Several authors have introduced different ways to measure integration between financial markets. Most of them are derived from the basic assumptions about asset prices, like the Law of One Price or the absence of arbitrage opportunities. Two perfectly integrated markets must give identical prices to identical final payoffs, and a vector of positive discount factors, common to both markets, must exist. If these properties do not hold, the degree to which they are violated can be defined and considered as a measure of integration. The present paper empirically tests integration measures in the Spanish financial markets. Furthermore, the integration measures are operationalized to analyze the presence of cross‐market arbitrage without previously specifying the exact nature of the arbitrage strategy to be used. When the absence of arbitrage holds, several interesting variables are obtained, for instance, state prices or risk‐neutral probabilities. When this absence fails, explicit cross‐market arbitrage portfolios are provided. The results of the test yield some evidence about market efficiency and integration outside the United States, and they are surprising for several reasons. First of all, arbitrage opportunities do sometimes appear, and the bid–ask spread and transaction costs seem to be unable to prevent arbitrage profits. Furthermore, the criticisms that are usually raised when empirical papers show the existence of arbitrage opportunities do not apply here because we work with perfectly synchronized high frequency data. On the other hand, different integration measures show a similar evolution along the tested period, although these measures give different information about the markets’ efficiency and integration, and they do not necessarily have to be related. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A productive human capital is a necessary but not sufficient condition for regional economic growth. An additional condition is the adequate allocation of talented people in innovative entrepreneurial activities, which according to previous literature have a higher social value than traditional ones. Using a large and representative sample of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) located in the Basque Autonomous Community (Spain), we empirically analyze, separately in manufacture and services, whether individual incentives and market conditions are aligned in such a way that the talent is properly allocated in innovative entrepreneurial activities. Through a novel use of existing empirical methods we find that (i) entrepreneurs operating in high-tech sectors have, on average, more entrepreneurial talent and private returns than their counterparts; and that (ii) entrepreneurial talent and private returns are positively and significantly correlated. These novel insights suggest that private and social incentives are adequately aligned.  相似文献

This article analyzes the role of quality management in the internalization of environmental practices. A qualitative study based on interviews with 35 practitioners was conducted in three African countries (Cameroon, Senegal, and Ivory Coast). The results highlight the contrasting roles played by the main reference model for quality management—International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001—in the internalization of the international standard for corporate environmental management—ISO 14001—with positive points related to formal and documentary aspects and perverse effects such as increased bureaucracy and a focus on quality at the expense of the environment. The results also point to four configurations of integration of environmental practices according to the level of quality management internalization and the level of institutional pressure to adopt corporate environmental management: poor integration, partial integration, substantial integration, and sustainable integration.  相似文献

The knowledge spillover theory of entrepreneurship (KSTE) has recently emerged as an influential research stream that examines the origin, development and economic impact of innovation-driven entrepreneurship. While empirical evidence has shown that the main premise of the KSTE generally holds in most advanced economies, the purpose of the present study is to investigate the extent to which the ideas advocated by the KSTE are generalizable to different contexts in developing countries. On applying a logistic multilevel analysis to a sample of almost 250,000 individuals across 45 developing countries, the results show that the different context found in developing economies produces a limited connection between knowledge spillovers, innovation and entrepreneurship in comparison with the conventional linkage studied in the KSTE literature.  相似文献

This paper provides an input–output method to estimate worldwide economic impacts generated by supply chain disruptions. The method is used to analyse global economic effects due to the disruptions in the automotive industry that followed the Japanese earthquake and the consequent tsunami and nuclear crisis of March 2011. By combining a mixed multi-regional input–output model, the World Input–Output Database and data at the factory level, the study quantifies the economic impacts of the disruptions broken down by country and industry. The results show that the global economic effect (in terms of value added) of this disruption amounted to US$139 billion. The most affected (groups of) countries were Japan (39%), the USA (25%), China (8%) and the European Union (7%). The most strongly affected industries were transport equipment (37%), other business activities (10%), basic and fabricated metals (8%), wholesale trade (7%) and financial intermediation (4%).  相似文献

This paper presents an empirical examination of the role of employee involvement in the internalization of corporate biodiversity management. A qualitative study in natural resource companies was conducted, based on semi‐directive interviews with managers, consultants, and experts in this area. The findings show that employee involvement is essential to improve biodiversity practices in natural resource companies, which largely rely on organizational citizenship behaviors for the environment. The role of tacit knowledge, voluntary initiatives, and prevention of harmful behaviors in the workplace are highlighted. The main obstacles to the internalization of biodiversity issues include their complexity, the lack of corporate commitment, the externalization of initiatives, and the lack of training for employees. The contributions to the literature on corporate environmental management, internalization of new practices, and organizational citizenship behaviors for the environment are explained. Managerial implications and avenues for future research are also provided.  相似文献

This paper examines a specific, yet unexplored, dimension of human capital; namely, intrapreneurial experience. Intrapreneurial experience is defined as a human capital attribute of employees who have a leading role in the development and implementation of re-generation activities within an organization under a proactive, innovative, and risk-oriented focus. The effect of individuals’ intrapreneurial experiences on firm creation from an organization (i.e., corporate venturing) is tested by using data collected from different countries. Using a binomial logistic regression analysis and data from the 2011 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), results show that intrapreneurial experience is positively associated with corporate venturing. Moreover, the effect on corporate venturing seems to be higher than that exerted by other human capital variables of employees.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze the optimal regulation policy when the regulated firm has better information concerning the market demand than the regulator. We show that introducing a cost on public funds into the Planner's objective function does not lead to qualitative results similar to those obtained by introducing distributional considerations. In particular we show that under constant marginal cost the full information policy is not implementable and that the optimal regulatory policy results in informational rents. The social value of private information and the firm's informational rents are both increasing functions of the cost of the public funds.  相似文献
