This article attempts to (1) explore the process by which a high-performance work system (HPWS) affects firm performance and (2) demonstrate the mediating role of implementation and organizational culture in the HPWS-performance link. The proposed model was tested using a sample of 243 Hong Kong and Taiwanese firms operating in Guangdong, China. The results from the present study supported the hypothesized mediation of implementation and organizational culture on the HR–performance relationship. This study offers important insights into the mediating mechanism of the HPWS-performance research. Implications for research and managerial practices are provided. 相似文献

This study explored the state of human resource (HR) outsourcing in the Asian context, a particularly important subject given its rapid proliferation in Europe and North America, the inconsistent and limited evidence from prior research, and its strategic importance to the human resource management (HRM) function. Drawing on both quantitative and qualitative data and the transaction cost, resource-based, and institutional perspectives, we found that although respondents were generally favourable towards outsourcing, that in practice its adoption and diffusion were in a nascent stage in Hong Kong. Decisions to outsource were, by and large, incremental and experimental and influenced by a range of contextual factors (e.g., availability of in-house expertise, skills and creativity, strategic priorities, legislation (coercive), availability of external service providers, and industry and peer (mimetic) influence). Despite considerable pressure to cut costs, instead of outsourcing in the first instance, firms placed greater emphasis on maximising internal resource utilization (insourcing). This paper addresses issues raised in ‘The Background of China's Planning Institutional Reform’ circulated in advance of the International Conference on China's Planning System Reform, held on 24–25 March 2004 in Beijing. The discussion is structured around four topics: (1) the scope of planning; (2) the administration of the planning system; (3) methods of planning; and (4) the coordination of planning with market activities. A critical issue is whether the Chinese government is doing too much or too little in planning the broad range of activities in a market economy, and various policy options are examined in relation to this issue. A central conclusion is that as China's economic and political system evolves within the framework of the Five-Year Plan, the scope of planning will naturally reduce as the market sector replaces a number of activities formerly undertaken by government. 相似文献

On one hand, Chinese consumers are well known for conspicuous consumption and the adoption of luxury products and named brands.
On the other hand, they also have a bad reputation for buying counterfeit products. Their simultaneous preferences for two
contrasting types of product present a paradox that has not been addressed in the literature. This study attempts to present
an explanation of this paradox by examining the effects of traditional Chinese cultural values and consumer values on consumers’
deontological judgment of pirated CDs and the amount of social benefits they perceive they gain from them. We interviewed
300 Hong Kong Chinese consumers, and found that face consciousness increased materialism and risk aversion, thereby producing
a favorable deontological judgment of pirated CDs. Face consciousness also has a direct effect on the amount of social benefits
perceived in pirated CDs. Both favorable deontological judgment and perceived social benefits contributed to a strong intention

This paper examines the effects of environmental factors on the ethical behavior of managers using computers at work in Mainland
China. In this study, environmental factors refer to senior management, peer groups, company policies, professional practices,
and legal considerations. Ethical behaviors include attitudes to disclosure, protection of privacy, conflict of interest,
personal conduct, social responsibility, and integrity. A questionnaire survey was used for data collection, and 125 mainland
Chinese managers participated in the study. The results show that peer groups, professional practices, and legal considerations
do influence the ethical behavior of mainland Chinese managers in the areas of social responsibility, integrity, and accountability.

[目的]通过对我国北方地区大规模生猪养殖技术效率进行测度,以期发现影响其技术效率增长的主要因素,为我国现阶段生猪养殖业战略性区划调整"南猪北进"工作提供实践指导和理论支持。[方法]根据随机前沿分析方法 (SFA)基本原理,运用对数型柯布—道格拉斯生产函数及我国北方大规模生猪养殖数据构建中国北方大规模生猪养殖随机前沿分析模型,对我国北方大规模生猪养殖技术效率进行测度并据此提出相关建议。[结果]北方地区大规模生猪养殖技术效率值纵向上来看整体在不断下降,而从地域上来看内蒙古自治区和东北地区技术效率值较高,北京与西北地区技术效率值较低。[结论]内蒙古自治区与东北地区适宜作为大规模生猪养殖承载地,与国家政策具有一致性;华北地区与西北地区大规模生猪养殖技术效率测度值较低,存在较大改进空间;针对该现状提出构建经济效益与环境保护并重的规模生态生猪养殖体系。 相似文献

Building on the conservation of resources theory, we posit that leader–member exchange (LMX) serves as a valued resource to reduce followers’ job burnout. Informed by the theoretical arguments of reference group theory and norm of equality, we further propose two sets of competing hypotheses to test whether LMX differentiation within teams enhances or dampens the effect of LMX on relieving job burnout. Using a sample of 288 travel agents in Hong Kong, we find a negative relationship between LMX and emotional exhaustion. In support of the prediction of norm of equality, the results show that the negative relationships between LMX and emotional exhaustion and between LMX and diminished sense of personal accomplishment were stronger when LMX differentiation was low. Implications for theory and managerial practice and future research directions are discussed. 相似文献
