This paper reconsiders equilibrium existence in models with migration and voting over local public goods. We show that under some straightforward assumptions on preferences and income distributions, the basic structure of multicommunity models (i.e., perfect mobility, majority rule, single crossing property) implies that no equilibrium with jurisdictions conducting different policies can exist. Stratification equilibria—with sorting of the population according to income classes—are therefore not as natural as is sometimes suggested. Mechanisms that can serve to support stratification (i.e., tight housing markets, returns to scale in the provision of publicly consumed goods) are discussed. 相似文献

The history of the Frontiers in Service Conference and its impact on the service research community was examined by content analyzing each of the 20 conference programs. The results were aggregated and examined for trends regarding program participation on several characteristics, including author, institutional affiliation, country affiliation, and practitioner/academic relationship. Insights regarding the role of the Frontiers Conference in nurturing service knowledge, fostering multinational research collaboration, and bridging the practitioner–academic gap are offered. These findings show strong growth in collaboration across the first 20 years. A total of 57 countries are represented in the data with significant research collaboration across those countries. Also, many corporations are represented in the data, especially International Business Machines (IBM). The value of the Frontiers in Service Conference as a vehicle for encouraging collaboration between service scholars and practitioners globally and for bridging the practitioner–academic gap is established. 相似文献

This paper investigates whether IPO signals reveal proprietary information about the prospects of an issuing firm’s underlying
industry. By analyzing a sample of European property company (EPC) IPOs from 1997 to 2007, we take advantage of a heterogeneous
set of industry performance measures, i.e., yields and total returns of direct property investments in various European property
markets that can be clearly assigned to each individual IPO. The results reveal that the main signal of interest, underpricing,
is in fact positively related to average property yields for a 12-month post-IPO period; a result that supports our assumption.
Other signals, as proposed in previous research, do not appear to contain any information about the prospects of the IPO firm’s
target property investment market. We also show that total returns seem to be a biased measure for direct property performance.
Further tests for the signaling model’s preconditioned presence of information asymmetry among EPCs reveal that underpricing
levels are a function of company-specific ex ante uncertainty proxies. In contrast, property-specific ex ante uncertainty

We use ARCH time series models to derive model based prediction intervals for the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark up to 2050. For the short term (5–10 yrs), expected TFR‐errors are compared with empirical forecast errors observed in historical population forecasts prepared by the statistical agencies in these countries since 1969. Medium‐term and long‐term (up to 50 years) errors are compared with error patterns based on so‐called naïve forecasts, i.e. forecasts that assume that recently observed TFR‐levels also apply for the future. 相似文献

The research presents a case study about the way that women make decisions about colour and dress prior to, and after a visit to an image consultancy, Colour Me Beautiful. It specifically asks to what extent women feel they have benefited from such a consultation in relation to the fashion system and the experience of shopping. The first section argues that the interviewees, prior to a consultation, had adopted a narrow and restricted mode of decision‐making in relation to clothes and colour due to a variety of social and personal reasons. The second section explores the processes by which the majority of interviewees began to gain confidence and a renewed interest in selecting clothes after a colour consultation. Such a ‘technology of the self’ enabled the respondents to ‘play’ with the fashion system, in a way that they had not felt able to do before. The popular media has repeatedly pointed to pride as one of the key factors motivating leaders to behave unethically. However, given the devastating consequences that leader unethical behavior may have, a more scientific account of the role of pride is warranted. The present study differentiates between authentic and hubristic pride and assesses its impact on leader ethical behavior, while taking into consideration the extent to which leaders find it important to their self-concept to be a moral person. In two experiments we found that with higher levels of moral identity, authentically proud leaders are more likely to engage in ethical behavior than hubristically proud leaders, and that this effect is mediated by leaders’ motivation to act selflessly. A field survey among organizational leaders corroborated that moral identity may bring the positive effect of authentic pride and the negative effect of hubristic pride on leader ethical behavior to the forefront. 相似文献
