact on either of these variables or only a very small one. We also find no significant impact of events on listed firms that would a priori be likely to suffer from increased tension between the two Koreas. Since financial markets often contain better predictions than expert opinions or surveys, these results strongly suggest that the North Korean threat is non‐credible.  相似文献

There are an increasing number of companies in the mining and metals sector disclosing environmental sustainability information in their annual reports, sustainability reports and corporate internet web pages. However, there is ongoing debate about the relationship between the quantity and the quality of environmental disclosure. That is, does an increase in number equate to an increase in quality? This study investigates the relationship between the quantity and the quality of environmental disclosure reports. Using content analysis, we examine the environmental disclosure of 55 Australian mining and metal companies which are listed among the Australian Securities Exchange's (ASX) Top 100 mining and metal sector companies. We find that the size of firms influences both the quantity and the quality of corporate environmental disclosure. That is, we find that market capitalization is positively and significantly correlated to the quantity (number of words) and the quality of disclosure. We also confirm that there is a very highly significant, positive correlation between quantity (number of words) and quality of environmental disclosure. In order to investigate any differences between the top performing group and the bottom performing group in terms of environmental disclosure quality, further analysis also confirms that there is a positive relationship between the quantity and the quality of environmental disclosure. Using data on corporate default experience in the U.S. and market rates of CDX index and tranche swaps of various maturities, we estimate reduced-form models of correlated default timing in the CDX High Yield and Investment Grade portfolios under actual and risk-neutral probabilities. The striking contrast between the estimated processes followed by the actual and risk-neutral arrival intensities of defaults, and between the parameters governing the actual and risk-neutral dynamics of the risk-neutral intensities, indicates the presence of substantial default risk premia in CDX swap market rates. The effects of risk premia on swap rates covary strongly across maturities, and depend on general stock market volatility and several measures of credit spreads. Large moves in the effects of these premia on swap rates have natural interpretations in terms of economic and financial market developments during the sample period, April 2004 to October 2007. Our results suggest that a large portion of the movements in CDX swap market rates observed during the sample period may be caused by changing attitudes toward correlated default risk rather than changes in the economic factors affecting the actual risk of clustered defaults, which ultimately governs swap payoffs.  相似文献

This research examines the effects of impression management on consumers’ coupon redemption and suggests different underlying mechanisms with respect to cultural self‐construal. Four studies show that, when primed with impression management, individualistic (vs. collectivistic) consumers are more likely to redeem coupons, because individualists believe that coupon redemption creates the impression of being smart. On the other hand, collectivistic consumers are less likely to redeem coupons when coupon usage is visible to others, because they believe that coupon redemption gives the impression of being cheap. These findings are explained within the context of cultural self‐construal and regulatory focus theory.  相似文献
